Carter's eyes were cold and dark as he glared back at Mercy; it was about all he could muster though. It felt as if every nerve ending he had was fried and as odd as it was to explain it felt as if he was missing something as if there was a part of him slowly being eaten away and it was slightly agonizing but he was far to pissed to focus on that. Being pissed at Mercy was an easier distraction; easier in the fact because he was supposed to be dead and she was supposed to be far the fuck away from him fucking safe for a change.
"...It's not my fault you blew up a town and took a nap on the side of the road."
The anger behind Carter's eyes flickered slightly at the memory of Travis Town was brought to the for front. He had murdered more people then he cared to think of at the moment and he actually cared. It was one thing to do it for the money; to do it as a job or to do it on a mission...it was something else entirely to lose control of what he was and blow a fucking hole in the country...that was a big fucking problem my friends.
"I don't know!"
Fanfuckingtastic; now they were going to have a fucking screaming match on the side of the road. He should have been fucking dead but instead he got this.
"I don't fucking know! I hate you Carter. With a passion. Do you know that? First, you try to kill me. Then, you somehow convince me to give you 30 grand to keep the angels off my back. Followed by you treating me like a piece of shit for weeks on end for no apparent reason. It was like nothing I did was good enough. Not even saving your pathetic life. I hate you."
Carter held his silence; he had asked the question after all though he hadn't counted on the flood gate which had irrupted from Mercy in response to his question...she apparently kept things inside more so then Carter would have thought...and apparently she really fucking hated him more so then he thought.
"And yet you died there. Or almost did. At any rate, I thought you had. In my arms. And it hurt how much it upset me. I mourned for you Carter. What the fuck kind of person mourns for someone they can't stand? So, I don't know why the fuck I care whether you live or die. I just do."
As Mercy's words continued on in a torrent of anger and emotion Carter felt his own anger go the way of the dinosaurs and he quickly found himself at a loss of words...which was not something that happened all that fucking often. It was easier to be pissed at Mercy...it allowed him to hold up walls he couldn't if he wasn't being a dick it really was as simple as that.
"Now get in the fucking car!"
Carter had opened his mouth to reply and quickly shut it; his own antagonistic nature taking her tone as a challenge. He fucking despised being ordered about and currently he could run down a list of things he despised...being stabbed through the fucking chest and saved by archangels was high on the top of said list.
Carter's hand was clenched so tightly that his nails were drawing blood from the palm of his hands as he glared back at Mercy. His body leaned heavily against the truck as his eyes glared angrily back at Mercy.
"I asked you to kill me...not fucking save me for a reason," Carter growled out as his cold blue eyes glared at Mercy once more before he forced himself to turn from her and stumble to the door of the truck. It took what was left of his strength to wrench open the door and pull his rain drenched form back into the truck. Carter had little to no energy left as his head lulled against the window. His wet hair matted against the glass as he allowed his eyes to slip shut for a moment as he attempted to breath around the fact that it felt as if his insides were on fire.
One of these days it would be nice to just fucking die in peace.

Mercy was breathing heavily. It was quite a rant, even for her. And the fact that she had been screaming in the rain didn't help with how out of breath she now was. It was probably good she had gotten that out, though. Bottling it up much longer might have resulting in one or both of them dead. And then this would have been a total waste of time.
"I asked you to kill me...not fucking save me for a reason,"
"Oh, whinge," she growled, watching him slowly make his way to the passenger side of the car before getting in herself.
It really was astounding how much this man pissed her off. And she was sure the feeling was mutual. Which was why she really had no clue as to why she continued to save his ass when her life would be much simpler without him.
And yet something had put her on that road at the same time he'd melted down. Mercy hesitated to say God because she knew he didn't give a crap about either of them. But something had done something to make sure she was there to help Carter. She just couldn't figure out what... or why.
Go fucking figure.

