Gardener's eyes flickered open. They fell first on filthy black darkness above his head. It was odd how he could tell that darkness was dirty. It was probably some result from having died in a plague somewhere in history.
Pushing himself upwards, Gardener hissed in pain. Now he remembered all of his injuries. He had no idea who to blame first. Actually, scratch that-he knew exactly who to blame-Killian, Alexis and whatever the hell his name had been-Ryan? Ryden?
"ALEXIS!" Gardener screamed. "If you can hear me, you're dead!"
And she would be-right after he finished with Killian. The human had lived this time-at least Gardener thought he had. He was going to take the boy out as soon as he got his hands on him.

New York. It had been such a long time since Alyssa had been to this place... the 1930's was it? And things had certainly changed. There were no longer people living in the park, the buildings were taller... but one thing had not changed. The people. They were all the same, just as stupid, just as filthy and just as willing to be alone at night as they always had been.
She had managed to, quite easily, lure a young boy into a small dark alley so that she could feed. He'd been quite delicious, although she thought he may have been drinking because the meal had left her a little buzzed. And now she was walking, letting the night sink into her. Night had always been her favourite time, even when she had been human... maybe that was why she had been so accepting of her new life to begin with...
"ALEXIS!...If you can hear me, you're dead!"
Well, that sounded far too intriguing to ignore. Alyssa immediately turned right and headed in the direction of the yelling, finding herself by a sewer pipe. She bent down slightly and peered in.
"Hello?" she called, a slight grin on her face as she saw something in the pipe. She inhaled sharply and, behind the smell of waste she caught the unmistakable scent of vampire.

Gardener groaned. The fight back in the apartment had taken a nasty toll on him. Now he had a wound in his shoulder to add to the ones in his legs. He wished he had the strength to get back there. He would burn the place down with all three of them inside and....
"Hello?"
He heard the voice-and caught the scent. Female vampire-but NOT Alexis-thankfully. Had it been Alexis, there would have been no screwing around. He would have ripped her head off in two seconds flat.
"Hello!" He called back. "Who's there?"
Gardener hated being dependent on another being. He was not about to ask for help even though he truthfully could have used it. He was not about to let that cat out of the bag until he had to-and until he knew who he was talking to.

"Hello! Who's there?"
Alyssa laughed. "I think the more important question is, who is there?" she countered. "And what on earth are you doing in a sewer pipe?"
She tilted her head slightly. She could smell blood, but not human blood, was whoever was in this ridiculous pipe bleeding? "I'm Alyssa," she offered finally. "Alyssa Scarani... are you alright?" a ridiculous sounding question but for all she knew, he wanted to be in there.

"I'm Gardener Wild." He responded, feeling disgusted with the entire situation. "And believe me, I'd love to be anywhere else but in this fcking pipe. And I'm spending this lovely evening in a sewer pipe thanks to my charming ex girlfriend and her-whatever the hell the human she has running after her is."
Gardener determined he was going to have to make some attempt at climbing out of here. True, he could probably heal down here, but there was the annoyance of being discovered and not having the ability to quickly kill someone.
"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Alyssa. And unfortunately, no, I'm not. You see, the lovely ex that I mentioned allowed her rodent to shoot me several times with silver-and iron I believe. Think you could be so kind as to help a gentleman out? I'd be highly in your debt."

"I'm Gardener Wild."
Gardener Wild, Alyssa repeated silently to herself. She knew that name... vaguely... he had quite the reputation.

Alyssa made a sympathetic hiss of pain. "My, quite the break up," she said. "And I do love having people in my debt." She climbed into the pipe slightly so she could get a proper hold on Gardener and hoisted him out of the pipe, lowering him gently on to the ground and examining him. "Hmmm... those are some wounds... have you eaten tonight? You might heal better with a good meal in you."

Gardener waited a moment to see if the other vampire would help. He hated meeting women like this. Covered in blood, stuck in a sewer pipe and looking for help was not his calling card of choice.
A second later he felt hand on him and lifting him from the pipe. Once reaching the ground, he shook his head and wiped blood off his face. Turning to look at his rescuer, he was pleased when his eyes fell on a strikingly beautiful woman.
"My deepest thanks, Miss Scarani." He smiled, before turning the attention to a wound on his shoulder.
"I owe you greatly. And no, I haven't-unfortunately. But you are correct, it may do a world of good." Gardener thought there was no meal he'd rather have this evening than Killian Reynolds.

"Not a problem," Alyssa said, standing up an dusting her hands. "We shall just have to find some way for you to pay me back later."
She thought for a moment. She wasn't accustomed to helping other's, not even other vampires, she had no nest of her own, but she didn't go out of her way to harm her kind either. And it sounded like Gardener had been harmed by another vampire. So perhaps, just this once, she would help someone other than herself.
"Would you like me to find you something to eat?" she offered. "A young girl perhaps? I saw a few not far from here."

