"You're dead...I apologized for that already..."
Good. The dead girl was doing what she was supposed to. Distract Rowland, maybe freak him out a little. She didn't know if vampires could be freaked out by moving corpses... but reanimated dead people sure as hell freaked Maya out.
Maya watched Rowland closely as she noticed a change in him. He was calmer...ish than before. No longer filled with rage. Either he was that terrified of the talking former-meal, or it had shocked him enough to bring him back to his senses.
"I apologized,"
Well now he was just making her feel bad. Which Maya didn't quite understand considering she was the one bleeding from the neck and he was absolutely fine.
She leaned harder against the tree, eyelids slipping closed. She was running out of energy. While she had drawn energy from the earth to ranimate the corpse, it took her own energy to keep it going... and she wanted to use that to fix the gaping wound in the side of her neck.
"Maya..."
"Oh thank god," she whispered, taking that has a sign that it was safe to refocus her attentions. She slumped to the ground, the corpse dropping with her, and once again buried her fingers into the soil below her. There was healing energy in the ground... she just had to find it before she passed out.

Rowland frowned as he took note of Maya's current state. He could feel the energy it was taking for her to stay upright...he could hear her heart working double time to pump her blood...but he couldn't focus on that...it would end badly if he did.
"Oh thank god."
Rowland was not sure what God had to do with things at the present moment but he would never dare to take away the girls religion; he had been raised better then that.
Rowland made a start for the girl when he witnessed her slump to the ground but took several steps back as theliving corpse slumped to the ground once more. His eyes were wide with a fear that had developed far past the point of hiding. It were these moments in time; the ones he couldn't grab a hold of which he feared the most...and those feelings coupled with a not so dead girl who should very well have beend ead...very dead was becoming more then Rowland could wrap his mind around.
Rowland's eyes narrowed in confusion for th emoment the fear of the situation lost as he watched her hadns dig into the dirt; he truley had not a clue what she was doing aside from teh fact that the smell of her blood was everywhere...which would need to stop if 1- she wished to live and 2- if he wished not to kill her.
Quickly side stepping the once again un-moving corpse Rowland made his way towards Maya his hands raised in a form of surrender.
"I won't hurt...any further," He explained knowing very well that he was the cause of the wound upon her neck. He could still taste her.
His eyes searched around them looking for something he could use to help and he took note of the long...once white dress the girl had and looked at her bleeding neck once feeling a drew and he quickly made the choice to grip the fabric and tear it until a sufficent chunk of fabric was torn away.
"Sorry," he apologized as he held the white fabric against the wound on her neck and watched as it quickly turned red. He could feel her warm blood seeping through the fabric...feel it against his skin and he had to close his eyes had to focus on soemthing that was not the girls blood or he would no doubt be responsible for something they would both regret later.

"I won't hurt...any further,"
Well it wasn't like she was in any position to do anything about it if he did, but Maya appreciated the fact that he'd decided to stop. She had found the energy she needed, but it would take her some time to make it work for her the way she wanted it to. And she needed a way to stop the bleeding until then.
She heard a tearing noise and looked down to see Rowland ripping a large bit of her dress away. It took her a moment to realise what he was doing, but when he pressed it against the side of her neck, she decided he really was sincere about not hurting her anymore.
"Thank you," she said quietly, feeling a tingling sensation in her neck as the energy she was borrowing finally began to do it's thing. It was slow, and would take time... but she wouldn't be bleeding out any time soon which was a plus.
She examined Rowland closely, impressed at how close he was to so much blood without trying to eat her... again.
"I'm sorry," she said after a moment. He had known Mary Warren, which meant he'd been around during the hunts... no wonder he hated her. "For what she did... I'm sorry."

