Once Sam had left Missouri’s house the world seemed to go by him in a flash. He had a mission one could call it and he was the only one who would be able to see it through to its end. He ignored the pain ripping into him because when push came to shove it really didn’t matter at the current moment in time only one thing did. He knew by now that back at the house his absence had been found out and that more then likely at least Bobby would take off in search of him but he didn’t have time to convince someone that his actions weren’t something brought on by the heat of the moment…it was what he had been meant to do all along. Dean had spent his entire life looking after Sam and making everything alright for him and nobody ever stopped to make sure that everything was ok for Dean. That wasn’t to say that Sam didn’t care for his brother but it had just been the way their lives had functioned since day one. But now Dean couldn’t take care of himself and it was up to Sam to come to bat now and he was more then willing to do whatever he had to do in order to save his brother. Taking as many back roads as he could remember Sam made his way away from Lawrence and into the desolate Kansas night where there wasn’t much of a soul to keep him company save for his thoughts…or thought. His eyes were locked on the road ahead of him looking for something and a small determined smile crossed his face as he slammed on the breaks the Impala slamming to a stop directly in front of the old crossroads. He shut the car off and carefully pulled himself out of the car trying to cause as little damage to his still healing injuries as possible. He walked around the car and pulled out the supplies he would need. He placed a picture of himself and a small bag of herbs and items he would need and then closed the box. He limped his way to the center of the crossroads and dug a small hole in the dead center of it and buried the box in it. Covering the hole Sam stood up and stood in the center of the road his eyes darting around watching and waiting for the demon to come…

She stood beneath the off white colored crossroads sign and felt her eyes burn into the figure stood before her. She had been summoned....far too many times for her liking in the past year or so and to be drastically honest with all, she was pretty damn tired to all hell of the lame deals they offered up to her. Did she really care if “such and such designed and built a better multiplex than so and so”? Or did she give a flying rats ass that “That guy sold more best sellers than that guy and this girl had bigger boobs than that girl”? Answer to all those question....not one flaming bit.
Yet now as her eyes bore into the back of the young, tall man before her she knew this was no ordinary visit. This was no “make me rich”, “make me successful”, “cure my puppy” sort of visit. Oh no....this was the real deal....
“Sam Winchester.....” she mused quietly, stepping out from beneath the sign and making her way purposefully towards the man before her. “Sammy, Sammy.....Sammy....” she added with a more than obvious groan to her voice. As she reached Sam and laid a hand upon his shoulder, the Crossroads Demon stepped slowly about him and allowed her eyes to skim over every inch of him before she rested them upon his own.
“My, my, my....It seems that all my Christmases have come all at once....” she whispered happily, the pleasure in her voice oh so very evident. “How is dear Dean....hmm? Oh that's right....I don't think oops will cover what has happened to him lately will it?” she added with a grin.
Taking a deep breath, and once more allowing her eyes to travel the full length of Sam Winchester's body, the Crossroads Demon took a step back and smiled lightly back at him. “I already know the answer to my question....but manners are such a virtue....To what do I owe this pleasure?” she breathed.

Sam Winchester stood in the center of the crossroads his breathing labored and his arms crossed over his chest as he watched and waited for her to show up. She had to after all he had done everything right; he had known how to do it years ago and had learned all that he could ever possible want to know about how to summon a crossroads demon or any other demon for that matter…there were perks to the job after all. Sam eyes bore down into the hole he had covered in the center of the road worried he had some how done something wrong as a voice whispered his name through the night sky and sent a shiver ripping through him.
She’d come…
Sam jerked away from the demon’s touch as he felt her hand upon his shoulder. He turned on the spot to stare back at her not wanting to have his back to a demon for any long period of time. Sam flinched slightly his finger nails digging into the palm of his hand as the demon brought up Dean.
“Don’t you talk about him…” Sam replied shortly through gritted teeth keeping his eyes dead ahead and trying to swallow down any emotion he might have felt about anything.
As the Crossroads demon question reached Sam’s ears he knew it was best to answer her question so that they could get their whole affair done and over with and he would have his brother back.
“I want you to bring him back…Dean I want you to get him back…”

