Alexis unlocked the store's front door and was momentarily relieved that the building was still standing. It was the only joy she could take in the moment. Her return trip home from London had been a nightmare.
First of all, she'd caught a cab to Heathrow Airport from the hotel, only to be delayed by a traffic accident. The accident had caused her to miss her flight. The next available flight to New York wasn't for another four hours.
Getting passed security had been another deliema. She'd ended up losing $200.00 worth of perfume and cosmetics because they were the wrong size to be taken on the plane. But checking them wasn't an option, as the luggage she'd packed in New York had yet to show up. By the time she'd reached her gate, Alexis wanted nothing more than to go to sleep. But the insomnia she thought she'd fought off would let her have none of it.
Alexis figured that boarding the flight would cut out her negative energy, but no luck. The flight started experiencing engine troubles over the ocean. Most of the people on the plane were panic stricken, but Alexis didn't really care. She couldn't drown, but if the plane exploded that could be a bit of a trouble. Burning a vampire was always a good way to kill them.
The engine trouble forced the plane to land in Pittsburgh. Alexis had never been in a more boring city in her life. She had spent two hours pacing back and forth between a set of windows before finally getting back on the plane to head towards NYC-but not without a stop over in Washington, D.C.-of course.
Alexis studied the store and decided it was in decent shape. She looked horrible. Her carryon bag contained the dress she'd purchased for meeting Compton, her wallet and her handbag. She'd managed to throw on a pair jeans, some flip flops and a gray cable knit summer sweater. She wanted rid of this bad luck so she could be herself again.
"Killian!" Alexis yelled, dropping her bag and starting for the stairs. "Killian! I'm back! Where are you?"
He wasn't in the living room. The bathroom door was open, so Alexis suspected that meant he was in his own room. But that failed too. Alexis raised an eyebrow. Since when had Killian taken to hanging out in her room?
Stepping into the bedroom's doorway, Alexis felt a pang of horror. The room looked like a war had been fought in it. And in the middle of all of that, Killian was passed out on the floor. Well, she assumed he was passed out, but he could have been dead....again.
"Killian!" Alexis dropped to her knees beside the boy. "Killian!"
He was breathing, so that was a good solid indication of being alive. Alexis could relax slightly.
"Killian! Wake up!"

Ryden had been more then welcome to the idea of traveling back to New York with Alexis to help and sort out the bad luck which had plagued her and her friend he would classify the hman as for the time being or until he got information that led him to believe something else. Having traveled with relative ease Ryden had waited for Alexis to arrive as he ddi not see it as proper to enter into her dwelling un-invited no matter the circumstances.
He had midnfully watched from across the street as Alexis had arrived and he allowed her the time she needed to deal with whatever was nearby but all the same Ryden let himself into the bottom floor of her dwelling once he had heard her retreat to the upstairs should she find herself in immediate trouble he would be a stones throw away.

Killian had found himself lost in the darkness you could say right around the time his head had crashed none to gently with the television stand. Though being out for the count did have its high points such as nothing could go wrong while he remained out of it...or at least nothing he had control over and Killian was more then happy to remain in a state of blissful ignorance when it came to the possibilty of Gardener busting out and ripping him limb from limb.
Killian!
.....epic fail.
Killian!
The panicked voice was slicing through the comforting grasps of darkness and Killian heard a low groan from somewhere and could only assume it came from him.
"Killian! Wake up!"
The vocie kept getting louder and louder and Killian was pretty sure if it didn't stop his head would explode in response.
Killian forced his eyes open and stared up owlishly at the form in front of him which swam in and out of focus before he curled over on his head his hand shielding his eyes from the light which was slamming through his mind. He at least had a concusion and it was doing its damndest to make itself known.

Alexis let out the breath she was holding when she realized that Killian was coming to. That was when she noticed the smell. How she'd managed to miss it before, one could only guess, but somehow she had. There was blood smeared all over the floor. And that was bad.
"Killian!" Alexis gasped. She was relieved that he wasn't head. "Hey!" She put her hand on his forehead, brushing back the hair. Seeing the boy's hand go to cover his eyes, Alexis's eyes went to the window and she realized that the light was probably not helping a damn thing.
"Give me a second." She picked herself up from the floor and went to the window. As she looked out before closing the blinds, she caught sight of a familiar figure. Ryden Alexander Compton was standing across the street. Alexis looked at him and beckoned to him, motioning him towards the apartment. Then she closed the blinds.
Turning around was another adventure. Alexis realized that for some odd reason, all of the furniture in the room had been pushed against the linen closet door. She was afraid to ask.
"What happened?" She knelt back down beside Killian. "What happened? Are you bleeding?" She tried to look at the back of his head, to see if there was a mark.
"Talk to me." She smoothed her hand through his hair, trying to turn his head gently towards hers. "Tell me what happened."

