Lilith sat in the bleachers, a large hat shading her from the sun, and watched the end of the basketball game with rapt attention. The game was tied, that was her doing, but all that happened now was left up to chance, the next team to successfully toss the ball through the net would win. Lucky them.
Her eyes darted to the boy standing on the middle of the sideline as he held his hand up and, as he lowered his fingers yelled, "Five, four..."
Her eyes snapped back to the ball, as it flew through the air, falling perfectly through the net. A cheer went up among the winning team, the group of teenage boys, hugging first the boy who made the winning basket and then each other, constantly slapping each other on the backs. The other team, however, hung their heads, congratulated the other team briefly before dispersing themselves among the crowd of onlookers leaving the court. Now was the time to act. Keeping her eye on the captain of the losing team, she positioned herself near one of the exits and, when he had come into ear-shot, began to cry loudly.
"Hey, sweetie, what's the matter?" he asked, bending down to look at her, rubbing her back lightly in an attempt to calm her down.
"I... can't... find... my... mommy!" She said through loud, racking sobs and wiped her nose on the sleeve of her dress.
The boy gave her a sympathetic look. "Want me to help you find her?" Lilith just nodded and allowed him to take her hand and lead her out of the court. "Where do you think she went?" he asked.
Lilith pointed in a vague direction. "I think she went that way," she said, her sobs having subsided now that she had the boy with her, and walked out in front of him, pulling him down the street until they came to an ominous looking abandoned workhouse.
"Why would she be in here?" the boy asked, giving both Lilith and the building strange looks.
"She's working to fix it up and turn it into a homeless shelter," Lilith explained. "She might have come in here to do some work on it while I was watching your game and lost track of the time."
"Oookay then," the boy said, "Let's go have a look." He stepped out in front of her and pushed the door open, checking first that it was safe, then gestured for Lilith to follow. When the door had closed behind them, Lilith nodded slightly and, with loud barks, two large, invisible dogs pounced on the boy and held his arms and his legs to the ground, snarling.
The boy screamed, unable to see what had attacked him, and unable to understand what was holding him down. Lilith walked toward him slowly, materializing a long, flint blade in her hand as she did so.
"You're such a nice boy," she said, standing over him, her legs on either side of his torso. "I almost regret having to do this." Her eyes turned white and the boy's screams caught in his throat. "Almost." She swung her arm down and the flint knife sliced through the boy's abdomen, revealing important internal organs. The boy began screaming again, this time not just from terror but from pain. The hell hounds holding him down moved forward and began to eat away at his insides. Lilith moved to behind the boy's head, out of the way of the hounds, and watched for a moment, reveling in the pain of another.
"Hush little baby, don't say a word," she sang over his screams, "Momma's gonna buy you a mockingbird."
Tiring of his screams, she swung the blade down again, decapitating him in one blow. She lifted the head up to the same level as hers and kissed it on the forehead. "Whoever this Venus woman was she had great taste in sacrifice," she said and, with a flick of her wrist, and much to the disappointment of the hell hounds who had yet to finish their feast, the remainder of the body burst into flames. The head she kept. "So many seals," she said, giggling with delight. "So many opportunities for chaos."
