Alexis absolutely hated being away from her business. If she did need to get away, she closed down. Leaving someone else in charge was not an option. Alexis had never done well with hiring outsiders. She just didn't trust her livilihood to them. Now, to be on the opposite side of an ocean from her store was the ultimate in nightmares.
In truth, she knew she was doing the right thing. She needed to talk to Ryden Compton in order to get this mess which Marisolla Ledeara had decided to pitch onto them undone. And Killian was a good kid-she knew what much. If it was safe to leave anyone in charge, it had to be him. But that didn't negate her need to call.
Alexis picked up the phone beside the bed in her hotel room. She wasn't used to using a phone which actually had a cord attached to it. It had become a habit to use cell phones or cordless. But she'd have to make due.
She punched in the two dozen international calling card numbers numbers followed by Killian's cell phone number before the phone began ringing. If he didn't pick up, she'd go with her gut feeling that the store had burned down and she might as well stay in London.

Killian had been more then happy to help out Alexis when she asked him to keep an eye on the store especially since she had given him a place to call home without asking for much in return. And of course he had no real desire to go on another vampire "meeting" since the last one had ended so badly for him.
Had he been taking this on without being cursed he was rather certain he would have been able to handle it but after 1 black eye...a broken front window...and fractured finger...a burned couch and a few threats of legal action Killian had realized running the shop was long past being classified as an epic fail.
The shop was for the moment silent but Killian was rather certain that was because of the closed sign that hung on the door that he was currently glaring at. He was terrified to flip it over.
The scream of his cell phone ringing sliced through the silence and Killian jerked up and off of the seat and picked the phone up. He stared down at the screen not recognizing the number but answering it just the same.
"Pizza Hut how can I help you?" Killian muttered as he answered the phone and slumped back down to the chair glaring at the still locked door.

Alexis had been winding the phone cord around her wrist. She wasn't used to being stuck in one spot and not being able to pace was killing her.
"Pizza Hut how can I help you?"
She recognized Killian's voice-and his sense of humor-immediately. Well, at least he was alive and able to answer the phone. If the store had burned down or he'd been arrested, this would probably be more difficult.
"Cute." She grumbled. "It's Alexis." She moved the phone's base from the nightstand to the bed so she had a bit more room to move and stood up.
"What's going on? How are things? Any problems?"

"It's Alexis."
Killian felt his heart drop slightly as he realized it was Alexis on the other end of the phone and he immeidately felt bad for it. She had left him in charge of her shop and Killian didn't have to guess very hard about that being a rather big deal and Killian had managed to royally screw it up...though the store was still technically standing...though that wasn't saying much.
"Oh hey it's the world traveler," Killian replied attempting to keep his tone as even as possible as he watched a woman pull at the door handle...stare through the window...and then thankfully walk away.
Killian shuffeled behind the wall of the hallway out of sight of the door and ended up crashing to the floor as he utterly missed the chair leg which was there. He bit back a slew of curses that threatened to fall from him as his fractured finger slammed against the ground in an attempt to break his fall.
"I'm good...ok...excellent...how are you?" Killian responded quickly as he fumbeled for the phone which had landed next to him on the ground at least.
"What's going on? How are things? Any problems?"
...Well that was a loaded question.
"Things are um...they're good...functioning...interesting...there we go things are interesting," Killian explained figuring that was a good enough answer without requiring him to lie...entirely.
"Any problems?"
Now that was the loaded part of the question.
"Problems...why would there be problems?...The stores still standing," Killian expalined with a snap call of topic.
"For now..." He inwardly thought to himself.

Alexis was not sure she liked Killian's tone of voice when he realized it was her. She didn't press the subject, but it did not make her nerves any better.
"Fine, aside from the fact that my luggage didn't bother to show up in London, and it still hasn't made it." Alexis untangled herself from the phone cord and started playing with her hair instead.
"What was-." Nevermind, she cut herself off. She probably didn't want to know. "Wait, did you say functioning? And interesting? What do you mean interesting? Gardener didn't show up again, did he?"
Alexis felt a little sick. This conversation was not really making her feel any better.
"You haven't been dead again recently, have you?"

