"No I didn;t check under the damned bed," Carter muttered indigently as the car started up. He had barely been able to gte up an dout of bed never mind bending every which way from Sunday to find the fucking boots.
Carter held his tongue though and simply glared out of the window as they headed back towards the nest he could feel his powers returning to him even if it was at a crawling pace. Carter pulled himself out of the car and followed after Mercy thinking with about every step that this was a fucking stupid plan especially considering he didn;t have a damed weapon of his own.
"You should have killed htem all the first go around," Carter groweled from next to Mercy as she pushed open the door way.
The stench of blood immeidately wafted into their faces and Carter cringed slightly in response to the over powering smell of stagnent blood that had bee left to cook in the early New Orleans heat.
"Well there is a scent I'm sure "Better Homes and Gardens" would be proud of," Carter mutter as he shoved past mercy and made his way further into the nest side stepping the dead bodies where he could. Carter made his way over to hte large desk that he had been dragged in front of and began to rummage through it not really expecting to fidn the moeny there but giving it an honest turn around just the same.

"You should have killed them all the first go around,"
Mercy pulled a face and silently mimicked him, immediately throwing her arm across her face as the scent of blood over took her. She took several deep breaths from the crook of her arm, braced herself, lowered her arm and stepped further into the nest. She hadn't realised there'd been this much blood. Enough for the smell to all but choke her.
She watched as Carter rummaged through a large desk and shook her head. The money wasn't likely to be there. It was too obvious. A movement in the back caught her attention. A vampire had been left, unconscious in the nest last night. Well that was convenient. She made her way over to the vampire, picked him up by his collar and shook him conscious.
"Morning," she said, pasting a smile on her face. "Where's the money?"
"What money?"
Mercy sighed. "You know, the hundred grand which was the whole reason we stopped by last night?"
"Oh, that money." the vampire seemed to think for a moment. "Sorry, no idea."
Mercy, however, noticed his eye flicking to the same place every time he spoke or thought. She dropped the vampire back onto the ground and kicked him across the face. He'd live. She walked over to the opposite corner of the room slowly, her eyes searching for what it could have been that the vampire was looking at. She found it, however, when her heels hit one of the floorboards and it made a slightly different sound. She tapped the next one lightly with her foot, it made the same sound.
"I may have found it," she called over to Carter.

As Carter continued to rummage through the desk his anger began to grow ten fold. Seriously though how difficult was it to a pay a man for services done? In truth he had taken one of theirs out but if they hadn't sent a vampire after him to babysitt then they wouldn't have had the least bit of trouble in the end.
Fucking vampires...
Carter's attention snapped from the desk as he watched Mercy yank and not yet dead vampire from the ground...one who proved to be completely useless is gaining straight knowledge from though as Mercy tossed him back to the ground Carter figured the vampires attempt to be coy had at least bitten him in the ass. Snapping the leg off of a nearby chair Carter was on the vampire in a second his eyes burning down into him as he held the stake of wood firmly in his hands.
"I really...really don't like to bitten...unless its foreplay and then I don't mind so much...but that's not the point here is it Drac?..."
Carter's attention was turned to Mercy as she declared to have found something. A small smile crossed his face as his eyes locked once more with the vampires.
"Save me a spot in hell will you?" Carter asked with a menacing smirk before he drove the stake clean through the vampires heart with enough force that it pierced clean through the creature pinning it to the floor as bloo sprayed from teh wound splattering across Carter's face before the creature mets its demise.
Pushing himself off the ground and attempting to brush the blood from him Carter made his way voer to Mercy.
"If it's the magical city of Oz you're so fired," Carter muttered staring down at the floor boards that Mercy was tapping her heel against.
Heels?
........
"You wore heels?...To a vampires nest?" Carter asked a look of slight bewilderement across his face as he looked at her for a moment.

