Rick held the phone against his ear in his bloody hands as he waited for someone to pick up the phone. He knew it was late but he also figured the fact that he was currently bleeding to death was a good enough reason to call past 10:00.
He held one arms across his abdomen trying to staunch the blood flow but it barely worked as the floor around him was soon covered in his own blood. He was beginning to worry that any moment now he was going to end up bleeding out on the floor of his office in a god forsaken town he hadn’t even wanted to live in.
“Please pick up,” he whispered his eyes closing briefly before he pushed them open again and waited for Melinda to answer.

Melinda jumped when she heard her cell phone going off. She'd switched some nice music on and was cleaning up the store...which basically consisted of still unpacking. She sighed. It had just been getting to the good part. Even if it was really late and she probably should have headed home to her currently rented apartment she'd felt the need to at least finish another box or two...which had led to another box or two and so forth.
Looking at the caller ID she raised a brow. Why was Payne calling her again? She flipped her phone open and held it with her shoulder as she picked a feather duster she kept around for play more than actual use. "You ate shrimp didn't you?" she asked in a teasing voice.

Rick held the phone to his ear with as much strength as he could which wasn't a lot. It kept slipping and his eyes kept losing whatever focuse they had. The ringing from the phone was blaring through his head though he was pretty certain it wasn't as loud as he currently thought it was. He fianlly allowed his eyes to close for a moment but the sound of Melinda's voice caused them to snap open again.
"Melinda?" Rick asked his voice laced with pain and his words slightly slurred as he fought to stay concious now that he had her on the phone.
"I think I might be ... in a bit of trouble...Mel..."

Melinda frowned. Well that didn't sound good. Not at all. "Rick?" she questioned, picking up the controller that was next to her and turning the sound system off. "What's going on you sound really bad," she said, starting to sound a bit worried.

Rick fought to stay with it so that he could hear what Melinda was saying but it got a bit harder as each second ticked by.
"Melinda..." for a moment words were totally lost to him and he had no idea what it was he was going to say. He had found himself in a bit of a spot seeing as though Melinda didn't know he waseven in Lawrence. But he assumed bleeding to death on the floor of his office was worse then Mel. finding out he had followed her out to Lawrence.
"I think I pissed someone off...a demon...I'm...I'm pretty sure that all of the blood is supposed to be on the inside...but I could be wrong," he muttered his eyes slipping closed for a moment as he shifted slightly on the floor trying to find a semi more comfortable spot but the pain made that impossible.

Melinda's eyes widened, in surprise, a bit of fear, and some anger mixed in. What the hell had he done to piss off something of the supernatural element?! "YOU WHAT?!" She started to pace. "What do you mean your blood should be on the inside? Rick?"

"That is where it's supposed to be right?" Rick asked his voice very low and barely audible as his eyes scruntched slightly in confusion.
"Melinda?" he knew he had been talking to her but for some reason he just kept needing to make sure hw wasn't just talking to dead air.
"She took my book," Rick replied with a small pout as the scene began to play out for him once more as he shifted and bit back a cry of pain as the small motion caused pain to tear through him again.
"She stabbed me Mel...I think...I...Kate isn't here but I think I might...I might be dy...," he muttered softly allowing his eyes to drift shut as he tried to rest but knew he couldn't cause that meant he wouldn't wake up.

Melinda tried hard not to let out a dry laugh. Even if he was wounded terribly the guy could be sarcastic. "Okay Rick I need you to stay with me," she said, already walking over towards the store phone to call Jim to get Rick. He was on call that night so he'd probably get to him quickly if he wasn't already out on a rescue.
"Where are you? Are you in your office? I'm going to call Jim. I'll get him to come get you right now," she said as she started to dial the store's phone.

Rick struggeled to stay with her as Melinda asked him to but it was getting harder and harder to focus on even holding the phone.
"I don't think I'm going anywhere," Rick muttered looking down at the blood around him.
"Yup not going anywhere," he said again his eyes satring up at the door willing for someone to come through it.
"I'm in office...but I don't htink can get here...it might take awhile...really really long while...I don' think I have enough blood for that..." Rick whispered knowing it was past the point of no return.
"I...need you to come Mel...I sort of am...am at Greenacres...too...fckin hate it here...at the school Mel...I think I might need some help..."

Melinda felt her heart skip a beat and the room grow cold. He was in Lawrence? Well there'd certainly be some yelling going on...after she got to him. "Alright alright. I'll be there in just a minute. Don't fall asleep and keep talking. I'm going to stay on the phone with you as I drive," she said, already pulling out her keys and hitting the lights, jacket pulled on.
She quickly locked up. "You still there?"

Rick coughed for a moment and then struggled to swallow down the bile which rose in his throat, he was pretty sure if he heaved that would be that as a hole in your gut wasn’t best recipe for heaving your guts out.
“You know…more then half of car accidents …are from talking on…the phone,” he whispered with a faint smile full well knowing now was not at all the proper time to be giving her shit especially since she was on her way to save his ass; or so he hoped before he died anyways.
“Yeah…I’m not goin anywhere,” he muttered pressing his back against the wall lightly trying to push away from the blood on the floor but that was pretty much impossible as it was everywhere.
“Just so you know…if I die…I am so gonna…haunt you…” he whispered shivering slightly as the cold began to creep around him, he felt his body slowly going into shock and he was having more and more of a struggle to stay conscious.
The phone tumbled out of his hand and he stared at it on the floor in front of him the tremors in his body worsening, he was so tired and he was entirely too cold at the moment. He allowed his eyes to slip closed and he grew still after a few moments.

"Rick you give me anymore mouthing off talk and I'm going to kick you all the way back to town," she said as she got in her car as fast as she could and started to head for the college. She continued to rant for a bit as she sped her way down the streets of Lawrence. 'It was a good thing the cops were so few around here,' she thought as she continued on.
"Haunt me? Don't you threaten me Rick Payne. That's my job as soon as you get better you idiot," she said as she pulled into the parking lot. "Up and coming to Lawrence and not telling me. You are in more than just the current trouble you find yourself in," she said as she jumped out of the car.
