Alexis sighed. She continually managed to find herself in these situations. She was losing her touch somehow. All these years living in New York and now she was fighting with half of the community over what she had, hadn't or might have done.
"I may have, yes. But I didn't leave you alone out there. I kept you here because you were safe here. I knew nothing would happen here. Yes, it's my fault. But I did what I could to protect you afterwards."
Alexis knew that if she had heard the excuse from someone else, she would have laughed. And truthfully, she was expecting the same reaction from the other vampire.

The other vampires words caught Lenore off guard, why hadn't the demons just ended her existence? It wasn't like she hadn't been clear about which side she had chosen.
Still suspecting that Alexis had something sinister up her sleeve, Lenore sneered, "Why, why didn't you and your demon friends finish me off? What good is a human-loving vampire to you?"

Alexis didn't get laughter, but she got the type of reaction she had expected.
"Look, I'll level with you," Alexis took a step closer, "I've recently begun to spend a large amount of time with humans myself. I'm giving them a chance, so to say. I can't exactly fault you for who you spend your time with. And I would hardly say "demon friends." They're associates, that's it. They may prove useful to me."
She wans't sure if Lenore would buy her reasonings. It was another situation where she was certain her actions would have had to cement her words.

Fengyu was having a hard time hearing clearly from her position at the top of the stairs, carefully she leaned forward to hear more of the conversation.
"Why . . . you . . . demon . . . off? What good is a . . . vampire to you?"
The hunter jerked when she heard the familiar terms, unfortunately the unconscious movement threw off her balance. Unable to catch the onto something to stop the fall, the young woman tumbled head first down the stairs. Her training kicked in as she reached the bottom of the stairs, and she was able to land on her feet. Unfortunately, her her entrance had been anything but stealthy. A gun and a hunting knife wouldn't be much protection against the the two beings that now stood a few paces away.

Lenore was just begining to process Alexis's words when a figure came crashing down the staircase. A young Asian female crouched at the other side of the room. Even though the newcomer smelled human, the vampire tensed, ready for an attack.

Alexis caught a wife of Fengyu, but heard her before she saw her. The girl had apparently just rolled down the stairs. Fortunately, Alexis didn't smell blood.
Turning, she looked over at the girl, and then back to the other vampire. Lenore seemed on the verge of attack.
"Easy." Alexis stepped across the room to the other vampire. "It's all right. She's all right."

Fengyu forced herself to take slow, even breaths; whatever was going on in the basement, Alexis was clearly trying to keep it under control, panicking would only complicate things.
"All this talk of vampires and demons," the hunter said softly, "what is going on Alexis?"

Alexis looked sympathetically at the human. She was surprised how suddenly concerned she was. The girl was all alone over here, and working for whatever cause she was after. This had to scare her beyond all beliefs.
"Let's explain." Alexis murmured, holding out her hand to Fengyu. "First, I'll clear the air. She's a vampire, as am I."

Lenore kept her eyes on the human when Alexis dropped the V-bomb, looking for signs of disbelief or panic. Most people didn't react well to learning about the supernatural, let alone ones in the habit of drinking blood. Lenore glanced towards Alexis, remembering what the vampire had said about giving humans a chance.
"We're not going to hurt you."

Sen read the lines of the other women's bodies, both were tense, but neither looked ready to attack. The hunter straightened, holding her hands up, away from her body in a gesture of peace.
"If your words are truth, then America is a strange place indeed. I have never encountered vampires with such claims before."
'God,' she prayed silently, 'let it be true.' It had been a few years since Fengyu had encountered a vampire, and then she had been well armed and with one of her uncles.

Alexis nodded, keeping her peace. She was proud of herself. This wouldn't have gone so well a few months ago.
"It's very true." Alexis murmured, moving closer to the hunter. "No one wants to hurt you. She's harmless. Once upon a time, I wasn't, but times, things, people-and vampires-change."

The expected panic didn't come. "If your words are truth, then America is a strange place indeed. I have never encountered vampires with such claims before."
Lenore let the human's words sink in as Alexis spoke. "Never encountered. . .like us. You've met other vampires though? You're a hunter?" Lenore looked towards Alexis, "How exactly did you two meet up?"

Fengyu was still trying to process friendly vampires, Asian legends were full of good supernatural forces so the idea wasn't completely alien to her, but it was still a little hard to believe.
"Dui--I mean yes, I'm a hunter. Miss London, I'm not sure, I mean. . .how." Her English failed her, she stopped, her mind moving i too many direction for her to formulate any of the questions moving through her head. Finally deciding to go on a little faith, Sen unholstered her sidearm and pulled out the clip.
"If you claim to be peaceful, then it is also not my wish to hurt you."

Alexis turned to glance at Lenore. Turning her eyes back to the hunter, she suspected she was still apprehensive.
"We met in the park-briefly-and accidently." She tried to explain, even though the concept was extremely odd for her. Friends were not Alexis's deal for the most part.
"So you're a hunter?" She approached the other girl slowly. "I hadn't considered that concept. I suspected this "case" that you were working on was very personal."

Lenore fully relaxed when the hunter unloaded her gun, the girl probably still had a knife or something on her, but the gesture was appreciated. When Alexis explained that she had met the hunter in the park, Lenore couldn't help but smile a bit, what were the odds of a vampire and a hunter running into each-other in such a manner?
"Well, now that we've established that none of us are interested in killing, I'm Lenore-- drifter, vampire, hunter. . .long story; and you are?"