Carter used what little energy he had left to pry open his eyes as Mercy opened the door and got back in the car. He offered her a glare as he gritted his teeth his eyes snapping shut as the fire in his organs flared slightly causing a tremor to run through his entire body shaking him damn near to the core. Carter could feel the sweat gather on his forehead even though he would rather chalk it up to rain water. He didn't know what the hell Lilith's knife was capable of but whatever the hell it was it had thrown his entire system in overload and underload all at the same time. He didn't have the fucking energy to choke a fucking cat but the air around him was popping with enough energy that the digital clock on the car's dashboard crackled in and out every few seconds.
Clenching his eyes shut Carter did what he could to calm his breath and push away the lingering pain. Carter's breath hitched slightly as he slumped in his chair unconscious his breathing evening out and the tension in the air of the car calming immediately and the storm outside of the car growing calmer; the rain much more of a drizzle apposed to a massive downpour.

Mercy started the car, ignoring the slightly pained noises Carter was making, pausing only in mild concern for the noises the electronics in her dashboard were making. Satisfied they weren't about to be consummed in a fiery explosion, Mercy carried on in silence, knuckles white as she gripped the steering wheel in frustration.
At the sound of Carter slumping in his seat, Mercy glanced sideways at him and reached over to check his pulse and his breathing. Normal. Well... normal for a guy who'd been stabbed by a demon and healed by an archangel. He was fine. Just unconscious.
"Thank fucking Christ for that," she muttered, switching the radio on and turning her music up nice and loud. Carter being unconscious meant that there would be no furious bickering on the long drive back to the convent. Bliss. She noticed that it suddenly became much easier to see, the rain and wind calming somewhat. She shot a glance at Carter's unconscious form suspiciously, wondering how much of what was going on had to do with what the demon did to him.
By the time they actually did get back to the convent, Mercy was close to passing out herself. It had been a long, tiring day and being around Carter tended to drain her of energy. She wondered if he was actually sucking the life out of her - consicously of not - or if hating him so much was just exhausting her on it's own.
Regardless, they would be rid of each other soon. Assuming Carter didn't try to blow up any more towns. Turning off the car, Mercy stepped out and walked around to the other side of the car, opening Carter's door and shaking him violently.
"Home safe and sound," she said as she tried to wake him. "Now get out of my car so I can get on with my life."

One would think that when you were out of it you would be out of it...that was the general thought process anyhow and for the most part Carter had been save for the fire burning through every organ and nerve ending and the flashes of memories of a battle which had long since concluded with a dagger to the chest. Just the same he physically appeared to be out of it but mentally his body and mind seemed to be wagging a hell of a war on one another. Lilith's dagger had triggered something within the Nephilim side of him and it was literally burning through him like an out of control freight train. As the car continued towards the convent the radio was crackle in and out but for the most part stayed settled as the battle stayed within Carter's subconscious as long as he was held within the grasps of unconsciousness.
Somewhere along the way unconsciousness had faded to general weariness and his battered body had simply given up trying to wake and Carter stayed slumped silently in the passenger seat as the car pulled in front of the convent which had served as home for several years now. Though exhausted Carter's body was still rigid and on edge as the effects of the dagger sat waiting for the moment when his mind snapped into consciousness to slip out once more. There had been something unbeknownst to Carter and no doubt Lilith which had set off Carter's nephilim's powers.
Carter's entire body grew rigid and the air around him immediately sparkled with energy as he was snapped awake by Mercy's violent shaking. Still severely on edge and not thinking anywhere near clear. Carter's eyes snapped opened and they were clouded dark and he launched himself at Mercy sending them both tumbling out of the car and on to the ground several feet away from the ground Carter's hands firmly clenched around her throat as his entire body literally trembled with the power which was surging through it. Power which had literally blinded him from seeing anything but the threat which had presented itself in front of him.
The air around the snapped and crackled with fire send small flames licking against branches and grass and ass Carter's now dark hazel eyes drilled into Mercy there was a large groan of thunder and a groan from the car behind them which seconds later erupted in a ball of flames.

