Bianca flipped up her sunglasses and took another look at the bright blue sky. It was so rare. The sky was never, ever, this perfect and cloudless. The sun was warm, and it was the absolute perfect spring day.
She never got into the city anymore. Bianca couldn't remember the last time she'd actually seen Central Park before today. After all the weirdness which had occurred lately, she'd just wanted to be in a big area with lots of activity and people. People and activity meant positive energy. True, there were probably a few crazies, but as long as she stayed out of theatres she felt safe enough.
Bianca stretched backwards on the bench she was laying on and closed her eyes. Sunlight washed over her. Sighing deeply, Bianca let her eyes fall shut. In the back of her head, she knew that if Paolo had succeeded, she would have never seen this day.

Felicity walked the path through Central Park, her cane tapping absently in front of her. She could feel the warm sun on her back and vaguely wondered what today looked like. She tried to imagine it but she wasn't sure what the colours were supposed to be like, she wasn't sure how to picture blue, or green or light. She sighed and continued on. She didn't mind being blind, she didn't know any other way to be, but sometimes she wondered what it would be like to see like everyone else.
She approached the bench she usually sat on, slightly off the path, and paused slightly. There was someone there, she could here them breathing. She tapped the foot of the bench lightly with her cane, the vibrations letting her know the someone was stretched out across the bench.
"Excuse me," she said, a polite smile on her face. "Mind if I sit?"

Bianca's eyes flickered open. A girl with a cane stood in front of her. For a moment, Bianca wondered was going on-and then realized the other girl was blind. A strange pang of concern shot through her. If she had survived-and her eyes had never been replaced-that would be her life.
"Sure, absolutely." Bianca sat up. She smiled softly at the girl. It was nice to see that she was so independent and getting out. She wondered if the girl had a seeing eye dog. That would be really cool.
"It's a nice day to be out." She said, keeping the conversation light.

"Thanks," Felicity said as she heard the girl sit up. She cautiously sat down on the bench, resting her cane next to her and crossing her legs. The sun was now on her face and she smiled into the warmth.
"It's a nice day to be out."
"Yeah, sure feels like it," she agreed, tapping her fingers lightly against her knee. There was a bee somewhere behind her, the frequency of its buzzing changing as it moved among the flowers. She could smell the flowers, the Bleeding Heart, and frowned slightly. She never understood why they were called that. Must be a sighted people thing, she thought to herself.

Bianca crossed her legs underneath her and turned to face the girl. The girl absolutely fascinated her. Maybe because she was wondering if she would have coped that well. She wondered if the girl had always been blind, or if this was something she was getting used to. She seemed so well adapted.
"It's gorgeous." Bianca nodded, taking another glance around the park. "I think everyone in New York is here. There's so many people everywhere. I can't imagine staying in today."
Bianca watched a man playing frisbee with his dog nearby. A German Shepard-no doubt. Bianca wanted a dog. She wondered if she could get one that would travel well with her.

Felicity couldn't imagine staying in today either. Jamie had tried to make her, he'd been doing that a lot lately. Getting overprotective, which was not normal. But he wouldn't tell her why so she'd left the house anyway.
She heard something whistling through the air towards her and quickly focused on it. She raised her right hand and caught whatever it was before it hit her in the face. She ran her hands over it, feeling the shape of it before smiling. A frisbee. Within moments an excited dog was jumping up in her lap, trying to get a hold of the frisbee. She laughed, lifting the frisbee out of its reach.
"Sit," she said firmly, her hand on the top of its head. The dog was obedient and sat immediately and Flick threw the frisbee back in the direction it had come from. The dog bolted from its place at her feet, barking loudly.

Bianca saw the frisbee coming and told herself to react to catch it. But before she could put the plan into action, the other girl had reached up and caught it.
"Nice." She said involuntarily. That truly was a pretty impressive move.
Bianca laughed as the owner of the frisbee-well, at least the intended recipiant-was suddenly at the bench. The other girl was extremely good with dogs. Bianca imagined that some people would have freaked out with a strange dog they didn't know-and couldn't see-running at them.
"Do you have a dog?" She asked, watching the dog gallop off in the direction of his frisbee.

