History:
Alice was abandoned mere hours after her birth at the foot of an orphanage that became her home for the rest of her childhood. She nor the orphanage had any clue as to who her parents were so Alice never found out if she had been abandoned because her family didn't want her, or because the couldn't keep her, or because they were dead and a friend or passing by stander did the only thing he could. And Alice didn't mind. Not knowing suited her just fine. Not knowing made it easier.
She didn't have many friends, growing up in the orphanage. She wasn't entirely sure why but she suspected it was her tendency to talk to people no body else seemed able to see. For the longest time, Alice couldn't figure out why nobody else could see the large number of people wanting to talk to her. But eventually Alice realised speaking to the dead wasn't a common trick and she stopped talking about it. She also stopped talking about her dreams that almost always came true. It seemed to scare the other children when she told them she could see into their future.
Alice did have one friend though. A boy named Brickston Harbenger, though she fondly called him Brick. She didn't talk about her abilities and he didn't ask and that was how it went. No body got creeped out and everyone was happy. She envied his last name and had often tried to make one up for herself but eventually gave up and let herself just be Alice. Even as a small child, she secretly wished that one day she would marry Brick and they would share a last name. But she never told him this of course. Not even when he told her he loved her and, when she too was old enough, took her away so they could live their life together.
It wasn't a bad life either. She dealt cards at the Paris Casino, he scammed people out of whatever he could. They got by. Not that Alice entirely approved of his methods. His antics amused her when they were children but as adults they seemed... a little wrong. Not that it made her love him any less, and she never stopped him. It was what he was good at, and who was she to stop him from doing that?
One day, of course, Brick scammed the wrong... beings... and a mess load of demons somehow discovered Alice's abilities. No matter how hard she had tried to suppress them over the years. They came home only to find their hotel room filled with demons. One in particular, a yellow eyed demon, seemed to be in charge and he had his followers take Alice away after first getting Brick out of the way. Alice was distraught for quite sometime, never knowing whether or not Brick had lived.
The yellow eyed demon was apparently known as Azazel, and he never told Alice what he wanted her for. He told her his plans for the world. What he was trying to do with his 'special' children. The story of Lucifer and how the whole escapade began. But he never mentioned why he had taken her, and when he was killed by a hunter only a few years ago now, Alice was simply freed, no questions asked. It was strange but Alice didn't ask. Her first and only thought was to find Brick. To be with him again. However, she stopped herself. It had been years since she had seen him, and she knew that now most of the demons knew what she could do it was only a matter of time before a wannabe-Azazel came looking for her. If Brick was still alive, she couldn't allow anything to harm him. If she went to see him, she'd never be able to leave him. If she found him only to check up on him she wouldn't be able to keep herself from speaking to him. And even if she could there was no guaranteeing some hell-spawn wouldn't follow her and discover her weakness. Her only choice was to disappear, even though it broke her heart to do it. And so she did, burying herself deep, exploiting her abilities to make a little money here and there.
Everyday she fights with herself about going to look for Brick. She let herself find out if he was still living, and he didn't seem to have a death certificate and no John Does at the hospital fit his description. Alice decided he was alive but other than that he too seemed to have gone off the grid. Good. If he was there he was safe. She finds it hard staying away from him when every face she sees is his at first glance. The only way to keep herself distracted is by allowing her abilities to take over, which she has done, and focusing on the dead and the future 24/7.