Rowland forced his eyes opened as he searched the star filled sky above them. He looked at the stars and at the trees as they attempted to cover the stars from view; he searched for bats or anything in the night sky...in honest he searched anywhere and everywhere for anything that was not Maya Warren. His life as a vampire had by no means been rondusive to being in control of what he was or being at all elegant as so many of his kind were in their process. Being that the girl was still bleeding and she was so close that he could taste her blood in the air he had to occupy his mind with ohter things.
"Thank you."
Rowland looked at the girl in confusion before averting his eyes to the fallen oak.
"Most people don't tend to thank someone who tried to kill them," Rowland pointed out a bit confused as to why Maya was thanking him moment before he had nearly murdered her. It would have been murder; he had eaten, the hunger in him satisfied so there had been no reason save for pure animalistic lust to go after her.
"Do you think you can stop bleeding soon..."
"I'm sorry. For what she did... I'm sorry."
Rowland nearly choked on his own words as the girl apologized. He knew immediately what she was apologizing for and he had no answer for her. He had known Mary Warren; in 1692 Salem Town was not the large city it was now. She was a young girl and had been around the town like so many of the other teenagers about town. He had not been what many would classify as a social boy growing up; he kept to himself and the friends he had were close and that was it. Killian though being his best friend tended to be friends with everyone so by life path alone he had known Mary Warren.
It had been Mary Warren who had cried witch in regards to Esther...which had turned towards Killian.
They had questioned Rowland when Killian had been held prisoner...questioned him over and over and over again to give them anything to use against his friend...his friend who refused to enter a plea. They couldn't accuse Killian of being a witch if he didn't plea...so they needed somebody to do it for him.
Rowland's own father had turned against him; pressuring him to give the Elders what they wanted. the problem was that Rowland had nothing to give them no matter how much they asked or how much his father beat him; he had not had the answers for them. Glancing down at his bare arm Rowland coould still see the light scars against the pale skin of his inner arm; the scars were a product of his "questioning." They had been a part of him when he had died and had traveled with him all this time through his new life...and here was Maya.
Maya a girl he had never seen in his entire life...and she was apologizing for the acts of another and whether she knew it or not that meant the world to Rowland.
"It was not your actions...but the apology is appreciated none the less," Rowland explained still unable to look at the bleeding girl but wanting to voice his appreciation just the same.

"Most people don't tend to thank someone who tried to kill them,"
"That's true," Maya said, forcing herself not to nod because she knew that would just end badly. "But then again, how many vampires stop to help the people they tried to kill?."
The tingling sensation in her neck increased and she jerked suddenly in surprise. The feeling of healing herself had never felt quite so intense before... then again she had never tried to heal herself of a giant vampire bite before. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, catching her bottom lip between her teeth. Alright, so maybe the wound difference was quite large, but this was just ridiculous.
"It was not your actions...but the apology is appreciated none the less,"
Maya opened her eyes and smiled the best she could. "Yeah, no probl-"
Her words were cut off by a cry of surprise as the tingling sensation suddenly became very painful and then stopped altogether. That was... odd. Maya raised a hand to the blood soaked piece of her dress and moved it away from her neck, wiping excess blood with it. Dropping the rag to the ground, she traced her fingers along her neck where there was now no wound at all. Interesting.
"Well that didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would," she said, looking at the woods around her with a sort of bewilderment. "These woods really are magic."

"Yeah, no probl-"
Rowland's eyes narrowed in concern as Maya suddenyl cried out in surprise and what he would have guessed to be a touch of pain. He had been doing his best to keep his focus away from the young girl whilst she was still bleeding but now she had his attention completely; as well as his concern.
"Are you ok?" Rowland asked ignoring the obvious that she had a rather alrge hole in her throat that did not belong there...thanks to him.
"Well that didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would."
Rowland looked in astonishment as the wound wich had seconds ago been gushing a great deal of blood from the girls neck was gone...completely. He had of course ssen magic before having lived Marisolla for some time now but this magic was different. Maya had done this without the use of potions of spells she had done this seemingly by the use of nothing but the earth alone.
"These woods really are magic."
"They are no doubt a bit...different. But I think the magic lays with you Maya Warren...what are you...exactly?" Rowland asked sitting back upon the ground as his eyes inspected the girl before him.
The afct that he stayed either within the walls of Marisolla's home or within the woods did him no great service as far as learning the world beyond that but he was surely learning a bit about the supernatural thanks to his maker and Maya was no doubt exceptional.
"You're exceptional."

