Alexis hadn't opened her shop yet. Opening the shop would have required going home, and she hadn't done that yet. It had been a late night on Staten Island. That wasn't one of her usual haunts, but she'd come across an abandoned mental institution a few weeks ago. A little research had shown her it was a familiar hangout for devil worshipers. And they provided a challenge.
Devil worshipers liked to think they could scare her. Upon entering the building, she was nothing but a fresh sacrifice to them. It made Alexis laugh. Her? An innocent victim of human men? Not hardly.
After watching her rip apart one of their partners, the group would go running for their lives. One had made it out last night, but Alexis had left a few claw marks on his throat, indicating that he wouldn't be speaking.
This morning, it was raining. It was nearly 7 on Sunday morning. Alexis liked that hour. It was less tarnished by idiots roaming around the city and getting in her way. In the trip back to Manhattan, the rain had begun, taking the blood from her Gucci shoes and long legs. The rain made the whole morning feel fresh, clean. And after the night she'd had, it was eerily peaceful. Central Park seemed like the perfect place to enjoy it.
As the rain picked up, Alexis paused under a bridge to pull an umbrella from her inside coat pocket. She opened the black item, flicking it over her head. She strolled back onto the rain-slicked path. For the moment, her shoes were the only sound. She could only imagine the vision she was, with dark hair, dark shoes and a dark trench coat covering her dark dress. But something was missing.
Alexis reached into the side pocket of her coat and withdrew a pair of Chanel sunglasses. She slipped them on. Perfect. The morning couldn't really get any better.

Fengyu loved running in the rain. Her mother loved to tell her that she would catch her death one day, but the hunter just laughed the older woman off. Central Park was beautiful in the morning, a bit of paradise in the middle of the hell that was New York City.
Fengyu stopped at a bench to tighten the straps to her boot-knife on her left ankle, her gun dug into her side as she leaned over. She self-consciously tugged on the hem of her pant leg to ensure the knife remained hidden. To her left the hunter heard approaching footsteps, a fashionably dressed woman was coming up the path. Fengyu straightened as the stranger drew closer.

Alexis kept her eyes straight ahead on the pathway. As she approached, she saw a young girl. From the way she was dressed, she was apparently a morning runner. Alexis raised an eyebrow. Would these girls never learn it was unsafe to run alone in this park?
"Good morning." Alexis smiled calmly as she came closer. "Lovely morning for a run."
She meant it sarcastically, but she didn't really care if the girl took it that way or not.

Jon walked through the park after having just left an early meeting with a business associate. He pulled his coat tight over his suit and walked through the park admiring the sights of New York. He had been through the city plenty of times but never visited the infamous Central Park, it reminded him of being back in his own country with the trees and the peaceful surroundings. A group of runners ran past him as he made his way down a path, drawing a few glances from some of the women in the group. He cut a pretty decent figure when he was in one of his Armani's. With his Dolce shoes and Armani sunglasses, he figured he was handsome looking. He was just going around a bend in a path when he saw a young girl sitting on a bench and another woman approaching from the other direction of the path. Even as far back as he was he could see the young girl was in a running outfit while the woman was dressed immaculately with Chanel sunglasses and Gucci shoes no less. He was about to continue walking when he noticed something about the young woman. He had read several texts on the subject of body language and there was a large vibe coming from her he read clearly. She was packing and was ready to use it. He wasn't sure if it was a safety issue but you couldn't be sure with people now a days. He checked his pocket for the small break action pistol he carried. It was only two shots and a small caliber but he felt better having it. He made his way down the path towards the women and hoped that if the young girl planned on using the gun she'd think twice with more people around.

"Good morning. Lovely morning for a run."
Fengyu wished she had more experience using English with native speakers. There was something strange in the way the woman delivered the line, she just didn't know what.
"Yes, morning it very nice." the hunter stopped, catching her mistake, "Sorry. Yes, it's a very nice morning."
A man had wandered close during the conversation, the way he was looking at her body made Fengyu uneasy.

Alexis moved her eyes from the girl to an approaching man. The man was extremely well dressed. Alexis respected another being wearing sunglasses in the rain. Eyeing both the man and the girl, she considered her options.
She had spent all night on a blood mission, which had put her in a decent mood. And there was no simple way to murder two people at dawn in Central Park without giving yourself away. Besides, 5 dead in a few hours was good for her. There was no point in pressing her luck. She'd play nicely this time.
"Darling, if you're in need of some other running suits, I just got a few at my shop that no one else seems interested in. I'll cut you a deal."
Alexis looked towards the approaching man. She untied the belt of her coat, revealing her low cut and short black dress.
"Come see me sometime." She produced a card, which she laid beside the girl. Retying her coat, Alexis nodded towards the man.
"I always liked those sunglasses. I thought they were one of Armani's best collections. But I have to say, the spread I saw in GQ didn't do them half the justice that you are."

Jon's attention was drawn to the woman when she turned to look at him and when she untied her coat it certainly helped keep his attention on her. She wore a beautiful black dress that complimented her already beautiful figure.
"That's a very lovely dress, but it makes me wonder why you'd be wearing it in the rain at this hour of the morning", he wasn't sure how common it was for people to walk around dressed up but she had mentioned owning a clothing shop. It was probably common practice for her to dress up as such.
"Thank you, I'd return a compliment but I can't even began to think of words that compare to how lovely that dress is on you. If I may speak bluntly, you have lovely legs", he watched the other girl out of the corner of his eye. She looked less dangerous up close and his earlier guess about the gun being carried for protection was probably close.
He turned to the girl in the running outfit and inclined his head, "Please forgive me for staring, I had no intention of being rude."

