Name: Peter of Sussex but now goes by Charles Moriarty.
Alias: (To a certain few: Pierre, Peter of Sussex or Peter of Arundel, Peter)
Charles Beaumont or Chaz
Age: appears to be about 30; turned in 1371 so really 668
Birth Date: April 23, 1341
Birth Place: Sussex, England
Species: Vampire
Appearence: (picture)
Family: His true blood family is long since been ashes. Now his family consists of his two vampire offspring, Emory and Samantha along with Sam's little pet (a human) named Matthew.
Special Abilities:
• Abnormal Strength
• Extremely Intelligent
• Quick with the tongue
• Abnormal Speed
• Nose Senses
• Super-human Hearing
• Stalking
• Can manipulated humans mentally and physically
Weapons of Choice: n/a
Status: (demon hunter, witch, demon, etc) vampire
Weakness: Peter has been around long enough to know that one must not have many weaknesses; and if one does, they hide them. His main weakness would be his childe Tabitha (now Samantha). She is his favorite pet. He tries to stay in France away from where she has made home in England but always manages to wind up over there for a visit. He has one other strong weakness. Even as a sometimes ill treated human Peter has always had a fondness for others. When he turned into a vampire, his fondness for the fragile humans did not diminish. As a result he does not kill unless he has to. His fondness for humans will probably get him into trouble one day; but he'll deal with it when it comes. For now he is content with how his...for lack of a better word, life, is. The old sun and being impaled via his ribcage also cause a spot of bother. Holy Water tends to simply piss him off.
Personality:
Most of the time, Peter makes out to be a pretty nice guy. In the vampire community he is what is considered a neutral. He knows to keep his nose clean from everyone else’s little feuds and has even ended up calmly mediating. He is careful in who he trusts and does his best not to form attachments to others of his kind. He can normally be found with a book or quill (yes, quill) in hand. He has a love for literature, history, music, and French. He is known as a fair ‘man’ among vampires and the few mortals he does business with. When he has company of the undead variety he does not allow his company to kill while at his home. He does not see the humor in sporting with ones food. This may be because of the way he was turned, which he does not speak of.
History:
The man once known as Peter of Sussex was born on the 23rd day of the month of April, year of our lord, 1341. He was born during the black death time period (1347-51). Peter was 6 when it started. Thankfully he did not lose many close to him.
As Peter got older he gained employment at Arundel Castle. Arundel Castle was forfeited from the FitzAllen's in 1326 before being restored in 1331 to Richard (the second Richard of the FitzAllen line). Peter was an errand boy for the castle before the owner, Richard FitzAllen, took a liking to his witty banter and polite manners.
(Richard FitzAlan was the eldest son of Edmund FitzAlan, 9th Earl of Arundel (8th Earl of Arundel per Ancestral Roots), and Alice de Warenne. He was born 1306 in Sussex, England and died 24 January 1376 in Sussex, England.
Richard FitzAllen was a very important man. He was an English nobleman and medieval military leader. He reacquired the Earldom of Arundel as well as the great estates his father had held in Sussex and in the Welsh Marches. Beyond this, in 1334 he was made Justiciar of North Wales (later his term in this office was made for life), Sheriff for life of Caernarvonshire, and Governor of Caernarfon Castle. He was one of the most trusted supporters of Edward the Black Prince in Wales.
His wife was Eleanor of Lancaster who was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Philippa when she was married to her first husband, who she had two children with, before he died in tournament. She then married Richard FitzAlan, 10th Earl of Arundel. They married in 1344 when Peter was 3. )
Peter was older than any of Richard’s sons by his second wife. (The son and daughter of his first wife were bastardized when the marriage was annulled. They did not stay at Arundel.) When Peter was old enough Richard asked the young man to become one of the castle’s voice heralds. Richard’s grandfather had held tournaments at Arundel Castle and Richard continued to tradition.
Voice heralds fall into two major categories: duty and field, and court. "Duty and field" are considered to be one category, although some heralds specialize in one or the other; Peter started out very early specializing as a "duty herald" when he reached his late teens. "Duty" heralds are the ones who go around making announcements at events. To do this a person must have good voice control, good diction, and the willingness to walk a lot (some events are very large). Peter was always seen running about and was well liked by many. The owners of the castle eventually moved him up to the status of Field herald. Peter had always held a high fascination for the games and was estatic.