She smiled back at Sam as he acted quite predictably in snapping at the mention of Dean's name and the Crossroads Demon took a single step towards him. Inhaling his scent with such a look of sheer pleasure upon her face, she quickly flashed her crimson eyes so that they bore into his very own and smirked back at him. “Sammy....dear, dear Sammy....How can we strike a deal when I am banned from speaking of the very matter the deal is based upon?” she asked thoughtfully, allowing her eyes to snap back to their original coloring.
A small, almost proud smile crossed the Demon's face as Sam voiced his wishes and she reached out a hand to lay it gently upon his cheek. “I can do that....” she mused softly, her fingers tracing every contour of his face before taking it back away and smiling back at him again. “.....for a price, of course Sam. But then of course you will have known this already.” she added slyly.
The Crossroads Demon's eyes fixed upon Sam's and she allowed a small smile to play across her lips as she stepped up to him directly and left little to no gap lying between their faces. “Do you know.....how he died?” she breathed softly, her eyes tearing into his and her mouth curling into a smile “Dean....your loving, self sacrificing brother....hmmmm? Do you know that he died sobbing, broken....wasted....beaten....” The Crossroads Demon fixed a large smile upon her face and leaned up only slightly so as to stare directly at Sam “.....willingly.....” she added with a great deal of spite to her tone.

Sam flinched slightly a grimace upon his face as the demon laid her hand upon his cheek. The touch of her all but made his skin crawl and the creeping sense of dread to become all that much stronger. Sam nodded silently as she brought up the matter of price. He wasn’t stupid he knew that a crossroads demon always made deals based upon the collection of a person’s soul and that Sam’s eyes grew wide and his breathing hitched in his chest as the demon proceeded to explain exactly how his brother had died and what he had doen and suffered through.
”….willingly….”
“No…Dean wouldn’t leave…he wouldn’t want to…you’re…” Sam’s closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath and exhaled it almost sounding like a growl as he got a grip on himself once more. Demons lied they got to you in any way they could and they ripped and tore at you from the inside out. Sam pushed his eyes open once more and stared directly back at the demon.
“Just bring him back…just do it…my soul in 10 years and you bring him back…please,” Sam all but pleaded with her his eyes burning into the demons wanting nothing more then to just get the whole thing over and done with and to go back to how everything was supposed to be.

The Crossroads Demon's mouth twitched into a self satisfied smile as Sam denied the fact that his brother would ever die willingly, leaving him alone and she stood on the very tip of her toes so that her mouth lay directly beside his ear. “He allowed the knife to be driven....wrenched....plunged into his heart....his fingers tore into Meg as the life was ripped from him. His eyes poured with the tears of oh so many emotions....”
The Crossroads Demon allowed a single groan to pass her lips and she quivered slightly against Sam before carrying on. “And he did it for you....all for you Sammy....” she breathed into his ear. Her hot breath dancing off of his cheek “All for you to have a safe life Sammy....a normal life....an apple pie life....” she finished quietly, her voice barely over a whisper, but knowing full well that every word would tear into Sam Winchester as they fell from her. “He died sobbing Sam....the great Dean Winchester....sobbing like a baby....the blood pouring from his mouth....Dean Winchester lived a pathetic existence and his death mimicked accordingly....” she spat.
Stepping away from Sam as he finally made his offer up to her, the Crossroads Demon cocked her head slightly and allowed her eyes to dance over him “Ten years?” she mused quietly “Now, now Sammy....you seem to be thinking that you are like all the rest....oh no...you Sam, you're so very special....” She turned slightly on the spot and took a few deliberate steps away from Sam before turning back to face him “And there are a Hell of a lot of folks that want to see you down there....no can do on the ten Sammy....care to try again?” she whispered pointedly.

Sam cringed away from the feeling of the demons breath brushing against his ear but the words she spoke to him sliced deep into him and he had to force down the lump growing in his throat as he refused to give her the satisfaction of getting to him. As the demon mocked Dean’s life Sam’s arm snapped up grabbing the demon his hand squeezing violently into the flesh upon her arm.
“I would stop talking before I send you back to hell where you belong,” he growled his eyes burning with rage and anger but behind the anger was something else…pain and agony over what she had said regarding Dean.
Sam’s eyes narrowed in confusion as the demon seemed to think over the deal he had offered; that was the normal rate. 10 years for your soul it had been documented time and time again.
“But…10 years is what you give…whatever anyone wants for them to have for 10 years before you send the hell hounds to collect their soul…that’s how it works how every case I’ve ever heard of has worked…why…” Sam’s words were cut off as the demon mentioned that there were those in hell who wanted to see him. He took a few steps away from her fear flashing in his eyes for a moment but he quickly pushed past it as he didn’t have time for it. Fear wouldn’t bring his brother back from the dead only she could.
“5 then…5 years and you get my soul if you bring Dean back…”