Felicity nodded in response to the girl's question about a dog.
"One, his names Rudi," she said. "He's supposed to be our guard dog, but he spends so much time following me around the house, making sure I'm okay, we'd be robbed and he wouldn't even notice."
She crossed her legs beneath her, not interested in what was happening on the path in front of her, and tucked her bare feet under her knees. She loved Jamie, but it was nice to talk to someone who wasn't lecturing her about the dangers of evil spirits and demons and blah blah blah.
"What about you?" she asked, focusing back on the girl next to her. "Any pets?"

Bianca smiled at the girl's answer. She knew a lot of people who said that if someone broke in, their dogs would show them the valuables.
"My parents did, but I personally don't have one. I'd like to get a dog. Something big to medium sized."
Bianca stared off across the park again. It was nice to be having a sober conversation with someone that wasn't about demons or something else that no one believed in.
"Do you come here often?" She had to wonder that if the other girl was blind, she probably had a routine she stuck to. She couldn't imagine that someone without sight would wander through a strange city.

Felicity smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I'm here almost everyday, if only for a little bit," she said. "Most people wonder why I bother, I mean, I can't see so what do I get out of it? But it's nice, especially on days like today when it's so full of life." Central Park was actually one of the few places Felicity didn't encounter ghosts needing her help so it was a nice place to take a break.
"You, on the other hand, don't," she said. "I've never seen you around here before... or, well... you know what I mean." She smiled. "Where are you from? If you don't mind me asking."

"No, it's good. You should get out-if you can. The fresh air is good for you." Bianca nodded empathatically. It was good to see someone who was energic and full of positive spirits. Well, the good kind of spirits. Not the restless ones she usually dealt with.
"I'm from Upstate New York. I don't get into the city very often. It's been years since I've been down here. I just wanted to come back to the city. Pick up on some good vibes, you know?"
Bianca reached into her bag and pulled out a pony tail holder. She tugged her long hair back and wrapped it with the band.
"I'm Bianca, by the way."

"Upstate, huh?" Felicity asked. "If you don't get into the city often then you definitely miss out on the greatest chocolatrie in the world."
Felicity extended her hand to Bianca. "Nice to meet you, Bianca, I'm Felicity. Call me Flick," she said with a smile. She liked Bianca, so far, she hadn't judged her on her blindness.
"This may sound strange, but I'd like to know what you look like," Felicity said, lifting her hands, slightly, hoping Bianca would know what she meant. "Do you mind?"

"Really? Where's that? I'm a fan of chocolate." Bianca grinned. She didn't get much chocolate other than the stuff that came out of general vending machines. She hadn't had anything really good since she'd left home.
"Felicity? That's awesome. My little sister's favorite doll was named that." Bianca thought back to the red haired American Girl doll Natalia had lived with for most of her childhoo.
"It's really nice to meet you, Flick."
For a moment, Bianca was more surprised that blind people actually did see people the way Flick was suggesting.
"Yeah, that's fine." Bianca shrugged. She reached up and touched the other girl's hands gently. "Go for it."

"It's a little place on Park Avenue," Felicity explained. "I'll shout you a hot chocolate or something sometime."
She felt Bianca's hands on hers and slowly lifted her hands to the other girls face, forming a picture in her mind of the shape of her chin, and her nose, and her cheeks. Various images found their way into Felicity's mind. She couldn't see them very clearly but they felt like fear and pain. She managed to push them out of her mind and slowly take her hands away from Bianca's face. Hopefully the other girl hadn't noticed any change in her behaviour. What ever Bianca had gone through, Felicity knew it was none of her business.
"You're really pretty," Felicity said casually, smiling at Bianca.

"I'm in." Bianca answered to the girl's suggestion about hot chocolate. "I'm usually stuck with the stuff from Starbucks. And half the time it's burned."
She sat perfectly still as the girl's hands traced over her face. For a second, Bianca thought that Flick seemed to have picked up on something. She couldn't be sure what it was. The blind couldn't feel scars, could they?
"Thanks." Bianca smiled at her words. "I have to tell you the same thing. And I think it's great that you're so active. Being blind would scare some people-well, at least it would scare me. That's admirable."