"They are no doubt a bit...different. But I think the magic lays with you Maya Warren...what are you...exactly?"
Well that wasn't a question she'd ever heard before. Granted, Maya had never actually been caught out using her magic before by anyone other than her mother. She wasn't really sure how to answer.
"Uhh..." she said slowly, frowning as she thought. "Well... I guess the technical term is witch. But... I don't think that's quite it either... we'll just go with that for now though."
Maya pulled her neck to the side, stretching it slightly. It was tender, like she'd pulled a muscle, but otherwise undamaged. Well that was a plus... she would tell her mother about that later.
"You're exceptional."
Turning back to face him, Maya had to smile. "And you're a sweetheart," she said, slowly pushing herself to her feet and leaning against the tree. "Are all vampires like you?"

Rowland sat back as he inspected Maya; he had not experienced someone like her before. Not in the woods at least. He glanced back slightly to ensure that the dead girl was still indeed dead...that had been slightly un-nerving and he was still not certain if that had been Maya or if it had been the dead...not being so dead in the long run.
"Uhh...Well... I guess the technical term is witch. But... I don't think that's quite it either... we'll just go with that for now though."
"A witch..." Rowland repeated the word after her. That was a bit unexpected especially considering her family line. Where-ever Mary Warren was Rowland would bet that she was spinniing about her grave.
"I am not so sure your ancestor would be pleased with that revelation," Rowland replied as he all too well remembered Mary's stance on witchcraft and those who practiced it. It was odd really how something which was several lifetimes ago could feel as if it was yesterday.
Rowland watched carefully as the girl srectched her neck and her perfect undamaged skin shown beneath the moon light.
"And you're a sweetheart, are all vampires like you?"
Rowland continued to watch ehr carefully as she pulled herself to her feet and leaned against the tree; she was the girl in the trees once more.
"I tried to kill you," Rowland pointed out as he glanced up at her from his spot on the ground not wanting Maya to forgive the fact so easily. Had it not been for the intervention of the dead Maya Warren would be dead upon the ground like so many others.
"I'm not entirely sure about others though as I have only met one other vampire in my time," Rowland explained picking at the leaves beneath him; apprently it was a bad thing that he had not experienced the world beyond the woods of Salem...but it was rather large and Rowland had no place in it...not really...not any longer.

"I am not so sure your ancestor would be pleased with that revelation,"
Maya shrugged. "Mary was a witch too, you know," she told him. "She didn't know it for a while, an when she figured it out she changed her tune very suddenly... but you're probably right... I don't think she ever loved the craft... or would like that it had carried on through her line."
Maya looked down at ther dress, noting the neckline had turned a dark red from her blood. She wondered if she could maybe pass it off as wine and get the dress into the wash before her mother noticed it was blood... but she doubted it. Crap.
"I tried to kill you,"
"But you didn't," she reminded him. Her eyes darted breifly towards the dead girls body on the other side of the fallen oak and she had to admit to herself that she was lucky he hadn't killed her. But that didn't change the fact that she was still standing.
"I'm not entirely sure about others though as I have only met one other vampire in my time,"
For some reason, that thought surprised Maya. "Only one?" she asked. "So... there're only two vampires in Salem?"

