History:
Samantha was born in Steventon, Hapmshire, as Tabitha Reynolds, in 1777. This was a time when women did not speak unless spoken too, and were shown off at balls by their parents in order to attract a suitable, preferably rich, husband. It was also a time when women didn't mind this treatment. Tabitha, on the other hand, though always polite and did what she was told, knew that only the deepest love could drag her into marriage.
That was not to say she didn't enjoy balls. She was witty, and lively, and made an effort to help others enjoy themselves. But in truth she was bored with Steventon. It was too small for her liking and Tabitha wanted to see more of the world. Especially before she was forced to marry and stuck in Steventon for the rest of her life.
Her closest friend was a woman named Jane Austen who Tabitha admired for her creativity and intelligence. Jane, a couple of years older than Tabitha, was a writer, and Tabitha loved reading what ever it was Jane had written that day. Jane herself admired Tabitha for her unwillingness to be held back. In fact, for a long time, Jane considered basing one of her characters on her head strong young friend.
When she was 19, Tabitha was dancing at a ball, under the watchful eye of both of her parents, and found herself dancing with a man she had never met before. He called himself Charles and he was certainly far more interesting than any of the men she already knew.
She didn't see him after that though, until several months later when he reappeared, this time with a friend who's name was Thomas, and revealed himself to be something she hadn't even dreamed existed. Vampires, supposedly, were immortal creatures who lived on human blood. Charles gave Tabitha the option of joining him and, despite this less than pleasant description, she agreed. She left Steventon after that, technically being dead. Her friend Jane, in honour of her passing created a character named Elizabeth Bennet that shared some of Tabitha's qualities.
As soon as she could, which was quite some time later, Tabitha moved to America, and changed her name to Samantha McBaine. Forever putting her life as Tabitha Reynolds behind her.
Specifically, she moved to New York City, having heard of it's glamour often and dreaming of being a part of it. She wasn't disappointed either. New York was everything she'd hoped it would be and she decided to add to the glamour. At least for the vampiric community. Using her own money, and some borrowed from Charles which she fully intended to pay back, Samantha bought herself a venue and set about creating Drop by Drop, a night club for vampires only. Her main two rules inside were No Fighting, and most certainly No Killing. Vampire or Human. Which meant no bringing in human snacks to share around.
In 2007, Samantha discovered a human boy and a cat hiding out on the doorstep of her club. Not wanting to leave him out in the cold, and extremely curious as to how the boy, known as Matt, had come to be on her door step, she brought him inside to get him warmed up and fed. Later on in the night, several of her bar patrons, unhappy with a human in their midst, decided to solve the problem by trying to kill Matt. Samantha disapproved, to say the least, and claimed him, with Charles' age and power as back up, so that no other vampires could harm the boy without extreme consequences. He now lives with her in her Manhattan Apartment (and so does the cat).
Samantha, though a vampire and therefore automatically placed into certain stereotypes, is kind-hearted and loyal. She has a small fetish for high fashion and up to date technology which is one of the many reasons she adores her club and the abundant wads of cash it brings in. She also enjoys lying in the moonlight with a Jane Austen novel and Dvořák playing in the background. There is nothing quite like nostalgia. And nothing quite like Dvořák (she would know, having met him. She couldn't understand a single word he said but that didn't make his music any less fantastic).
