Alyssa was bored. And she was hungry. And she'd dressed up all nice, in her black high-waisted skirt, her white blouse and the lovely gold necklace Gardener had given her. But she felt it was all going to waste if she was just going to kill someone, eat and then get back home before the sun rose... it wouldn't even take all night so she'd be even more bored after she'd eaten.
Her fingers traced the locket, absently, opening and closing the clasp until she frowned at her self and put her hand behind her back. But she smiled. Gardener. Maybe he'd join her for a hunt and make her night more interesting. She immediately changed directions and headed for his hotel, charming her way through the door and up the stairs to his room.
She knocked politely on his door before smoothing out a crease on her skirt and clasping her hands behind her back. She did hope he wasn't otherwise occupied, that would be such a disappointment.

Ever since returning to his hotel room, Gardener had been sticking close to home. In all truthfulness, he probably should have cut his loses and gotten out of town. His reason to come to New York was to sell Alexis on his mission-and that had been a fail. But he couldn't just run now. Not after what had happened.
Gardener was collapsed across his bed, his eyes closed. He was restraining himself from running off to Alexis's apartment and ripping her head off. Laying still forced him focus on keeping his control. All good things came to those who waited supposedly. Gardener groaned. He really needed a distraction.
All of a sudden, there was a knock on the door. Gardener sat up, wondering who was paying him a visit. Of course, it could have been hotel staff. That would have been acceptable too. He could go for a meal.
Crossing to the door, Gardener pulled it open. He hoped it wasn't Alexis on the other side, and was extremely pleased to find Alyssa Scarani standing before him.
"Well, well, well, Miss Scarani. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

Alyssa smiled as the door opened and Gardener stood on the other side. Good, he was home, that was a good sign for her.
"Well, well, well, Miss Scarani. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Hello, Mr Wild," she greeted, looking him over. "I see you're doing much better than when we first met." She smoothed out another crease in her skirt. "I was hungry, and in need of company, and wondered if you would perhaps care to accompany me as I search for dinner? Unless you're busy of course," she added, peering passed him into his room.

Gardener chuckled lightly at her remark regarding his then and now conditions.
"Indeed. I haven't had a bit of bad luck since our meeting, and with your visit it seems it will only keep getting better."
He gave the woman a bright smile as he stepped back and motioned her into the hotel room.
"My dear, when a beautiful woman is involved, I am never busy. Just give me a few minutes to finish righting myself and we shall be off."
Gardener turned back into his room and crossed to the bed. Sitting down, he began to lace his black books onto his feet.

"Indeed. I haven't had a bit of bad luck since our meeting, and with your visit it seems it will only keep getting better." Alyssa laughed slightly as she stepped into the hotel room and looked around. ""My dear, when a beautiful woman is involved, I am never busy. Just give me a few minutes to finish righting myself and we shall be off."
"You say all the right things, don't you, Gardener?" she said, smiling at him, before returning to her attention to the room and nodded approvingly. "It's nice," she said, gesturing around her. "I wish I'd thought of a hotel, it would have saved so much trouble."
She watched him as he laced up his boots. "May I ask what brought you to New York?" she asked. "Just curious, is all."

Gardener continued to watch the woman from the corner of his eye as he finished with his shoes. He flashed her a quick smile.
"I try very hard. And thank you. If I'm going to visit New York, I'd like to be comfortable."
Gardener got to his feet and went to a mirror which hung on the wall. He brushed his hands through his hair.
"What brought me to New York? Well, I was having a bit of trouble with some "aquaintances" back home. I thought perhaps I could enlist a bit of help from the lady I mentioned the other evening. Apparently I was mistaken."
Gardener grabbed a black blazer from where he'd hung it on the back of the chair. He shrugged it on before turning back to Alyssa.
"I'm certainly ready if you are, my dear." He extended his arm to her.

Alyssa frowned. "What kind of trouble?" she asked, before shaking her head. "I'm sorry, sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me... gets me into all sorts of trouble, really."
She smiled as he extended his arm to her and she took it slowly. "Do you know what you want to eat tonight?" she asked, as she started walking towards the door. "Or would you rather just grab the first thing that comes along?"

Gardener smiled at the girl's question. She was actually interested in what had transpired before he had fallen into New York's lap. That impressed him.
"I appreciate your curiosity. And you know what they say-curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought him back. It was a territorial issue with some other vampires. I don't much care for competition when it comes to my property."
"Well," he drew her arm close to his side, "I suppose I could go for anything. What about you? Is there something the lady fancy's this evening?"
Gardener led Alyssa out of the doorway. He guided her out of the lobby and onto the sidewalk. To some, New York would have been beautiful at this time of night. But to Gardener, it made him want to be ill.

