Bianca turned to look at Lenore.
"The smell?" She echoed. "What type of smell was it? And did you ever notice any weird footprints or anything out there?"
Bianca held out the book to her, giving the vampire the option to check it out if she wanted.
"I think the Jersey Devil was typically attracted to small animals, if I remember correctly." She told Jon. "It's been known to attack dogs. In 1909, it attacked a trolley car and a bunch of farmers lost chickens."

Lenore searched for the words to describe the smell.
"Molting feathers, blood, and decaying flesh. I tended to go the other direction when I smelled it, scent was too bad. You ever wonder how the whole garlic myth started? Hyperactive olfactory senses."

"Feathers, blood and flesh going bad would sound like chickens and if it was so intense that it drove you off then maybe whatever is killing things has a nest near that area. Bianca where did you say the pig killings happened?", Jon opened a map program and called up a satellite image of the area.
He could connect lines from point to point to give an area where the nest would most likely be or at least where the creature hunted. He was about to mention the idea to Bianca and Lenore when there was a knock at the door. He opened up the door to find a pimply faced teen holding a pizza box.
I got an order for Chad Smith, the kid said with his voice cracking. As Jon went to pull some money from his wallet he noticed the boy staring into the room at Lenore and Bianca, no doubt wondering what was going on. As Jon handed him the money he gave the kid a stern enough look to turn tail and practically run to his car.
"Pizza's here", Jon put the box down on the table and hleped himself to a slice. He gave his idea to the girls to see what they thought, it wasn't much but it was a start.

Bianca had to take a moment to think of the Ritchie Farm's address.
"It was the Ritchie Beef Farm. Blane Road, Elks, NY." She shot a glance towards the door. Bianca waited until Jon opened the door and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw it was only the pizza guy.
She picked a slice from the pizza box and nodded at Lenore and Jon's thoughts.
"A nest would make sense. Or a cave maybe. There's lots of those around Elks."

Watching the silent exchange between Jon and the pizza guy, Lenore couldn't help but smile.
"If it's a nest then would we be dealing with more than one?"

Jon finished up his slice and went for a second one, he stopped for a second to type the address into the map program and started checking for any other attacks. He found a few and started narrowing down the area. He was about to show the girls the area he had found when he heard Lenore's comment.
Oh bloody hell, what if she's right?
"If that is the case then we will probably be out for a few nights checking different places."
Jon printed out the map from the small portable printer he had and made three copies. He gave one to Bianca and Lenore each.
"I think we should start over here first", he pointed to the forest nearest the pig farm.
"Since you both had encounters there then it's probably our best shot. Maybe the nest idea is right, it would explain why you could smell it but find no trace. The whole time it was probably above you and just never noticed. If you want we can check tonight."

Bianca licked some sauce off of her fingers and listened to the conversation.
"A nest is going to be a mess." She thought out loud. "But watch out, that's where I encountered that demon." She pointed to the section of the map that Jon was indicating. "Make sure we're prepared to handle demons."
Bianca started pacing around the room. She was trying to sort out all of this mess.
"I think tonight is our best option." She stated. "Let's get a good look ASAP."

Lenore leaned closer to the map, comparing the landmarks it mapped to the real woods. She lifted her head when Bianca mentioned the demon.
"Right, so. . .holy water, salt. . ." The vampire trailed off, trying to decide what weapons she needed to bring. The shot gun and the rifle were her best options; as much as she favored swords, her cutlass would only give her enemies a weapon with which to cut off her head.