As Sam's hand suddenly gripped hard into the flesh upon her arm, the Crossroads Demon groaned deep within her chest and allowed her body to shudder only slightly as she stared back at him. “Much as your willingness to get....rough....with me, pleases me greatly.....” she groaned, shifting her arm out of his hand and stepping up to him. “You would be wise to tread carefully about me should you wish for dear Dean to be returned unharmed....” she spat, her eyes drilling into his.
“Yes Sam...ten years is the norm for most....but Sammy, you are not like the most....” she whispered, allowing her hand to trail ever so lightly down his cheek once more “So many chomping at the bit to get to the great Sam Winchester and I....I will be more than willing to hand you to them on a silver platter....” she breathed, allowing her hand to leave his face and trail its way softly down his neck.
As Sam halved his offer and allowed his angry eyes to drill into hers, the Demon saw immediately the pain that lay behind them and she shook her head softly. “You see Sam....I would give you five years....believe me I would....but I have a problem with that oh and believe it is a purely selfish reason....” she added slyly, her hands dancing lightly over his shoulders and resting upon the opening of his jacket.
“You see Sammy....we Demon's are a lot like humans....” she breathed, her hands slowly working to push the jacket from off of his back and lowering it over his arms until it fell to the floor at their feet “And not just when we inhabit their bodies, either....” she whispered, her fingers trailing their way over his chest and coming to a stop upon the top button of his shirt.
“My desires are like yours and many others....desires for playthings....beautiful things to stare at.....” she groaned, her fingers deftly working to undo the buttons upon Sam's shirt. As her hands reached the very bottom of his shirt and she eased the front of it open, her eyes shone with sheer pleasure and she fixed a broad smile upon her face “Beautiful things indeed....” she breathed, her fingers tracing their way over the contours of Sam's chest, her body quivering at the sensation of his flesh beneath her hands. As her hands trailed their way lightly across his chest, the Demon stopped deliberately at the very side of the tattoo upon his chest and she smirked up at him gently “One could make such a jest about wishing to possess a Winchester....the thought...the thrill of being inside a Winchester does please me so much....you shouldn't be so selfish” she pouted as her eyes gazed over the tattoo designed to ward off demonic possession.
“In five years a humans looks waste away Sam....the wither and they die....and color me selfish but.....boy....I can't have you losing your looks before I take you downstairs” she groaned, her eyes finally leaving Sam's chest and resting upon his own. Though she negated entirely to remove her hands from upon his chest. “Try again.....” she breathed, her voice taking on a husky tone to it as she relished the feel of his skin beneath her touch once more.

Sam listened to the Crossroads Demon as she acknowledged the fact that 10 years was the usual deal many received in exchange for their souls. The truth was that 10 years was an extremely long time…long enough to make it worth it.5 years was even bearable but it seemed as if things weren’t going to be working in Sam’s favor and he felt as if he really shouldn’t have been surprised; things never worked in the Winchesters favor.
He swallowed hard the lump of fear in his throat as she continued to touch on the subject that there was more then a handful of unsightly things just willing to tear him apart and they were all waiting in hell for him. The thought was more then un-nerving but the thought and the reality of living a life without Dean was worse.
Sam’s eyes brightened slightly as the demon acknowledged that she would grant him 5 years, which in retrospect wasn’t bad at all. But as she voiced that she had a problem with it Sam felt his heart sink once more as he realized he wouldn’t be getting 5 years. He flinched in pain slightly as she pushed off his jacket the shift causing the injuries on his arms and shoulder to burn in protest.
Sam cringed away slightly as the demons hand trailed over his chest the mer sensation of her hands against his skin making his blood run cold as he glared back at her his jaw clenched in anger as he listened to her reasoning on why she wouldn’t give him 5 years. Sam jerked back slightly as he felt her hands against his chest, her touch was like acid and all but burned through him. “We like to keep the trash out,” Sam hissed back at her as she commented on the tattoos they had received in order to prevent possession.
“3 years,” Sam replied sharply and gripped her hand and pushed it away from his chest his eyes blaring with rage.

The Demon's eyes fixed solely upon Sam's and a small rather amused smile played across her lips as she watched them brighten slightly, only to have his hopes dashed entirely. The show of pain that crossed Sam's face as she removed his jacket caused a small look of what could be construed as concern flash across the Demon's face as she lifted his arm and rolled his sleeves back rather gently. Her eyes danced over the wounds that coursed through Sam's forearms and she pouted slightly “Hmmm....let us hope this heal before I collect my due....I am not too keen on damaged goods....” she pondered quietly, before allowing his arm to fall back to his side.
As Sam's hate filled words filled the air about them, the Demon's eyes latched onto his and an all too satisfied smile curled her lips. “The same could be said for us Demon's and Hell....” she spat viciously, her eyes burning into his “Why do you think Dean resides in limbo? He is not wanted down there, nor is he wanted elsewhere....Trash, filth, disease ridden soul...No-one in their right mind would ever welcome him down there.....” she hissed “He wasn't wanted in life....he isn't wanted in death....” she spat.
“You left him Sammy....all those years ago you upped and you left him.....even as the pathetic waste of a human begged and pleaded with you to stay....” her voice came out in a low growl and she stepped up to his face again. “You fought him every step of the way when he walked this earth....you knew he would lay his life down for you and yet you resented him....all that he stood for...all that he believed in....”
The Demon's eyes flashed with sheer hatred as they burned their way into Sam's and she stepped back slightly “Do you know what his last thoughts were Sam? Do you wish to know his last thought as his life was torn from him? The exact split second before his neck was snapped and that little light flickered out entirely.....He knew that his sacrifice was to be a waste....and he cursed and he resented you for it....his last thoughts of you were filled with nothing but hatred for you Sam.....” she growled.
As Sam once more shortened the deal, in a hopes of swaying her the Demon shook her head and stared back at him. “Prove to me how much your brother was worth to you....” she spat “No deal....”