"Which I promise I will." Gardener gave the vampire a smile as she stated he would pay her back.
As she mentioned food, Gardener considered the topic. The previous thought of Killian raced back into his head, but that wasn't going to happen now. No, certainly not now....but it would happen again. Which reminded him, Gardener was damned certain he'd killed the boy, but he was alive enough to shot him? How did that happen?
"Yes, a young girl would be lovely." He set his eyes on Alyssa, focusing another smile in her direction. "My, Miss Scarani, you certainly know how to rack up a man's tab. If I live another 500 years, I'm not certain I'll have paid you back. Let's hope that you don't have to end up in my current predicament in order for that to happen."

Alyssa flashed a smile at Gardener. "Debts are my specialty," she said lightly. "But I hardly think this one will take too long to repay... I'll be right back."
She disappeared for a moment in search of a meal for Gardener, finding a group of girls walking the streets alone and shaking her head. They never learned did they? It didn't take her long to seperate one of the girls from the group quietly, pretty, blonde and shy, the other's barely even noticed she was gone. She lead her to where Gardener was waiting.
"Here you go, dear," she said to Gardener, pushing the girl to her knees in front of him. The girl was, by now, beginning to figure out that something was wrong, but that didn't matter. It was far too late by this point for her to do anything about it.

Gardener watched as Alyssa disappeared from his site. His anger was still pulsating through him, but he had to remind himself that this would all be taken care of in time.
"Here you go, dear"
His eyes lit up as Alyssa returned, complete with young girl in tow. His eyes flashed black as the girl landed on her knees before him.
"Nice choice." He gave Alyssa a quick glance before grabbing the girl's hair and pulling her throat to his. This didn't give the girl time for the usual whines and pleas of not wanting to be killed. Which was good, he hated that. He put his fangs into the girl's throat and drank.
When he body fell limp, Gardener threw the body aside. He already felt much stronger.
"I think that's going to make all the difference." Gardener being running his fingers over the wound on his shoulder. With the tip of one finger, he found the bullet. Pushing gently on the tissue surrounding it, he watched as it hit the ground next to him.

Alyssa sat herself down, cross-legged on the ground, her elbos resting on her legs and her chin in her hands, watching as Gardener drained the girl. Her eyes followed the bullet as it fell from his shoulder and she stared at if for a long moment before turning her attention back to Gardener.
"So," she said, smiling at him. "Care to regail me with all the thrilling details of how it was you came to be shot and stuffed in a sewer pipe?"

Gardener turned the attention to his legs. He began attempting to locate the bullet in his left leg. Tearing open his pant leg, he saw the spot where it had lodged.
"Well, let's see...." Gardener glanced up at Alyssa while he felt the bullet. "I went to try and make amends. However, my lovely ex girlfriend wasn't at home. But a young man which I know fed off of a short time ago was there-and he was alive. He's the one who inflicted all three bullet wounds. I'm going to blame the sewer pipe on Alexis. I doubt a human would be strong enough to carry a vampire and shove him into a sewer pipe."
Gardener remembered something. He'd gone to Alexis's place with a gift. Reaching into his pocket, he felt the locket's gold chain.
"And by the way," he pulled the gold locket out and held it out to Alyssa, "would you do me the favor as accepting this as my first token of appreciation?"

Alyssa listened as Gardener explained what had happened. "Well that's just rude," she said. "And you say you fed off of him, but he lived? That is most intriguing..." he tapped her chin with her fingers as she thought. "Perhaps you didn't kill him the first time? Or perhaps he is simply not human..."
She looked at the gold locket Gardener held out to her in shock. It had been a long time since she had been given jewellery. She took the locket carefully in her hands before fastening it around her neck.
"It's beautiful," she said. "Thank you."
Alyssa looked at Gardener for a long moment. "Do you need any further assisstance or are you able to carry on by your self?"

"He was dead." Gardener glanced up as he withdrew the bullet from his left leg and turned his attention to his right. The wound on his shoulder was recovering already.
"I suppose he could be unhuman. But he tasted human. Unless he's a twin, I suppose that's a possibility. I'd be very interested in finding out though."
Gardener smiled as Alyssa fastened the necklace about her neck. It seemed perfect on her.
"That looks lovely on you, if I do say so myself. But I imagine that there isn't much that doesn't look lovely on you."
Gardener finished off the bullet in his right leg. With the blood in his system and the bullets out, he would have a much better chance of recovering now.
"I think I can manage myself now." He smiled at the vampire. "I appreciate your help more than I can say. I certainly hope this won't be the last I see of you, Miss Scarani?"