"Mary was a witch too, you know. She didn't know it for a while, an when she figured it out she changed her tune very suddenly... but you're probably right... I don't think she ever loved the craft... or would like that it had carried on through her line."
Rowland stared at Maya curiously. Marry Warren had been a witch? That was rather...unexpected.
"That must have happened after I died," Rowland explained pulling himself from the ground and attempting to brush the dirt from his pants....he was a mess! There was dirt and leaves and tears all through his dress pants. He had managed to not get blood on himself but apprently he looked as if he had been rolling in the dirt...that was going to go over well.
Rowland took note of the glance Maya casted towards the now once again still corpse. He wished that he had the baility to read the girls thoughts; to know what she thought of him...he hoped she did not think him a monster but in truth there was really no way to argue with her.
"I apologized to her...though I hardly think it is comforting as far as she is concerned," Rowland explained with a small shrug. There was apprently ways to feed from humans without killing them...Rowland had yet to develop that bit of tact as far as his feeding went.
"Only one? So... there're only two vampires in Salem?"
Rowland's attention snapped back to Maya and he studeied her face once more before answering.
"Not entirely certain; it's been over 300 years since I went into Salem. I stick to the woods...the woods and the house," Rowland explained vainly attempting to get the dirt off of his shirt.
Marisolla was going to pitch a fit when she saw him.

"That must have happened after I died,"
Maya hesitated, taken slightly off guard by the casual mention of his not-so-permanent death. Seriously, what exactly could you say to that?
"Mmm," she said, nodding in agreement. "Must've..." That was alright... right?
"I apologized to her...though I hardly think it is comforting as far as she is concerned,"
"I dunno," Maya said, returning her gaze to the dead girl. "She might've appreciated it. Wherever she is now she may be thinking 'oh hey, well, at least he's fed and he's thankful for it'..." okay now she wasn't making any sense... ah well... she'd tried.
"Not entirely certain; it's been over 300 years since I went into Salem. I stick to the woods...the woods and the house,"
She watched him for a moment as he tried to brush the dirt off his shirt before sighing and stepping towards him. "Come here," she muttered, reaching out to help him brush the dirt away and straighten up his shirt. It didn't make a whole lot of difference, but it wasn't too bad.
"And you should explore more," she told him. "I'll bet Salem's changed a bit since you last saw it...you might enjoy yourself."

"I dunno, she might've appreciated it. Wherever she is now she may be thinking 'oh hey, well, at least he's fed and he's thankful for it'..."
Rowland stared back at the girl with a bemused look upon his face that was a rather colorful way to look at things; though he was rather certain the dead girl was more comfortable cursing his name then relishing in the fact that she was dead and he was fed...that just seemed off in many ways.
"That is an interesting view point...would you have been pleased if I had killed you?" Rowland asked looking quizzically back at the girl. This was most certainly new territory for him; he didn't speak to humans...or well not for very long anyways.
"Come here."
Rowland snapped his gaze away from his shirt back to the girl as she took steps towards him; her hand brushing away at the dirt on his shirt. He had immediately snapped on guard; he was a vampire after all and had never ran into somebody who was all too willing to help him and Marisolla tended to press survival upon him since even though his age did not reflect it he was about as good of use to her as a newborn vampire would be.
Rowland examined her handy work and his shirt looked a bit better then it had before; but he would still be screwed no doubt by Marisolla standards.
"Thank you," he replied his eyes searching over her carefully....this was all very very strange.
"And you should explore more, I'll bet Salem's changed a bit since you last saw it...you might enjoy yourself."
"Indeed it has," Rowland agreed as he looked around the woods. Even the area he stuck to had changed over the years but he hadn't been to Salem; not since the afternoon he left to walk about the woods...and was killed. Now it seemed as if he didn't tend to do so well around people so in order to avoid the town of Salem being slaughtered he sticked to the woods and to the house.
"I've stayed here since I died here," Rowland explained as he made his way back to the edge of the river.
"I came into the woods...which was not recommended back then either...and my maker likes to say I never came out again... You see Maya I tend not to do well with humans...who are still breathing," Rowland explained his eyes meeting hers once more before glancing down at the dead girl's body. He would need to dispose of her soon.