"If it's the magical city of Oz you're so fired,"
Mercy rolled her eyes and stomped down on the floor, her foot falling through and causing a hole, revealing a hell of a lot of cash.
"I think there's more than 100k there," she said, her eyes searching over the money under the floor. Definitely more than 100k. It must have been where the vampires stored all of their money. "And yes I did wear heels. What's your point?"
She smashed through more of the floor, making the whole bigger, and dropped down into the whole, picking up handfuls of cash and piling them up on the floor at Carter's feet, counting as she went. When she'd added up 100k, she dusted off her hands and started to pull herself out of the floor.

Carter couldn;t help but let his eyes widen as the whole Mercy had stomped into the floor revealed a shit load of cash...hell that was a shit load and a half.
"Jackpot..." Carter muttered to himself as Mercy climbed into the hole. She could have worn bunny slippers for all he currently cared his attention was souly focused on the heaps of cash she was piling out of the whole and stacking at his feet.
Carter crouched down and situated the stacks of cash as best as he could as Mercy piled them up and out of the hole but he looked at her confusion clearly striken across his face as she stopped after counting out 100 grand and started to pull herself out of the hole. There was clearly still money in the hole so Carter wasn't exactly sure what it was she was doing.
"What are you doing?...Coffee break?"

"What are you doing?...Coffee break?"
Mercy stopped trying to pull herself out of the hole and looked up at Carter questioningly. "What do you mean, 'what are you doing?'" she asked. "They owed you 100 grand," she pointed to the cash at his feet, "there's 100 grand... I'm failing to see the problem."
She looked back down through the hole at the rest of the money and then back at Carter and suddenly realised what he meant. "No," she said. "No way, we already killed over half of them, do we really need to take all of their money as well?"

"No I know that that is 100 grand I counted...just in case they didn;t teach you how to in puppy college," Carter responded with a smirk...a smirk that quickly vanished as he realized that Mercy really had no intention of taking the rest of the money.
"No way, we already killed over half of them, do we really need to take all of their money as well?"
"They BIT ME!" Carter exclaimed defensively as Mercy attempted to defend her reasoning for not taking the rest of the money which was really no defense at all...they had bit him...were going to kill him and he had only killed one of their it had hardly seemed like a fair trade off.
"Besides their cost has incurred interest..." Carter muttered as he pushed Mercy back into the hole.
Carter was about to turn and go grab a sack for hem to place the money in when a light trembeling under his feet caught his attention. It was a low rumble and if they had been in California he might have said earthquake...but the bayou was not somewhere earthquakes normally occured.
"Mercy..." Carter attempted to warn her 2 seconds before a hand cracked through the old wooden floor and gripped his foot in a death like clamp the razor like nails digging into the flesk of his foot. The grip sent him crashing down to the ground a few inches short of where Mercy had gone back into the hole. Carter kicked out with his foot attempting to kick off the vampire a few seconds ebfore the full form of the vampire errupted from the floor followed by several others.
"Fuck me..." Carter muttered as he stumbeled backwards. Without waiting another moment Carter grabbed Mercy's arm and hualed her out of the hole his teeth biting into the side of his cheek as pain flared through his chest.

"They BIT ME!"
Okay, he had a point there. But still... it didn't seem right. If they took ALL the money, no doubt the fangs would come looking for it. Mercy made a small noise of protest as Carter pushed her back into the hole and glared at him.
"Mercy..."
Mercy had felt the low rumbling too, but not soon enough to stop a clawed hand from grabbing Carter's foot. After much chaotic confusion and violence, during which more vampires showed up, Mercy felt herself being hauled out of the floor. She hadn't even realised she was still there. But she was impressed with Carter's strength in his current condition.