Mercy realised she probably should have been paying better attention to what was going on around her. The way the air around them was crackling with energy. If she had been paying better attention she might have been more gentle with trying to wake Carter up. Or at least have been prepared for him to leap at her, drag her to the ground and wrap his hands around her throat.
Gasping, trying to force air into her lungs, Mercy clawed at Carter's hands. Trying to pull them away from her throat. But Carter was too strong. And this was clearly not just normal Carter. Looking into his eyes, Mercy saw the Carter she'd only seen once before - right before he set an entire nest of vampires on fire.
She tried to shift into her wolf form, figuring the change would allow her to wriggle out of his grasp. But every time the wolf was about to make it to the surface, something pushed it back down. Mercy could only assume it was the abundance of nephilim energy currently surrounding them.
"C-Carter," she managed, still scraping her nails across the back of his hand. Behind him, her car burst into flames, the heat making it even harder to find breath. Tears fell from the corner of her eyes and whether they were from fear or just the general lack of oxygen making her eyes water, Mercy wasn't sure.
As the edge of her vision began to turn black, Mercy's hands dropped to her side, running out of strength to fight him off. She tried again to say something - anything - but all she managed was a choke.
The last thing Mercy wasnted right now was for Carter to kill her, but with her lungs burning, limbs tingling as they fell asleep from the lack of oxygen, all Mercy was really able to do was stare up at him, wishing that the last thing she saw didn't have to be those terrifying nephilim eyes.

A low growl sounded from somewhere in Carter's throat as his hands dug into the throat beneath his hands. Heath from the flames of the car licked at the back of his neck and he relished at the sensation of the warmth against his skin. The ground beneath them shoke ever so slightly as lighting cracked across the sky striking a nearby tree causing the old pine to burst into flames as Carter's hands tightened around the small throat beneath his hands.
A dark smile spread across his face as the hands slipped away from his own hands as the fight began to fade away from the body beneath his.
Carter's eyes clenched shut as a cry of pain fell from his lips as he lurched forward slightly his hands falling away from Mercy's throat and clenching into the grass on both sides of her. Carter's frame shielded Mercy as another explosion rocked what was left of the car sending shrapnel and car part raining down on them. His entire body trembled as rain began to pour down around them dousing the flames and the surrounding areas.
Carter had no idea what the fuck was going on save for the fact that one second he had been in the car staring down Mercy and the next he had been seconds away from snapping her fucking neck like a twig. His body felt as if it was seconds from combusting and he had to force himself to breath as he kept his eyes clenched shut.
"Fuck..." Carter whispered his voice shaking ever so slightly his hands still clenched into the earth on either side of Mercy's smaller frame.
"I..." attempting to open his eyes slightly Carter flinched slightly as a surge of agony burned through his chest and he sucked in a ragged breath as a large clap of thunder echoed through the sky causing the surronding area to shake around them.
"I...almost killed you..."
Carter's voice was low and he forced his eyes shut as another tremor tore through him causing his fingers to dig into the moist ground below them. He had no fucking clue what was going on but he was pretty sure for the first time in pretty much his entire life that this was why the angels had fuckign wanted him dead.

As Mercy was dragged further into unconsciousness, she appeared to lose the ability to feel anything at all, much less fear at being about to die. Which was a good thing, she would have thought (had she been able to), consdering the extremely frightening look Carter had on his face.
Mercy blacked out and, unmoving, waited to die.
A cry of pain from above her wrenched her awake and as Carter's hands fell away from her throat, Mercy gratefully accepted air into her lungs. It burned her throat and lungs to breathe, but she felt life returning to her arms and legs and saw her vision slowly grow clearer.
"Fuck..."
Mercy simply lay still, breathing slowly, watching the flames fall behind Carter, realising he had just blown up her goddam car. Along with everything inside it. Right now, though, she would focus on the fact that she was still alive. Stuffless or not, that was a big plus. She stayed silent, though, unsure if she even could speak, much less what she would say.
"I... I...almost killed you..."
Slowly lifting a hand to her throat, Mercy simply nodded. She glanced around her, taking notice of the fire, the thunder and lightning, the shaking... she realised that this is what the angels had meant by 'a threat to humanity'. Even unintentionally, Carter was capable of total destruction.
She'd hate to see what he could do on purpose.
A frown of concern crossed her face, seeing his face contort in pain, and she moved her hand from her throat to his shoulder, locking eyes with him.
"You need to rest," she managed to whisper.