"A territorial issue?" Alyssa repeated. She didn't really have a territory, she enjoyed travelling far too much to stay in one place for too long. But she respected other vampires need for territory, something to call their own. "How irritating. You couldn't handle it yourself?"
"I suppose I could go for anything. What about you? Is there something the lady fancy's this evening?"
Alyssa shrugged. "I'm not picky," she said. As they left the hotel and entered the night. "Although I'd like something young... the younger ones always seem to taste better."
As Alyssa looked around at the city, she decided it was probably nearly time for another trip back to Italy... she hadn't been in nearly a century and she felt that perhaps it required her attention. Then she frowned, another, unrelated thought hitting her. "If you came to New York to ask this Alexis woman to help and she wouldn't, why are you still here?"

"Oh, beyond irritating." Gardener rolled his eyes. "You see, I ran a pub in Paris. Another vampire came into town and decided he wanted it for himself. I could have handled it myself, but Alexis used to be so good with what she did......"
Gardener had to agree. Younger humans seemed to have less of a tarnish about them than the older ones. It was like living being freshness. Gardener didn't understand, but he wouldn't complain either.
"Shall we head for Central Park then? Perhaps we could find a young couple out for a job."
He turned and gave the girl another smile. She was a lovely woman to have on his arm. He certainly wouldn't complain.
"Why am I still here?" He echoed the words. "Well, one, given what transpired in our last meeting, I can't simply ignore that I was attacked by one of my own kind. And two....."
Gardener's voice broke off. He was highly curious about Killian Renolds....and why he still lived.
"You know what I said about curiosity killing the cat? That might be my problem as well. That boy I killed...or at least thought I killed....before. He intrigues me."

"Oooh, Paris," Alyssa purred dreamily. "I haven't been to Paris in so long, two hundred years at least." She shook her head and focused back on what Gardener had said. "It's a shame this Alexis has... what exactly has she done?" Alyssa asked, suddenly confused. "Once she was your ally and now she's all but killing you? Is that normal?"
"Central Park sounds lovely," she agreed. A young couple, easily lured somewhere more private, would make a fine meal.
"You know what I said about curiosity killing the cat? That might be my problem as well. That boy I killed...or at least thought I killed....before. He intrigues me."
"Ah yes," Alyssa said, nodding. "The mystery of the boy who just won't die."

Gardener's eyes lit up at Alyssa's reaction to Paris. He couldn't deny he loved his home city.
"There's no place in this world like Paris." He nodded, thinking back to the city he left. Maybe he should just chalk this up to a loss, head back and start a new existence.
"And as for Alexis, who knows what's gotten into her. In theory, it seems she sided up with humans. I've never met a vampire who reeks so badly of human. And apparently, the boy gave her a necklace she's overly fond of. Odd, for a vampire."
Gardener guided them in the direction of Central Park. They weren't far. And at this hour, there had to be humans who thought they were safe now that New York's crime had supposedly been cleaned up.
"It's going to be a lovely night, that I'm sure of." He turned to glance at Alyssa. "I'm sure these humans will die as they're supposed to. And now enough of me. What about you, Miss Alyssa? What has brought you to New York City?"

"Sided with humans?" Alyssa asked, unable to keep the scorn out of her voice. "If there is one thing I've learned, it's that humans are food, not friends... I wonder what could possibly have possessed her to think otherwise..."
"I'm sure these humans will die as they're supposed to. And now enough of me. What about you, Miss Alyssa? What has brought you to New York City?"
Alyssa shrugged. "Boredom mostly," she said. "And I was passing through... I was just in the Pacific, you see, and now I'm making my way back to Europe. I just thought I'd stop by the Americas first and I decided on New York because... well... it's New York."
Her eyes lit up as, almost upon entering the Park, she noticed a young couple sitting under a tree together. Quite young in fact, not even in their twenties if she guessed right. "How about them?" she asked, nodding in their direction.

"Revolting, I know." Gardener rolled his eyes at the concept of a vampire siding with humans, but was pleased when Alyssa stated that humans were merely food. That was how they should stay and there was no point in attaching one's self to them.
"I hear New York is an excellent cure for boredom." Gardener couldn't deny that the city was exciting. An in truth, he hadn't been bored in the time he'd been here. "Perhaps, we should make our travel arrangements back to Europe together. I would enjoy having a traveling companion."
He smiled as they entered the park. So dark even in the brightness of the city. It had to be his favorite place in the city.
"They look perfect." Gardener turned his eyes to the couple which Alyssa had just pointed out. "Children their age shouldn't be out so late unattended. What should our story be to get them away? Lost dog? Lost child?"

"Well, it has definitely been entertaining so far," Alyssa agreed, giving Gardener a sly smile. "And yes, I think travelling together might be nice. You could show me Paris." She'd never really travelled with anyone else before. It might be interesting to have a change of pace.
"They look perfect... Children their age shouldn't be out so late unattended. What should our story be to get them away? Lost dog? Lost child?"
Alyssa thought for a moment. Which method would be most likely to lure a nice couple away from the supposed safety of the public?
"Lost child," she decided finally. "People care more about children than animals."