"You are waaaaay too loud," Killian groaned as he attempted to bury his head in the crock of his arm. Every word Alexis seemed to say sounded like she was screaming it and he wasn't entirely certain yet that she wasn't.
Killian knew that Alexis was asking him things and he was doing his damndest to concentrate on her words but he couldn't make much out above the pounding in his head...being knocked out had been a lot less painless.
Killian jerked and cried out slightly as Alexis ran her hand through his head hitting a particular sore spot where he would be willing to bet was where he had slammed his head against the stand.
"Tell me what happened."
That was the trick of it was that Killian couldn't exactly put all the pieces of everything back together just yet but something was biting at him that all was not well.
"I closed the shop like you said...stayed up here...didn't do anything..." Killian braved the light and pulled his head out of the crock of his arm as Alexis turned his head gently towards her and it was then that his vision cleared and he caught sight of the furniture pushed against the door he felt all of the color drain from his face.

"Ok, ok." Alexis tried to lower her voice. The fact that he was conscious was positive and she wasn't going to argue it.
"Sorry!" She jerked her hand away from his hair. He'd obviously cracked his head off of something good.
Alexis followed Killian's eyes to the closet door. Apparently, he'd had a pretty nasty argument with her 500 thread count Egyptian sheets. She wasn't going to ask right now. There was a nagging feeling in the back of her head that she really didn't want to know what was in there, and all she could do was hope that he'd just decided to rearrange the furniture and that was where it happened to land.
"Ok, stay still." She got up from the floor and headed out to the kitchen. Dumping one of the ice trays onto the towel, she wrapped it tight and headed back to Killian.
"Keep this on." She held the ice pack against his head. "Once you're feeling better, we'll get you off the floor and into bed-and then to the emergency room."

Killian didn't dare move as Alexis went out of hte room to do God only knew what instead his eyes lay souly upon the closet door. He strained to see if he heard anything on the other side of it but for the most part Gardener seemed to be silent...passed out...or dead...or perhaps all of the above if at all possible.
Killian jerked back into the present as Alexis held the cold compress against his head. The ld felt like tony knives digging into his head and he held it against his flesh for all of a minute before he discarded it on the ground.
"It's cold..." he muttered knowing he more then likely sounded like a child but he could have cared less.
Killian's eyes focused on the gun for the first time which had been knocked on to the floor when he slammed into the stand.
"...Gardener came by...after we talked he came looking for you and I um...I..."

"Obviously. It's ice." Alexis shook her head. "You aren't bleeding. Where'd all this blood come from?"
She settled herself onto the floor as Killian began to relate the story of what had happened. As Gardener's name fell from his lips, she tensed. Alexis looked to the side. That's when her eyes fell on the gun.
It was the one Jon had left her. The one loaded with iron and silver bullets. A sick feeling started to creep through her stomach.
Gardener.....stopped by.....gun......baraccaded closet........
"Oh no." Alexis whispered as her eyes fell on the closet. Suddenly, she knew what was behind that door.
Her immediate reaction was to open the door...to see what had happened.....but then she remembered all the bad luck they'd had. Before she did anything, she needed to get Killian out of this room and locked in his own. And she needed back up.
"Can you walk? Or do I have to carry you?" She looked at the closet, and then back to the boy.

Killian's eyes traveled across the blood smeared floor and he cringed slightly as he noted the blood stained his hands and jeans and everything else on him yet it wasn't his...no he knew exactly who and where it had come from.
"He thought I killed you...he was tearing your stuff apart...breaking things and I panicked...I...I shot him...twice...once was an accident and the second time...teh second time I just wanted him to shut up..." Killian explained his vocie distant and his eyes never moving away from the closet door.
"He passed out...or he died and I dragged him into the closet...and here we are..." Killian explained wondering how exactly Alexis was going to react to what he had done.
"Can you walk? Or do I have to carry you?"
"Where are we going?" Killian asked his attention focusing once more on Alexis.

"Oh shit." Alexis groaned as she heard Killian's story. She sat back and rubbed a hand across her forehead. This was bad. Gardener was going to be furious when he woke up.
"Ohhhh." She sighed. "This is going to be bad. And we're going to your bedroom. And we're locking the door. And you're not coming out until I have Gardener dealt with."
Alexis didn't wait for an answer as to whether or not the boy could walk. She scooped him up from the floor and carried him out of the room. She settled him down on his bed before returning to her own room and retrieving the gun and the ice pack.
"Keep the ice on your head. And keep the gun nearby. I'm going to lock the door from the inside before I leave. Don't open that door unless I tell you to. And if Gardener comes in, shot him."
Alexis squeezed his hand and headed towards the door. She pressed the lock on the doorknob in before she headed for the hallway. Casting a quick look at the barricaded door, she turned and ran down the staircase to find Ryden Compton. There was no way she was opening that door without back up.

Gardener woke, and immediately became aware of a strong scent of soap or some sort of cleaning product. As his eyes adjusted, he realized he was no longer in the room he'd passed out in, but in a smaller and darker one.
Some sort of closet, no doubt. Gardener sat up, ignoring the burning pain in both of his legs. He was going to rip the kid to pieces as soon as he got his hands on him.
"KILLIAN!" Gardener twisted so that he could slam a fist against the door. "KILLIAN! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! YOU LET ME OUT NOW AND I MAY GIVE YOU A LAST WISH BEFORE I RIP YOUR HEAD OFF!"