"Wait, did you say functioning? And interesting? What do you mean interesting? Gardener didn't show up again, did he?"
"No trust me if he had things wouldn;t be functioning and for the moment I have managed to avoid dying...though I do have a few things to tell you..." Killian explaiend his words trailing off slightly.
The days Alexis had been gone had been an epic disaster there was really no other way to put it and there was surely no way to lighten it all.
"Ok fyi I obviously haven;t mastered the art of answering the "does this dress make me look fat?" question since I have the black eye to prove it...a woman set what I am assuming to be a very expensive couch on fire...the store didn't burn down though so that is a plus...and just out of morbid curiosity though I know the answer already..." Killian went on pulling himself up from the floor and climbing the stairs deciding to veto opening the store at all today...hiding was a better pass time.
"...You don't happen to go by the name of Lex London correct?...Cause if you do...and if you borrowd 50 grand from the mafia they are looking for it back...I tried to tell them it was a mistake and they clarified their point...by BREAKING MY FINGER!" Killian snapped reaching the top of the stairs and sitting down on one of the couches.
"A few customers may sue for God know swhat reason...I haven't manage to sell a damn thing but on the plus side the shop still stands...I have managed not to die and our luck is stillas bad as ever...so tell me Alexis how is London?" Killian ask the faintest hint of bitterness in his tone.

Nononononononononononono!!!!!!!!!!!
Alexis let herself fall across the bed. Covering her eyes with the hand which was not holding the phone, she groaned. This was a nightmare. An absolute, complete and total nightmare.
"Oh for fck's sake." She groaned, letting the receiver fall momentarily out of her hand. If she ever saw her shop in one piece again, it would be a miracle.
"Look, don't even open the store then. Keep it closed. Did anyone else come by? A man named Clinton? Jon Brunner? Anyone who actually knew me-personally?"
She didn't want to know. With the way their luck was going, if either had they'd probably been sucked way when the floor had randomly turned into quicksand.
"Gardener was right about one thing-Marisolla's ex husband is very reasonable. I think he's going to help us-at least he offered to anyway. Assuming my luck doesn't go completely downhill and he wants a hand as payment."
Alexis hoped that Ryden Compton would just take a check for $50,000 as a fee for helping them out. If he wanted anything other than that, she was willing to take her chances with Marisolla herself.
"Look, there's some credit cards in a drawer in the kitchen-emergency only. Just use one and book yourself a flight over here. There might be safety in numbers."

Killian thought for a moment as Alexis asked if anyone who had actually known her had stopped by...not including the mob.
"No your frind the Godfather and is firends were the only ones whos topped by that claimed to actually know you...and no the boyfriend of yours who likes to hold guns on me didn;t stop by...which is probably a good thing considering my luck the friggin thing would have gone off," Killian muttered as he kicked at the carpet beneath his shoes.
"...I wasn't gonna open it any more...your lucky I dodn;t put a sign up saying owner is dead come back...never."
Killian listened carefully as Alexis explained about the vampire she had gone over there to see in the first place.
"At least 1 thing is going right."
"Look, there's some credit cards in a drawer in the kitchen-emergency only. Just use one and book yourself a flight over here. There might be safety in numbers."
Killian couldn;t help the laugh that fell from him as Alexis suggested he get on a plane...and go across the ocean...and meet with another vampire especially since the last time had gone so smashingly well.
"Hm...as tempting as dying in a plane crash, drowning, or being dinner for your new vampire friend would be I am thinking I am not moving from upstairs until your back," Killian paused for a momet.
"You are coming back right?" Killian asked hoping the answer would be "yes" and "soon" but with his luck she was off to Fiji with her new friend.

Alexis hadn't really expected Jon to have come by, or even called. She certainly hadn't heard from him. She felt an ice cold feeling settle into her stomach. She wasn't stupid. She knew that the only reason why you stayed away from someone you loved so long as because you physically couldn't, or because you were intentionally avoiding them.
"He isn't my boyfriend." The words left her mouth and she meant them before she even realized it. "Anyway, if you feel brave enough to go downstairs, stick a sign on the window saying that I'm on vacation and to call before you stop by."
She idly picked at the hem of the blanket beneath her. The worst thing in this planet was Marisolla having ever walked into her life. She was going to blame her failed relationship on that, even if that wasn't really the case. The relationship failed because she was a vampire and he was human and had wised up.
"Well, I guess that could happen. But it would be a unique way to use one of your lives." Aleixs hadn't figured on Killian's bad luck following him, but then she remembered her lost luggage. And his mention of becoming Compton's life brought up another thought.....
"That's the funny thing....." Alexis's voice trailed off as she stared across the room. "When I got here, Compton knew about you already. He said he wouldn't hurt you. And yes, I'm coming back. I need the money the shop brings in. When? Who knows."

