The 'temporary' move to Lawrence wasn't as bad as she had thought it would be. Sure she missed Jim and her other shop but it was nice to have a fresh place. Somewhere new and different. Somewhere alive....well maybe alive wasn't the best word to describe the place. But she wasn't seeing ghosts at every turn and that was good enough for her at the moment. But soon as they found out she was in the area...she knew the real work would start.
The shop was shaping up nicely and she couldn't wait for it to be filled with customers. She'd sold a chair to some old lady earlier that day and even though it wasn't much it was her first sale in her new shop.
Earthbound. She Melinda smiled a bit. The name had jumped out at her. In a way everything she sold was earthbound. After all it couldn't move on with it's previous owners and was just sold to new ones forever stuck here. It had seemed the perfect name. If only her grandmother could see her right now. She'd probably laugh at the name.

Not much changed in Lawrence so it wasn't all that surprising for Missouri to go into a new shop. The monotony seemed to sometimes make her a bit excited when new things rolled into town. Not that she'd show it.
Making her way in the door let out a jingle as the bells were hit by the door alerting whoever was there that a customer had arrived. She looked around. It looked like a nice little shop. Hand on her purse and arms folded she began to wonder around waiting for the owner or worker to appear.

Hearing the door open Melinda grinned. She was in the back moving some boxes of things she hadn't set up yet. She tried not to appear too anxious and smoothed her dress and hair before walking out front smiling.
She was a woman looking at some lamps and wandered over, pretending to be checking a display, moving a figurine around on the table it was on.

Missouri saw the girl emerge out of the corner of her eye and shook her head to herself. She was certainly a cute young woman and would no doubt find her place in town quickly. She moved over to an area filled with lamps and began going through them. Her reception room needed a new light.
The woman stopped short of Missouri and started playing with a display and Missouri chuckled. "Now don't be nervous honey I'm sure your shop is going to be fine. You've done a good job for your first day."

Trying to keep her hands busy she turned the figures to all face the same way. Melinda jumped a bit when the woman spoke. "Yes ma'am," she said before covering her mouth and smiling a bit embarrassed. "Sorry. New town and all I can't help being a bit nervous."

Missouri smiled at her a bit. "It's alright honey. You'll feel at home in no time. Though I bet you'll miss your husband no matter what," she said with a knowing look.
The shop's name is what had initially caught Missouri's interest. It wasn't very often you heard the word Earthbound and so she was here on more than just a mission to buy an old lamp though she didn't want to scare the dear.

"Yea I-" she paused. "Wait....How did you," she started, sounding confused. How had this woman known she was married? Let alone the fact that she was missing Jim. It wasn't like she had plastered a sign on the shop window saying 'Hi I'm Melinda Gordon. I married a guy named Jim and am now opening my second shop in your little town. I miss him a lot and wish he was here since I feel a bit lonely in this new town.'

Missouri smiled. "You're wearin a ring honey. And from what I can tell by lookin at ya, you look a bit sad as if he isn't here." She turned to observe the lamp again, touching the shade and the like. "I'm just very observant is all I hope I didn't startle you honey."

Unconsciously Melinda began to spin it around her finger. "Oh...right," she said looking a bit embarrassed. "I'm just a bit jumpy today, sorry. New place and all." She looked at the lamp for a moment. Jumpy didn't begin to cover how she felt. She'd been just waiting for some earthbound spirit to pop up in her shop or outside when she was throwing out boxes.

Missouri ignored the part of her that wanted to just start talking about how most of the earthbound spirits around here were almost non-existent at the moment but the thought of how she'd probably react stopped her. There were more subtle ways to talk to this Melinda Gordon. "Well I'm sure if you just keep yourself busy over the next few days you'll get used to little old Lawrence." She turned to look at the girl. "I think I'll buy this lamp. My last one seems to have just stopped workin all together."

"Oh! Right! Okay," she said, picking up the lamp and starting to carry it to the register. "I hope you enjoy it. I knew it would sell fast; it just looked so nice." Melinda's fingers quickly pressed buttons ringing up the total.

"It is mighty nice isn't it?" she said as she pulled out her walled from her purse. She handed Melinda a few bills. "It's amazin what you've done with this old empty space. I was beginning to wonder if it'd ever be filled. Not much business around here sometimes but I'm sure this place will draw many customers."

"Thanks," she said smiling and handed her, her change. "I hope you come back soon. I'm Melinda Gordon by the way."

Missouri picked up the lamp that Melinda had put in a bag for her. "Thank you I'll be sure to do that. Feel free to stop by if you ever need anything Melinda. I'm Missouri Moseley," she said, slipping a business card into the younger woman's hand and turning to leave. "Don't be a stranger ya hear?" she called over her shoulder as she exited the store.

Melinda smiled and waved goodbye a bit before looking down at the card in her hands. "Missouri Moseley Psychic.....Wait what?" she said, quickly looking up. But Missouri was gone. To say she was surprised would be putting it lightly. Melinda was in complete and total shock. A psychic in Lawrence. Well it seemed like her life was about to get even more interesting that normal. Sighing, she pocketed the card and went into the back.