Carter flinched back slightly as Mercy's hand connected with his shoulder. He opened his eyes open as he stared down at her his breathing labored and almost pained as his hands remained clenched into the ground beneath them. It seemed as if the entire fucking world was coming apart at the seams around them and Carter didn't know how in the hell to make it all stop.
"You need to rest."
Carter could feel the earth trembling beneath his hands as his entire body seemed to shudder with power that he didn't know the first thing to do with. It felt as if every single nerve ending in his body was about to explode and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. He had always been in control when it came to his powers...for the most part.
"Fucking knife...did something to me..." Carter's words where harshly whispered through clenched teeth as he forced his eyes shut in a vain attempt to calm himself down. He found that if he could focus on not blowing them u then perhaps it would give his mind something to do. Somewhere in the background a loud clap of thunder slammed through the sky and Carter flinched slightly his eyes clenching tighter as he forced himself to take as deep of a breath as was possible.
Sweat mixed with the rain which was now pouring from the sky slid down the side of Carter's face as he pulled in one shaky breath after another doing everything he could to keep some form of control. His hands were still tightly gripped into the wet earth beneath them as the trembling in the ground seemed to grow calm.

Mercy could see that Carter was clearly struggling to keep control of whatever was going on inside him. And that didn't strike her as a good thing. She doubted another display of destruction like Travis Town would allow him to keep his 3 weeks peace. And in his current state she didn't think he would survive an encounter with the angels. Not that she would be particularly empathetic to that situation considering she would more than likely be dead.
"Fucking knife...did something to me..."
It had appeared to do something other than nearly kill him. Or kill him. Or whatever had happened back there. If Mercy hadn't known better she would have though he was somehow supercharged. It certainly felt that way with the ground trembling, and the storm and the crackle of nephlim energy surrounding them.
But that couldn't be right. Could it?
Finally the earth stopped shaking quite so hard and Mercy watched Carter try to regain control. Slowly, Mercy eased herself out from under him, removing her hand from his shoulder to drag herself backwards with it. She pushed herself to her knees and pressed a hand to her throat that was beginning to feel rather bruised.
"Come on," she rasped. "Inside, bed. Maybe this is just leftover energy and you need to wait it out or something."

Carter barely registered the fact that Mercy had pulled herself out from under him as he continued to focus on breathing and not blowing a rather sizable hole in Louisiana. Forcing his breath out through clenched teeth Carter was relieved to feel the ground beneath grow completely still even if the storm still went on around them. Apparently this was a one battle at a fucking time sort of deal.
Carter was far too focused on not blowing anything else up that he took no notice of the stream of blood which snaked from his nose and dripped down to the ground below him.
"Come on, inside, bed. Maybe this is just leftover energy and you need to wait it out or something."
Carter heard Mercy; even through all the noise which he was almost certain was now mostly in his head as he took notice that the rain had slowed considerably as he continued to fight to pull each trembling breath into his lungs.
"Wait it out...or blow up the fucking house..." Carter managed to growl out as he pulled in a struggling breath.
Swallowing down the bile which was rising in his throat Carter forced his eyes open and was surprised to find Mercy standing above him. Carter forced himself from the ground on to legs which threatened to send him toppling back down to the ground. The air around them still literally crackled with the power which Carter was attempting to literally swallow down.
Brushing his hand absently under his nose and smearing blood slightly across his face Carter's face darkened slightly as he took note of the angry flesh of Mercy's neck.
That's right; he had gone fucking homicidal on her.
"You...need to go..." Carter managed to growl out as he staggered forward a sharp crack of lightening striking across the struggling to clear sky. His feet felt as if they weighed 100 pounds each as he staggered and stumbled towards the monistary. His head was literally swimming as he felt his skin burn from the inside. Reaching the steps Carter stumbled and found himself on his knees once more his hands and knees digging into the cold stone of the stairs as low growl of thunder whispered through the sky and Carter felt the warmth of blood slid from his ears.
This was really fucking inconvenient.