"I think we're fucked," Carter muttered to Mercy as she stood beside him and he took in the full extent of their current situation. There was at most 10 vampires in teh nest now which was a far cry less then had been there a few hours ago when they had first been there but it was still enough especially with Carter's powers being on the fritz and his injuries still giving him shit but just the same this whole song and dance was bgenning to become very very old.
There was only 1 vampire out of the lot that Carter remembered and that was teh head of the nest; the man who had hired him and the man who had isntigated the whole taking a chunk out of his neck event that last time Carter had been in the nest.
"We just came to collect what is owed to us," Carter explained without being asked to. His vocie was calm...eerily calm which was not something to trifle with.
Carter barely had a moment to comprehend what had happened before he found himself held down by 2 vampires his face pressed against the blood coated floor and he couldn;t help but grimace slightly at the sensation.
"You guys need to invest in a cleaning service," Carter muttered but his words were cut off by a groan as teh two vampires added pressure against his back.
"You have killed several of my children tonight...it is only just I give you what is owed to you as you put it..."
The vampires vocie sounded through the enst but just the same his lips never moved as he made his way towards Carter. With a simple flcik of his hand the elder vampire sent Mercy backwards against the wall.
"Watch...as I watched you kill."
The vampire explained his eyes searing into Mercy for a moment before it fell upon carter ripping him up from the ground and tearing into his neck once more sending fresh stream s of blood cascading from his neck and soaking the white tshirt into a deep crimson.
Carter struggeled to pry the vampire off of him but his physical fight was draining as the vampire literally sucked the life out of him. Carter felt the anger within him rise and in the moment his anger boiled over Carter literally saw red the nephilim side of him taking complete control as his entire body literally shuddered under the power which coursed through his body.
The air around Carter seemingly popped and jumped with electrically currents and in teh very next moment the elder vampires was consumed in flames which stared from his mouth and poured voer his entire body as if the blood he had been drinking from Carter was prue fire in a metter of seconds the vampire was ash upon the floor and the other 2 vampires who had held Carter moments ago were screaming in agony as well as their bodies burned from the isnide out leaving them a mass of charred flesh.
Carter had toppeled to his knees once the eldest vampire had been consumed by flames and he remained there his entire body still yet seemingly shuddering under the forces of power as his eyes stared straight ahead seemingly vacant yet burning just the same.

"We just came to collect what is owed to us,"
Mercy couldn't understand how Carter was managing to be so calm. He was right, they were fucked, even she thought so and she'd been against some pretty bad odds before. She winced as Carter was all but tackled to the ground but couldn't seem to move to do anything about it. What the hell was wrong with her?
She didn't get very far in trying to figure it out as she was sent flying backwards, letting out a small cry of pain as her back hit the wall.
"Watch...as I watched you kill."
The head vampire's eyes burned into her, and she couldn't look away. His gaze made her feel terrible about the vampires she'd killed the previous night and she was relieved when he looked away. Until she realised that meant he had focused back on Carter. Mercy forgot her pain as she watched the vampire sink his teeth into Carter for a second time, only this time, she couldn't do anything to stop it.
Apparently, she didn't have to. She felt the air in the nest practically crackle with energy and within moments the vampires holding on to Carter, including the one that was drinking from him, had been reduced to ashes on the ground.
The remaining vampires wisely made a run for it before they joined their friends, leaving Mercy alone with a seriously charged up Nephilim. She looked at him for a long while, his burning the vampires to nothing had been amazing... and terrifying. And not for the first time since meeting Carter, she silently asked herself what she had gotten into.
"Carter?" she said finally, still against the wall. "You okay?"

As the other vampires in teh room began to make a quick retreat after witnessing their own be consumed by flames the power in the room surged the faint sound of static sounding through the nest as one by one the vampires were disenegrated into piles of ash as they fled from their original loction. After several moments Carter and Mercy were alone once more ash blowing through the house and coating everything but silence was more prevailed save for Carter's labored breathing as he seemingly braced himself against the ground his form quaking as he forced his eyes open.
"Carter...You ok?"
Mercy's voice broke through the haze and pain of his mind and Carter finally looked up at her his arm still bracing against the wood of the floor as fresh streams of blood rolled from the brutual wound in his neck.
"Fucker bit me...," Carter attempted to explain; his voice for the briefest moments sounding as if he was attemting to justify his actions to someone...even if it was himself.
The power which had burned through him was not something Carter tapped into often; it was the side of him he didn;t dare venture into often. It was his pure and unadulterated nephilim side...the side that the angels feared would one day snuff out humanity.
Pushing himself up from the floor Carter stood stock still for several moments his eyes scanningt he piles of ash as if he was lost and confused beyond reason.

