Alyssa wasn't aware how long her eyes had been closed. But she hadn't notice Gardener move at all and when she'd opened her eyes again, he was sitting rather than lying down. However long it had been, it seemed to have been long enough as she felt quite wide awake now. She sat up quickly and brushed the dirt off of her top, smiling at Gardener.
"Did I miss anything interesting?" she asked, before glaring down at her shirt. It was going to require bleaching, wasn't it? She should have known better than to wear white on a hunt. She shrugged. She could always buy a new one if it was too bad.
"I certainly hope you didn't get too bored."

Gardener's head turned as Alyssa woke up. He smiled as she sat up beside him.
"Not a thing, darling. I was just doing a bit of souvenir shopping." He reached into his pocket and pulled out the money, the watch and the necklace. "Care for a trinket?"
He held out the items to her. They weren't amazing, but they were something. Gardener always did like to pick up something from his hunts when time permitted.
"We can split the money, or I can keep it all and spend it on a bouquet of roses for a lovely lady I know."
He gave Alyssa a quick wink. Brushing the hair back from her shoulders, he examined her shirt.
"Or maybe we should put it to finding a good dry cleaner for that exquisite shirt?"

Alyssa looked down at the objects Gardener held out to her. Nothing in particular caught her eye so she merely smiled and shook her head at him before running her hands through her hair, trying to untangle it... sleeping on the ground had been a terrible idea and she would not be repeating it.
"We can split the money, or I can keep it all and spend it on a bouquet of roses for a lovely lady I know." Alyssa raised an eyebrow at him but at his wink relaxed into a smile. "Or maybe we should put it to finding a good dry cleaner for that exquisite shirt?"
"Hmmm, yes..." she said thoughtfully. She'd hate to have to lose this shirt, it was one of her favourites... she really needed to learn to plan ahead more. "Dry cleaner sounds like a plan."

Gardener slipped the trinkets back into his pocket. He'd hang onto these. The necklace would remind him of Alyssa and her phenomenal hunting skills.
"Bring it to me tomorrow. I'll see that I find the best cleaner possible." Gardener pushed himself to his feet. Pacing around the edge of the pond, he turned to glance back at Alyssa.
"So what do you think, darling? The night is young. We could look about the rest of city, maybe locate some potential targets for another evening? Maybe in one of the bad parts where no one likes to go after dark? Or is there somewhere else you would enjoy?"
Reaching down, Gardener picked up a rock and tossed it across the pond. He'd never been much for skipping stones. This one was no exception. It sunk into the water like so many of the others he'd tried over his life.

"I certainly will," Alyssa told Gardener as she slowly got to her feet, brushing the dirt off of her skirt. At least the skirt of black and less likely to be ruined.

Alyssa thought for a moment then shrugged. "I don't know," she said. "I don't know if I'm in the mood for more hunting tonight... but I can't think of anything else to do..."
She tilted her head the side. "Surprise me," she said, a slight challenge in her voice.

"Surprise me,"
Gardener took a step back and grinned. He liked the challange in Alyssa's voice. He could have a good time with this.
"Surprise you? Well then, let's go." He wrapped his arm around Alyssa's waist and began leading her towards the entrance of the park.
"So, before I put my master plan into action....you're not scared of heights, are you?"
Gardener led them onto the street and then took a right turn towards the streets which would lead them to the Empire State Building.

"Surprise you? Well then, let's go."
Alyssa allowed her self to be lead as Gardener wrapped his arm around her waist.
"So, before I put my master plan into action....you're not scared of heights, are you?"
Alyssa frowned. "I.... what?" she asked. "Where are we going?"
She thought for a moment. Was she afraid of heights. An image floated just behind her eyes of herself... several hundred years ago... diving off of a rather large building and into the canal below... true in more recent times heights had been increased, but she figured she could handle that. "No, I don't think I'm afraid of heights."

Gardener stopped outside of the doors leading to the building. He knew full well it was closed and getting in would be a trick, but that was all in his fun.
"Don't think you're afraid" He gave Alyssa a reassuring smile as he took her hand. "Well, if you become afraid, I'll be there to protect you. Don't worry."
He brushed his lips lightly against her forehead before squeezing her hand.
"Come on." He smiled, turning back towards the door. "Let's have a bit of fun, yes?"