"Field" heralds are the ones who stand on the tournament field ("The Eric") and announce the fighters, the fighters who should be ready to walk onto the field, and the fighters who should be getting ready to fight. They also announce the victors for the matches.
Peter was so well liked that when the tournaments would close he was asked to work as a court herald. "Court" heralds are those who help make court go, make the royalty look good, and take care of the business needed for court. Court Heralds must have good voice control, good diction, the ability to exercise these for an extended period of time, and the stamina to stand for an equally long time. Having already worked as a duty herald Peter was well-schooled in the art of time management and worked hard.
This continued well into Peter’s twenties. With his good status in court and the castle Peter made sure to keep his nose out of trouble. Soon after turning thirty the current Earl of Arundel was sixty-five. After a particularly enjoyable feast Peter found himself wandering about with a visiting servant girl named Alice. They had been seen together a few times throughout the tournament and Peter found he was rather fond of her.
At this part of the story, Peter likes to refer to himself as an idiot.
However, the idiot did not think on how he only met his dear Alice at night when she escorted her lady to the evening meals and eventually the last night feast. The idiot did not realize why she looked so pale in her servants’ dresses. It was not because of a small cold as she had said, or a chill.
The closing night of the tournament the idiot got to see Alice for who she really was; a vampire. She turned him that night. He admits to not remembering much about his actual turning. He remembers the peacefulness of the forest around the castle, where the two had scampered off to. He remembers his voice already being a touch sour from all the shouting he’d done over the past week. And he remembered pain.
When Peter awoke he found himself buried alive…or rather, undead. Digging his way out of his grave Alice appeared and began to show him his new life. Angry at her for ruining his old one, Peter flew into a rage and left her soon after. He has not laid eyes on her since that night. He has heard rumors of her existence since then but has not sought her out.
His former master, FitzAlan refused to take it easy as he got older and continued to hold tournaments and such until his death in 1376 when Peter would have been 35. He watched from afar as his father figure withered away into a corpse.
Soon after his change Charles changed his name to Charles Beaumont. In 1478 he got a hold of Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales".
Sometime during the 1500s he moved to Brighthelmstone (Brighton) for a time before it was burned to the ground during a French and English war in 1514 His love of the French language slightly diminished due to this for a time.
In 1536 the King's illegitamate son, Henry Fitzroy passed away. It was a few days after this that Charles came across Thomas Parr. Thomas was the young man's tutor along with friend, being less than 10 years older than the almost-royal. Overcome with grief over the death of his closest friend and student Thomas, unmarried, needed a new cause for life. Unable to find one in his condition he eventually was turned by Charles who saw him closer to death than life.
The next few hundred years were a bit of a blur to Charles as he wandered about Europe. He debated journeying to the New World but stayed put. Thomas was a constant companion at most times. In his new-found life Thomas was probably the reason the word 'womanizer' came into being.
In 1796 while attending a ball in Steventon he spotted a young woman by the name of Tabitha Reynolds. For the next few months he watched her and got to know her through various functions before finally turning her much to Thomas' chagrin.
Charles changed his last name to Moriarty in 1917 after reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's book "The Last Bow" (A Sherlock Holmes novel). The looks he received when checking into places after his name change made it well worth it and always caused a smile at the popularity of the book series.
For the last two hundred years he spends his time either with Samantha(formerly Tabitha) and Emory (formerly Thomas) in America or in one of his homes in Europe. When visiting he shows a particular interest in Sam's 'pet'(Matthew) as he likes to call him. Peter has a fondness for humans but only lets that show when he is alone or with Sam and 'the boy'.
He claims he doesn't like having the human around because he could endanger Samantha but he always remembers to bring something with him as a gift for Matt causing Sam to know better.
Charles gets along well with those he sired. Though he may get angry with Emory at times for his behavior he is good at showing up to bail his younger charge out along with helping Samantha when she finds herself in trouble such as in the case of saving Matt's life.