Fengyu looked at the card the woman handed her, were Westerners always this forward? Still the woman's offer was kind, and new running outfits would be nice. Fengyu had grabbed only a few changes of clothes in her rush to catch her flight to New York City.
"Thank you ma'am, I will look into it."
"Please forgive me for staring, I had no intention of being rude."
Fengyu considered the man for a moment, still unsure of him.
"It is no problem."

The man had just played the best card he could with her. Alexis smiled.
Well done, human. You just bought your life until our second meeting.
"I'm on my way to church." Alexis paused long enough to see if the man took her seriously, and then laughed lightly. "No, I had a late night business affair at a local art gallery. You know how artists in this city are, it ran until just a short while ago. Although I have to say, I've been in these heels since 9PM and I'm getting a bit jealous of our friend here."
She beckoned to the other girl before giving him a look of mock surprise.
Very well done.
He was winning points with her. Alexis glanced between the two, a slow smile slipping across her face. Eventually, she could use them both for one thing or the other.
"You do that, my dear. I'll help you out. And you," she turned a gaze to the man, "I respect a man who speaks bluntly. It's a talent that seems to have been lost over the years. You've quite a way with words, darling."
She reached into her pocket, producing another card which she passed to the man.
"Alexis London." She told him. "My card."

"It is no problem."
"Thank you, I can imagine it is a little unnerving.
He tried to hide a genuine look of surprise when the woman mentioned she was going to church. He couldn't quite see someone dressed so provocatively sitting in church. He realized she was kidding when she began to laugh.
"I know exactly what you mean, I just came back from a meeting with a business associate. They have a tendency to sit around for hours over nothing important. If it's not a problem, my truck isn't parked to far away. It'd be no problem to drop you off somewhere."
"What can I say, I've always been a little old fashioned."
He took the card from the woman who introduced herself as Alexis London.
"Jon Brunner", he replied, "Intrigued."
He moved his gaze over to the other woman that Alexis had given a card to, "I'm afraid I hadn't caught your name miss- ?"

"Fengyu Sen, It is pleasure to meet you Mr. Brunner, and you Ms London"
Fengyu was a little surprised at how a random encounter had turned into a full blown conversation, and even more surprised when they got around to introductions.

Alexis liked the look of amusement she'd gotten from the man. He was very attractive and he played into her. Alexis was more impressed with him than any human she'd encountered in some time.
"I know what you mean. They do tend to dwell on the small points." But in her case, Alexis found that her business associates wasted her time with things like "please don't kill me" and various pleas of the like.
"I do appriciate the offer, but I believe I'm going to be staying in town for a little longer. There's an estate sale on 5th Avenue that I'd like to check out."
Other than her compliments of Brunner's outfit, it was her most honest statement yet. Alexis was in the mood for new merchandise. She may have been a vampire, but she was also a business woman.
"No rest for the wicked, hhmm?" Alexis winked at Brunner, giving him a seductive smile.
Alexis turned to look at the girl as she gave her name. She couldn't quite place the accent.
"Where is it that you're from, dear? I can't place the accent. And what part of England are you from?" She flicked her eyes back to Jon.

"Quite, sometimes they can be real bloodsuckers if you know what I mean. They hardly see people, all they worry about is your bank account", he gave a small chuckle at the joke.
"Good luck, I hear New York is a very expensive place. Don't let them rip you off on any deals."
"Indeed, I guess that makes you especially wicked if you've been out all night", he said returning her wink.
"South Yorkshire or rather a small village there. Where do you come from if you don't mind my asking?"

Nice word choice.
Alexis smiled her amusement at Brunner's words. He'd picked a good comparison.
"Well said. The ones I deal with seem to be less interested in my bank account as in their own personal interests. But I'm sure you know how that is too, they'd never dream of letting you get something you want done."
It made her think of the previous night, where men who had been so content worshiping Satan had been so terrified of her. Alexis didn't understand people.
"Oh, it is. You see it far more in my line of business."
Alexis switched out of vampire mode and into business mode. It was one of her favorite mindsets, and if the man could talk business, she was more than happy to do so.
"My shop carries a large amount of vintage items, a good deal purchased from various estates. Sometimes you pick up a bargain-and sometimes you have to walk away from a beautiful piece because the current owner would rather have your soul than strike a bargain."
Alexis glanced at the girl again. She'd encountered a great deal like her over the years, but still couldn't quite place what part of Asia she might be from.
"I suppose being out all night might make you normal in this city." She laughed, giving Brunner another smile. "What with some of the...uniqueness hereabouts."
"Ah yes, of course." She nodded as Brunner said he was from South Yorkshire. Her last visit there had been somewhere around 1799, but she wasn't about to get into that.
"I was born in Hungary, raised in London, lived in New York briefly, moved to Paris and now here I am back in New York." Alexis gestured around her. "I suppose I'm from everywhere by this point."

Fengyu stood up and stretched a little, noting that even at full height, she was still shorter than both Jon and Alexis.
"Where is it that you're from, dear? I can't place the accent."
"That is not surprising to me; I am here from Taiwan for business."
