There was a downside to being the type that rushed into danger: you tended to rush right into traps. Normally Michael would check for such things, but the situation had seemed so normal. A group of lower level demons had been tormenting a pair of children. Lilith and some other powerful beings had managed to disguise their presence until after the archangel was already engaged in battle.
Now she was very much outnumbered, and possibly also outmatched. Not entirely unheard of, but certainly rare. The other archangels were all engaged in important tasks elsewhere, so calling for backup wasn't an option.
The barn offered many places to hide, and Michael was currently ducked behind a hay bale, waiting for the next attack. While the demons, other than Lilith, could not kill her, they could most certainly cause injury. Maybe weaken her enough for their leader to finish the job. There was also the possibility that one of Lilith's more powerful followers was a fallen angel. Michael hadn't really gotten a chance to identify every present. If that was the case, then they would also be capable of ending her.
The archangel sighed and adjusted her grip on the sword. Nothing was ever easy anymore.