Jon had started making his own lists of what to bring, he didn't want to much but he needed enough to handle as much as possible.
"Alright we'll go tonight, maybe we can start at the area where the latest killings were. I've got some stuff in my truck to use, just give me one second", Jon brought up his file with the information on demons. He got up and went out to his truck to gather the equipment they'd need just for the demon.
Three sets of salt spreaders Three iron bars Three half gallons of holy water A pair of gloves Six stakes of Palo Santo
He carried everything back inside and set it down on the table.
"Ok, I got some of the basics. We have salt spreaders, all you have to do is turn the nozzle on the end of this tube and it'll pour out in a stream. It attaches at your waist to make it easier to carry it around", Jon moved three metal bars that had been shaped into baseball bat shaped objects complete with grip tape covered handles.
"Demons are vulnerable to iron and can't cross an iron line, so if you run out of salt this can bridge the gap or you can just hit them with it. We have three half gallons of holy water, we can find some squeeze bottles so you can spray them if needed. Now this is a pretty rare find", he pulled out six sharpened stakes made from a light colored wood, "These are stakes made from Palo Santo, otherwise known as holy wood. Lenore I don't know how vampires react to iron, salt or holy wood but I do know holy water probably wouldn't agree with you so I grabbed you a pair of gloves. I got them for me so they may be big but none of this stuff should get through them. If you have your own pair that's fine but I'd rather have us all prepared instead of suffering because of an inconvenience. I have several pistols, rifles and shotguns in my truck bed as well so later we can take a look and you two can find what you like."

Bianca liked Jon's plans for handling demons. He was well versed on them. She wished she'd had him on her side last night. Maybe things would have turned out better-like there'd be a dead demon instead of a crazy live one runng around.
"How much ammo do we need?" She looked between the two. "I've got some silver bullets as well. We can use those. I've probably got three boxes, but if we need more, I can call a friend."
Bianca pulled one long curl over her eyes and watched it spring back and forth when she pulled it. She made a mental list: pistol, shotgun, silver knife in case she got into hand to hand combat.
"I've got some more salt as well, and some holy water, but not sure how much. Between the three of us, I think we've got everything covered."

Carefully Lenore took the blunt object from Jon, testing it's weight and balance in her hand.
"Thanks, I'm sure this will come in handy. I'll bring my rifle and shot gun. How will you two see in the dark? Flashlights might spook our prey."
Lenore walked to the adjoining room and grabbed her sports bag. Opening it up, she withdrew her guns, setting them on the bed. Next she checked her ammo supply, it was begining to run low, but she would have enough for tonight.
"I'm good on ammunition Bianca."

Jon hadn't thought about looking around in the dark.
"We could try some red light filter flashlights, I don't carry night vision goggles so that's out", this was going to be a big challenge to get over.
Jon went through his equipment in his mind to see if he'd need to grab anything. Maybe a stop by a sporting good store for some shotgun shells but that could wait another day. He toyed with the small cross beneath his shirt as he thought. Whatever this thing was, it may not go down easy. He had hoped to find out more but their information was limited and they'd have to take a chance. He made a note to grab two seperate magazines with silver and iron. Maybe a brass one but that was hardly ever needed.
"We've got hand to hand weapons covered, ammo covered and we have special equipment done. The only thing is what to do about night vision, either of you happen to know if tonight's a full moon?"

Flashlights would spook their hunted, unless of course it was something that was drawn to light.
"Let's take at least one really good flashlight, just in case." Bianca continued twirling her hair. She was making a mess of it, but it helped her think.
"You know what I have in my trunk? A box of those little glow sticks they give kids on Halloween. I bought them at a Halloween store end of season sale last year. I thought I might need them at some point, so we can use those. Even if we put them in a pocket so we can ID each other. That way no one gets shot."
Bianca remembered something. She went into the room she and Lenore had been sleeping in. There on the wall was a cheap calander from some bank.
"Tomorrow's a full moon." She announced, returning to the other room. "We'll have a good amount of natural light tonight."

"Good, so lights not going to be a big problem. Anyone have a good cover story if we get caught?"
Lenore wasn't expecting much human trouble in the woods, but anyone who came across three well armed people wandering around the woods at night was sure to be suspicious. It was better to go in with a cover story rather than come up with one on the spot.

Jon hadn't thought of that, it was a pretty rural area so one good idea came to mind.
"Bianca your poor dog got rabies and it ran off into the woods, we wanted to catch it but we decided to put it down ourselves."
It was a pretty shoddy one but it should hold up no problem. That was about all they needed to think of.
"I guess we just wait around till it's dark enough to head out. Maybe we can watch some tv or something."
He found it pretty ironic that he was in a hotel room with two girls and his first thought at what to do was watch tv. Alexis was the only woman he thought of, he missed her hands holding his. He wondered what she was up to.