"That is an interesting view point...would you have been pleased if I had killed you?"
Maya tilted her head to the side thoughtfully before sighing and shaking her head. "No... probably not... then again, you weren't trying to kill me for food, were you?"
Thinking about it, Maya probably would not have been very happy about being dead... hence why she had fought so hard to stay alive. In fact, being killed because she'd been mistaken for an ancestor she didn't even liked would probably have pissed her off more than anything else. But that didn't matter, as she wasn't dead, so it didn't need dwelling on.
"Thank you,"
"No problem," she said, narrowing her eyes at the shirt... and then at his pants. "You'll probably still need a new... outfit... yeah... a whole new outfit."
She attempted to brush a little bit more dirt off of his shirt but to no avail... eventually she dropped her hands to her sides and watched him as he moved back towards the river.
"I've stayed here since I died here... I came into the woods...which was not recommended back then either...and my maker likes to say I never came out again... You see Maya I tend not to do well with humans...who are still breathing,"
"You're doing alright with me," she pointed out, forcing herself not to follow his gaze towards the dead girl. "And I'm sure it's never too late to learn how to feed without killing... unless you like the killing bit in which case... well... who am I to stop you?"

"No... probably not... then again, you weren't trying to kill me for food, were you?"
Rowland forced his gaze away from the deceased girl and allowed Maya to fill his vision. She seemed able to keep the shadows at bay which was a nice change of pace all things considered.
"No. I wished to kill you to see you suffer," Rowland explained matter of factly.
He frowned slightly as he realized his words were more then likely not very well delivered.
"I don't want you to be afraid of me," Rowland explained as he took several steps till he was standing before Maya once more.
"But you should know at times I am not exactly...myself," Rowland explained.
He realized he had never truley discussed this with anyone aside from Marisolla but then again those around him who were not his maker did not tend to last long so the fact he had nobody to speak with was not entirely surprising.
"I was alone when I changed and I stayed as such for 300 years. In these woods with nothing but the dead and blood to accompany me. These events you could say...fractured me ever so slightly...and at times I have a rather poor sense of control," Rowland explained forcing himself to keep his blue eyes drilled back into Maya's.
"You're doing alright with me. And I'm sure it's never too late to learn how to feed without killing... unless you like the killing bit in which case... well... who am I to stop you?"
"You're different," Rowland explained eyeing the girl curiously as he realized with each passing moment that she was extremley different.
"I am not entirely certain what it is about you but you are most certainly the oddest girl I have ever had the company of keeping," Rowland explained with a hint of a smile as he reached out and gently plucked a leaf from the girls hair and allowed it to fall to the ground.

"No. I wished to kill you to see you suffer,"
Maya just blinked. While not exactly the most comforting thing to hear from someone, she had already known that fact so it wasn't totally surprising. The fact that he was being honest about it, actually, was the most surprising thing.
"I don't want you to be afraid of me,"
"I'm not afraid of you," she told him honestly as he stepped towards her. She had been at first, but now... not so much afraid as curious... and maybe cautious... but definitely not afraid.
"But you should know at times I am not exactly...myself,"
Maya wasn't entirely sure what to say to that... so she said nothing and waited for him to explain himself or just to move on.
"I was alone when I changed and I stayed as such for 300 years. In these woods with nothing but the dead and blood to accompany me. These events you could say...fractured me ever so slightly...and at times I have a rather poor sense of control,"
Gently, Maya reached out and touched the side of Rowland's face, smiling at him sadly. "That must have been very lonely," was all she could think to say, and was finding it very difficult to keep herself from wrapping her arms around him and hugging him tightly.
"You're different,"
"Am I?" she asked, one eye brow raised.
"I am not entirely certain what it is about you but you are most certainly the oddest girl I have ever had the company of keeping,"
Tilting her head to the side slightly, Maya smiled. "I'm going to go ahead and say thank you, and hope you meant that as a compliment."
