Status: (demon hunter, witch, demon, etc) Vampire
History:
Karl Ballard was born Marius Argyros in Rome, Italy to an incredibly poor family. In order to pay for his family's debts, he sold himself to the local Gladiator school at age 19, his plan being to win enough fights to earn back his freedom and enough money to not only pay off the debts, but give his family the comfortable life he felt they deserved. It wasn't until his mid twenties that his trainer deemed him able enough to fight in the arena. Fighting hard, aware that his life was on the line, he won his first match to the loud applause of the crowd and had to kill his opponent.
He continued to fight well for a couple of years until disaster struck. Though usually any wounds he suffered were easily fixed, having access to the best medical proffessionals in the Roman Empire, during one fight, the wounds he sustained were internal and as such, impossible to be healed at the time. The doctors did what they could to make him comfortable then left him in his room to die. It was then that a man, a noble he had seen often in the stands on the shadier days, came to him and told him he fought bravely, and if he wished it, he would be granted a new life. Delarious from pain and blood loss, and not wanting to die, he agreed to anything the noble wanted. He awoke the next day healed, strong, and dead.
The noble took him away and taught him all the things he would need to know as a vampire. Laws, strengths, weaknesses, and after a few years of teaching, he disappeared, leaving him to decide his own fate. He travelled the world, changing names, jobs, whatever necessary to fit in with the time or the place. He liked to stay in places for as long as possible before it became hard to explain his lack of ageing, then he would move on to find a new home.
Karl regrets very little in his life. He finds that his life is so long, that regrets would only lead him to depression if he dwelled on them. And he dwelled on enough. One thing he did regret, was his one and only siring attempt. Alyssa was a beautiful young woman, and he had wanted her almost as soon as he had seen her. His regret is not his choice of proginy, it is his failure as a sire. As soon as he was able, he sired her but, as he was preparing to move her so somewhere more secluded, a nest of vampires who had made their home in the area fell upon him and he was captured trying to keep her presence unknown to them. In this he succeeded at least. But when he managed to escape, she was gone and her family murdered, and by the time he had found her, it was too late to make his presence known to her as he knew she would never forgive him for what he had caused her to do.
He did, however, keep an eye on her as best he could. Moving every decade or so to where she was, to check up on her from a distance. He stayed in these places longer than she did, not having the same taste for travel as she did. But he made an effort to always know what she was up to and to be in a position to help her should the need arise.