Killian was going to protest about a few things but before he could he found himself disposed of on his bed. Vampires moved far faster then he would have liked but in the same way the bed was much more comfortable then the blood caked floor.
"Keep the ice on your head. And keep the gun nearby. I'm going to lock the door from the inside before I leave. Don't open that door unless I tell you to. And if Gardener comes in, shot him."
"Alexis..." Killian started but she was already locking the door behind her.
"Be careful..." he muttered in warning as she shut the door behind her locking him in. He sat there on the bed for several seconds going over the events that had happened and the events that could happen and none of them ended very well and Killian would be damned if he was just going to sit in the room and let Alexis get killed.
Killian made for the door not really ok with the whole idea of being locked away in the room like he was 5...even if it was in his best interest. Pulling himself from the bed and waiting a second for the room to stop spinning a sluggishly made his way to the door.
"KILLIAN! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! YOU LET ME OUT NOW AND I MAY GIVE YOU A LAST WISH BEFORE I RIP YOUR HEAD OFF!"
Killian froze; his hand on the doorknob and his eyes growing slightly wider as he took note of the furios tone that ripped its way down the hallway.
"Maybe I should stay in here..." he muttered to himself as he pulled himself away from teh door and made his way back over to the bed slumping down on it as he waited for all hell to hopefully not break loose. His head was pounding though and in a few minutes time he resigned himself to laying on his side and though he knew it was probably a stupid thing to do with a concusion he fell asleep...what was the worst that could happen after all?

Ryden heard the angry bellow of another vampire from upstairs and his eyes narrowed considerably as he began to put the pieces together that whatever sort of vampire was upstairs and creating that sort of racket was the cause of Killian's message and the need for Alexis to have hurried home as she did. Therefor the man...whoever he was was an enemy as far as Ryden was concerned.
Ryden's eyes locked with Alexis's as she ran her way down the stairs and he met her at the bottom of the landing.
"I did not wish to intrude upon your moment upstairs...but it seems rather clear that perhaps things have taken a poor turn? I can offer my assistance if you wish me to?" Ryden asked as he gently clasped Alexis's hands in his own. Ryden was a man of a much different time and no matter what the years did around him he stayed true to the man he had been so long ago.

Alexis was more than relieved to find herself nearly running directly into Ryden Compton. She was surprised to see him. She'd been so caught up with Killian, she hadn't heard him coming inside.
Taking a deep breath, she squeezed his hands in an attempt to regain her own control.
"I would appriciate it more than I can say. Killian-the human boy-he's hurt. He hit his head. But there's another vampire locked in a closet upstairs. His name is Gardener Wild. He's the vampire who initially directed me to you. I hope you've never heard of him. We used to be involved, and needless to say it was not an amicable split."
Alexis turned her head towards the staircase. The last thing in the world she wanted to do was open that closet door. Gardener was going to be furious. She was hoping that they could talk some sense into him-but that was entirely wishful thinking.
Alexis started back up the stairs. She kept one of Compton's hand's clutched in hers and guided him after her.
"I suppose we should get this over with." She sighed heavily. Alexis reminded herself how in Ryden's debt she was going to be. But the thought would be short lived as bad luck continued to catch up with her and she tripped up the stairs. Her shin bone collided with the stair. Alexis managed to land face down on the floor. She groaned. There was nothing in this world she wanted more than this bad luck to go away.

"Then you shall have it. And no I have not heard of that name as far as I am aware," Ryden explained with a quick nod of his head as Alexis explained that both her and the boy would be in need of his help; and he would do what he could to help them both. Even the human boy which many would frown upon; but the boy was Alexis's and if he was importnat to her then he would be important to Ryden.
Ryden attempted to catch on to Alexis as she tripped and hit the floor forcefully but she was an inch out of reach. He did not wait for her to pull herself from the floor he simply scooped her up within his arms and carried her the rest of the way into the room before setting her down upon the edge of her bed.
"My luck seems to be better so if you would like I can get the door opened and see what it is we are dealing with?" Ryden asked as his eyes traveled around the room and took in teh mess of it all.
"Is the boy ok?...The room does not give credence to a positive situation before our arrival..." Ryden muttered as he began to quikcly shift the piece of furniture from in front of the closet out of the way.
An idea crossed his mind as he set about the work; it was an old vampire law one that along with so many had fallen along the wasteside but just the same it had been and was still in all technicality law as far as their race was concerned and though Ryden was more then certain the vampire who was held within the confines would care much it could be beneifical if the vampire perished in the end.
"Alexis...I need you to do something only if you wish but would be rather important...since the boy is human and he seems to be under your protection I need you to classify him as yours. I am not sure your familarity with the old law but if o human was "claimed" either for turning of to be fed off it could not be harmed and true our world is different now but it could be a card played within our favor...will you claim the boy?...If only in words?" Ryden asked his eyes resting once more upon Alexis.