"Fucker bit me...,"
"I saw," Mercy said, pushing herself to her feet, and rubbing at her back. She was going to end up with serious spinal injuries one of these days. "And then you..." what had he done? "and then you fucking set him on fire... set them all on fire... somehow..."
She stared at Carter as he got to his feet, looking around like he had no idea where he was or what the hell was going on. And then the vast amounts of blood streaming down his neck caught her attention. Putting aside, momentarily, the fact that he had just utterly destroyed several vampires without even touching them, Mercy went over to him, pulling off her jacket as she went.
Carter didn't look like he was in the mood to be touched at that particular moment, but the gaping wound in his neck kind of took priority. She hesitantly lifted her hand to his face and tilted his head to the side so she could get a better look at the bite, wincing at the mess of flesh and blood that was his neck.
"You keep this up and you're going to run out of blood," she said, bunching up her jacket and pressing it against his neck to stem the flow of blood. "And then what am I going to do?"

Swaying slightly on his feet Carter's eyes still held the glaze of confusion over them though he knew exactly what had happened but the amount of detachment that came with his nephilim powers always had this effect on him and was part of the reason he rarely used them. If it was 1 thing Carter despised it was not being in control of a situation especially when he was the situation.
"And then you...and then you fucking set him on fire... set them all on fire... somehow..."
Carter re-set his focus on Mercy as she continued to talk.
"I smited them...smote?...smoted?...smited?...set them on fire works..." Carter muttered his vocie talking to Mercy yet not holding the focus for it to be classified as a conversation.
"...They bit me..." Carter muttered once more. He jerked slightly in a motion which could almost be classified as being startled as Mercy tilted his head to the side and pressed her jacket against the wound in his neck. He could feel he had lost a lot of blood but didn;t much care.
"You keep this up and you're going to run out of blood...and then what am I going to do?"
"Live a happy and boring life?" Carter offered the faint spark in his eyes returning as his wear with all began to filter back into him. Though he was extremley tense Carter allowed Mercy to apply pressure to the wound on his neck without giving much of a fuss.

"Live a happy and boring life?"
"Probably," Mercy said, glaring at her jacket which had quickly become soaked with blood and was not a whole lot of use anymore. "But where's the fun in that?"
She was pleased Carter hadn't kicked up at fuss at the pressure on his neck, in his current state that could lead to a fiery death for her. She let out an exasperated sigh and tossed her jacket into a corner of the nest. It had ceased serving it's purpose and there was no point in keeping it as it was completely ruined.
His neck was still bleeding profusely and she didn't know how many times Carter could pass out before he stopped waking up. "We need to get you back home," Mercy said. "Unless you have another magic trick up your sleeve that's going to fix that mess, you're going to be in a worse condition than you were when we started."

"You really are suicidal there Lassie...just incase you didn't know it," Carter muttered as he watched Mercy throw her jacket in the corner of the room the squelching sound the blood soaked artical of clothing made when it hit the ground was rather disgusting but the color matched all the other blood on the ground.
"Unless you have another magic trick up your sleeve that's going to fix that mess, you're going to be in a worse condition than you were when we started."
"Doesn't work that way..." Carter attempted to explain as he watched the floor around him fade slightly into a haze before clearing again.
Carter took a few steps away from Mercy but used her to steady himself as he felt as if he was about to crash to the ground.
"Car would be good...don't leave the money..." Carter muttered as he made his way all be it sluggishly out of the nest. The sun was blinding or at least it was to him as he stepped out in the the hot New Orleans weather.
Carter managed to somehow stumble his way to the car and yanked open the door before collapsing into the passenger chair. The world around him was shimmer with heat it seemed but Carter knew it was the effects of the "power surge" that was fucking with his senses. Carter slummped back against the chair blood drenching him as his eyes rolled shut and he slipped into unconciousness.
