Xavier caught a glimpse of the creature when the light from Fengyu's flashlight hit it, but a glimpse was all the angel got as it disappeared into the lower levels. Despite Xavier's attempts at protest, Fengyu followed the rawhead down the stairs and disappeared after it. Xavier quickly followed her, he didn't want her alone, in the dark, with a creature that knew the area a lot better than her, no matter how capable a hunter she was. Holding his taser in the ready position, he moved down the stairs as quickly as he could, coming face to face with the rawhead. In his surprise he stumbled backwards, falling hard against the staircase, and forgot to fire his taser.

Fengyu turned when she heard Xavier crashing into the stairs, somehow the rawhead had gotten between the two of them. The creature had it's beck to her, presenting an easy target. The hunter targeted the spot between it's shoulders and pulled the trigger. 10,000 volts of electricity surged into the rawhead, killing it quickly.
"Are you ok--" her question was cut off when something jumped from behind, taking her to the ground. Two rawheads!

Xavier watched as electricity surged through the rawhead in front of him. As it fell to the ground, he made to get up and thank Fengyu when she was taken to the ground by a second rawhead. This they hadn't anticipated., Leaping down from the staircase, Xavier kicked hard at the rawhead, sending it flying across the floor and well away from Fengyu. He then carefully took aim, as the rawhead got to its feet and came at them again, and fired, the rawhead spasming as the electricity burned at it. Eventually the electricity stopped pulsing and the rawhead fell to the ground. Satisfied it was dead, Xavier turned back to Fengyu.
"Are you alright?" he asked, holding his hand out to her to help her to her feet.

Grasping Xavier's outstretched hand, Fengyu was pulled back onto her feet. She could feel some bruises forming on her back from where the rawhead a hit her, but her thick clothing had taken most of the damage.
"I'm fine, thank you. Guess it's a good thing we ran into each other."
The hunter picked up her flashlight and preformed a slow sweep of the room, making sure there were no more surprises. She hadn't expected there to be two rawheads hunting in this area, and wanted to be absolutely certain there weren't more.
"I am not expert on western mythology, but I always assumed these things were solitary. Have you ever heard of them hunting in pairs?"

"Yeah, I guess it is," Xavier said, watching Fengyu as she looked around the room, making sure there were no more rawheads. His own eyes surveyed the room and he was pretty sure they weren't in any immediate danger.
"...Have you ever heard of them hunting in pairs?"
Xavier searched his mind for what he knew about rawheads and shook his head. "No, from what I can remember, they're solitary creatures, highly territorial." He looked between the two bodies of the rawheads. "This makes no sense."

"No, it doesn't. Mating season maybe? They have to maintain a population somehow."
It was simply wild speculation, but it was the only one Fengyu could offer. She was hardly an expert in the breeding habits of things that went bump in the night. The hunter shrugged and made her way up the stairs, ready to be out in the clean night air once again. She was half-way through what had once been the main lobby when she thought she heard a soft whimpering.
"Did you hear that?"

Mating season made sense. Sort of. Xavier wasn't really familiar with the breeding habits of evil... although thinking about it he decided it would make sense for him to learn.
"Did you hear that?"
Xavier had, although he'd been too busy thinking to pay much attention. He stopped and listened and recognised the sound as a small whimpering. He frowned. Evil didn't usually whimper. Then it clicked, the meal of choice for a rawhead was...
"Children," Xavier whispered.

"I think so."
Fengyu concentrated on finding the source of the noise. She could barely hear it, but the source seemed to be at the far left corridor. Following the whimpering, the hunter traveled through the building, eventually finding herself outside a heavy oak door. When the hunted tried to turn the handle, she wasn't surprised to find it locked.
Kneeling to bring herself closed to the space between the floor and the bottom of the door, Fengyu spoke in her most reassuring tone. "Hello, is anyone in there? We're here to help."

There was more whimpering in response to Fengyu's question, but Xavier thought it seemed hopeful. He put a hand on the door, trying to look like he was testing it's strength, and felt for the presence behind the door. There was definitely somekind of helpless someone behind the door, and satisfied that what was there wasn't going to try and kill them, tapped Fengyu on the shoulder and hestured for her to stand back.
"Step back from the door," Xavier called, stepping back slightly and adjusting his weight. There was a scampering sound on the other side of the door and Xavier waited until the sound had stopped, letting him know they weren't right in front of the door. He paused a moment and then kicked at the door as hard as he could, knocking it to the ground and revealing the small children on the other side. He let out a sigh of relief, he'd half expected another rawhead to show up.

Fengyu had trained her rifle on the door as Xavier knocked it down. She lowered the weapon immediately when she saw that the room's only occupant was two small boys. They were filthy and terrified, but appeared unhurt. Four boys had gone missing, and the hunter was sad that she had not found the hunt fast enough to save them all, but she knew that considering that there had been two rawheads in the area the survival of the boys was a miracle.
"Are you two hurt?" Fengyu asked, taking a canteen of her belt and offering to one of the boys. He drank deeply from before passing it to his companion. Both children shook their heads no.

Xavier held out his hands to help the boys to their feet. They were hesitant but allowed him to help them and he was relieved to discover that they were indeed unharmed. Physically at least. There was no telling what kind of psychological damage may have been done.
"You're safe now," he assured them, allowing the younger of the two to wrap his arms around his neck, then lifted him up. "How about we get you some food and then take you home?"

Following Xavier's lead Fengyu took the older boy by the hand and lead him out of the Station. Getting these boys food was a big priority, they could call their parents from her cellphone once they got into town. The two hunters would have to come up with some sort of explanation for why they were in the woods before the police got involved.
"Come on," she said softly, "you're almost home."
She knew the children would never be the same after this, but they had survived. Time would help heal the rest.

Walking out of the woods, Xavier began to frown. He'd simply appeared in the woods, following Fengyu, and therefore didn't have a car or any other plausable means of transportation with which to explain his presence. Things might get awkward if Fengyu thought to ask.
In an attempt to keep attention on the children, he looked at the small boy in his arms with a smile. "So, what do you feel like eating?" he asked. "You can have anything you want."
The boy whispered something about pizza and Xavier turned questioningly to the other boy. "That okay with you?" The other boy nodded and Xavier grinned. "Pizza it is then." He wasn't entirely certain what pizza was or where to find it, but he was sure Fengyu would be able to sort that out.

It warmed Fengyu a little to see that the boys were lively enough to request what was obviously a favorite food for both of them. The normality of the food would hopefully help them put all this behind them. She knew from personal experience how helpful such small details could be during times of stress.
"Pizza is it?" She asked the boys in a light tone, her foreign accent catching their interest immediately. "It has been years since I have had a slice. Which place has good pizza here?"
It was a practical question, she was new to the area, and Xavier was likely unfamiliar with the town as well. Looking for a pizza place on their own would waste time, and the hunter wanted to contact the boys parents as soon as possible.

The boys lightly argued about which place had better pizza and Xavier smiled. It wasn't often he assisted in what many of his brethren would refer to as 'the small cases.' Although this case didn't feel small. Two boys were alive and relatively well, and he'd helped save them. It made him feel useful as opposed to his normal 'silent guardian' stance he usually took towards earth.
He heard a car speed by up ahead and realised they'd reached the edge of the woods, the abandoned rangers station far behind them. He adjusted his grip on the boy in his arms and looked around. So, how to get from here to town without revealing the fact that he didn't have transport?
"Almost there," he said to the boys.