"I think I can managed a sign on the door...the stairs haven't tried to kill me since we decided to remodel the upstairs so I should be set," Killian agreed and got up from the couch and scribbeled a note on a blank piece of paper that was nearby. He made his way down the hall and carefully down the steps before shoving the note in front of the glass ignoring the woman who was knocking upon the door as he turned around and headed back up the stairs.
"I don't have enough left to be getting unique with them Lex. Incase you forgot I have been going through them a bit fast lately," Killian muttered in response to her comment about the plane crash.
"When I got here, Compton knew about you already. He said he wouldn't hurt you. And yes, I'm coming back. I need the money the shop brings in. When? Who knows."
"Lucky me," Killian muttered as Alexis explained the new vampire had told her he wouldn't eat him which was better then nothing...unless he was a liar. Killian wasn't even going to ask how the vampire had known about him.
Clicking on the TV Killian sat down on the couch and pulled absently at the small brace hich was wrapped around his broken finger.
"You could have lied and said you were coming back because you missed my charming personality," Killian absently replied as he flipped through channels stopping at one show which looked interesting. It wasn't everday you saw somebody impaled with a fishing spear. What the hell was "Harper's Isalnd?
It would work though and Killian adjusted his position slightly on the couch.
"Come back soon will you?"

Alexis listened as Killian went on about putting the sign up. She was thinking of all of the funds it would cost her in remarketing the boutique when she got home.
Wonderful. More bad luck.
"God, I might as well just give up and relocate to Alaska. We'll get this crap straightened out and then I think I might just start over again somewhere else. Sell the whole stupid place."
She knew this wasn't really the time to be making decisions, but Alexis couldn't deny how grumpy she was right now. She needed to get this mess cleared up so that she could get her life back to the way she liked it.
"Why's that? Do you miss me?" Alexis smirked. Truthfully, she did miss Killian's personality. He at least kept her entertained.

"You would never survive in Alaska....you would get too bored," Killian replied with a smirk as he divided his attention between the show he had decided on and his conversation with Alexis.
"Why's that? Do you miss me?"
The smirk fell from Killian's face for a moment. In truth he did miss Alexis; in over 300 years Killian had never done very well with being by himself it left far too much time for thought and that never ended well.
"No...I just don;t want to die alone...purely selfish," Killian muttered.
"Stop your shopping spree and get back here," Killian added on attempting to lighten the conversation slightly though he was pretty sure Alexis knew him well enough to see through the farce.

"Well, there's that, and I don't really want to see Tina Fey on the news every night." Alexis positioned the phone so she could cross the room to the window. Looking out, she watched the humans moving around, enjoying the human nightlife. Alexis thought there was nothing about London she could enjoy in this moment.
"I told you you needed a girlfriend-then you wouldn't die alone." Alexis told Killian as she wrapped the phone cord around her wrist.
"Stop your shopping spree and get back here,"
"Shopping spree? I'd love to be shopping. But then, I have nice stuff to come home to." Alexis thought of her closet at home. She missed her closet as much as she missed Killian. Especially her precious shoe collection.
"I better go. I need to catch up with Compton so we can finish up business."

"I told you you needed a girlfriend-then you wouldn't die alone."
"Right I'll get right on that....tell me Lex at what point do you think she will start to realize I'm not getting any older? Our golden anniversary maybe?"
"I better go. I need to catch up with Compton so we can finish up business."
"Yeah yeah have fun and come back before the store burns to the ground or the mob comes looking for you again," Killian muttered only half joking as he snapped the phone shut and focused on the television in front of him. If he didn;t move from where he was nothing could possibly go wrong....right?