"Well, if you become afraid, I'll be there to protect you. Don't worry."
Alyssa let out a slight laugh. It had been a long time since she'd needed protecting. From anyone or anything. But it was nice to know it was offered. "I'm sure I'll be fine," she said, smiling as he kissed her forehead.
"Let's have a bit of fun, yes?
Alyssa's smile widened to a grin and she nodded. "By all means... entertain me."

Gardener grinned. He was glad Alyssa didn't have a terrible fear preventing them from going onto his plan. Taking Alyssa's hand, he led her into the building.
"Evening. My sister works at the top of the building." Gardener let go of Alyssa long enough to stroll over to a guard seated at the desk next to the elevator's doors. The guard opened his mouth, but in the instant he did, Gardener grabbed a pressure point on his shoulder and knocked the man out.
"Come on, sweet thing." He took Alyssa's hand in one of his while he pressed the button for the elevator. When it opened, he pulled her inside and pressed the button for the top floor.
"Going up. No stops at men's suits or lady's shoes. This is a one stop shop."

Alyssa watched with interest as Gardener incapacitated the guard but didn't eat him... or even kill him. Just knocked him unconscious. Another one of those things save a lot of time and trouble. She would remember that for the future.
"Come on, sweet thing."
Alyssa laughed slightly. That wasn't one she'd heard before. Not to her at least.
"Going up. No stops at men's suits or lady's shoes. This is a one stop shop."
"No shoes?" she asked, giving Gardener a faux pout as the elevator began to ascend.

Gardener grinned. Women and their shoes! It made absolutely no sense to him. He owned one pair-and that worked perfectly well.
"Maybe another night. We could get into Bloomingdales after hours. Take out a security guard...steal his keys....turn off the alarms....you could have your pick of the store-and the whole place would be on sale!"
Gardener put his hand on Alyssa's shoulder and guided her out when the elevator stopped. Stepping onto the building's observation deck, he did a quick survey to make sure that they were alone. Satisfied, Gardener let go of Alyssa's hand. Strolling to edge, he began climbing up the chain link fence which kept the tourists from leaning over the building's side.
It had to have been about 9 feet high, but he finally reached the top, he swung his legs over the edge so he could sit on the side.
"Come on up." He turned back to Alyssa. "View's amazing."

"Maybe another night. We could get into Bloomingdales after hours. Take out a security guard...steal his keys....turn off the alarms....you could have your pick of the store-and the whole place would be on sale!"
Alyssa smiled. She'd actually been kidding, she could go one night without shoes. But she had to admit the prospect of Bloomingdales being open to only her was quite enticing. "I'll have to take you up on that offer."
She watched Gardener climb the fence and swing his legs over the side. She walked over as he called to her and frowned at the fence for a moment. Climbing it would be slightly problematic with her skirt. Sighing, she used her thumb nail to create a long slit down the side so her legs would be able to move, and quickly joined Gardener at the top of the fence.
"Oh wow, that view is amazing," she said, looking out at the lights of the city. Breathtaking really.

It occurred to Gardener that Alyssa's skirt may be an issue at climbing the fence. He hadn't thought about that. Fashion wasn't something he concerned himself with. As she slit the side and climbed up, he made a mental note to have a new one delivered to her tomorrow. He didn't know where she was staying, but he'd find that out for just those purposes.
"I'm glad you enjoy it." He grinned at her as he turned his head back to the city. "Look over there. That's the area of the docks where the Titanic Memorial is located."
His gaze moved over the city. It made him think of Paris. He hadn't been to the top of the Eiffel Tower in a long time.
"When we're in Paris, we'll make a trip to the top of Gustave Eiffel's tower. That's another of my favorite views. That and from the top of Notre Dame Cathedral."

Alyssa looked where Gardener pointed and smiled, her eyes sweeping the rest of the city once more. From way up here, away from all the people, New York City was quite beautiful.
"When we're in Paris, we'll make a trip to the top of Gustave Eiffel's tower. That's another of my favorite views. That and from the top of Notre Dame Cathedral."
"I think I remember watching the tower being built," Alyssa said thoughtfully, sifting through her memory. "But I got impatient and left... I still don't think I've been to the top," she added sheepishly. "Nor, Notre Dame sadly... my, I really have a lot to catch up on."