Sam sucked in a pained breath of air as the Crossroads demon rolled up the sleeves to his shirt and inspected the wounds across his arms. Being that they were all but still fresh it hurt like hell but he would be damned if she knew it.
“Didn’t your mother ever teach you to keep your hands to yourself,” Sam shot back his eyes locking with hers as he pulled his sleeves back down over his arms and began to button his shirt once more. Sam’s eyes snapped back up to meet hers though and his movements froze as she began to speak about Dean again. Her words tore into him more then anything he had been through in the last 24 hours and he tried to push away the tears he felt burning behind his eyes as she continued to speak the malice in her voice striking into him every word.
“Stop…” Sam’s voice didn’t hold nearly the demand he wanted it to as she struck him with what she interpreted to be Dean’s last moments. Sam knew demon’s lied it was what they did what they got their kicks from but it didn’t mean it stung any less or that it didn’t bring about the creeping sensation of doubt. A felt the sensation of a single tear snake its way down his cheek and it snapped what little resolve he had and he felt himself launch out at the demon in front of him.
“SHUT THE HELL UP DO YOU HEAR ME?!” He growled in her face as he slammed her backwards till she slammed full force into the old crossroads sign in the corner of the road. He could hardly see straight the anger consumed him as his eyes slammed into her his breathing shallow and malice ridden.
“Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus, omnis satanica potestas, omnis incursio infernalis adversarii, omnis legio, omnis congregatio et secta diabolica, in nomine et virtute Domini Nostri Jesu + Christi, eradicare et effugare a Dei Ecclesia, ab animabus ad imaginem Dei conditis ac pretioso divini Agni sanguine redemptis…………………I can keep going if you like and once I’m doen I can just as easily go to another crossroads and start over. I might even get a better deal that way…1 year or I finish it…” Sam hissed pulling her away from the post only to slam her against it once more anger burning in his eyes.

The Demon's eyes flashed with pure malice as Sam snapped at her and tore his arms away from her grip. “Didn't yours ever teach you to have manners when speaking to a lady.....oh....wait, she couldn't....could she?” she added with an all too proud smirk playing across her face.
The pathetic whining plea that fell from Sam caused her smirk to grow into a broad grin and she could all but see the pain and anger mounting behind his eyes as he stared back at her “But I am having so much fun Sammy.....I do find it so very refreshing to tell the truth now and then...it's good for the soul....” she said softly, a sly laugh all too evident behind her tone.
As the Demon felt Sam's hands upon her and felt herself propelled backwards until she struck the old crossroads sign full force, she allowed a loud laugh to rip from her mouth and she stared back at him amused. “Well, well, well....there I was thinking Dean was the rough and ready Winchester....oh how you prove me so very wrong....” she groaned, quivering beneath his touch and all but relaxing into his grip.
As the Latin that fell from Sam's lips, filled with nothing but hatred, coursed through to the Demon's very soul, her body jerked and shuddered beneath his grasp. Her groans made way for a loud hiss of pain as the words he spat drove through her, burning her to her core and her body thrust beneath his grip as she fought against the sensation of being torn from the body she resided within. As the hissing made way again for a deep guttural groan which in turn was pushed aside by a gut wrenching scream of agony, the Demon sagged slightly in Sam's arms and stared back at him.
Her breath hitched as the words stopped and she growled deep within her chest as Sam pulled her forwards and quickly slammed her back against the wall. Her hair lay disheveled over her face and her breathing was ragged as she allowed a small amused smile to play across her face. “Wow....you surprised me with the rough and ready attitude....but the dirty talk.....that won me over Sammy....” she whispered, her breath slowly returning to her.
“I am ready to make the deal....” she breathed, her hands reaching up and placing themselves upon Sam's stomach, directly beneath his navel. “One year....no deal....” she groaned, her eyes burning back into Sam's and she allowed one of her hands to travel its way down his bare flesh before easing its way down beneath the waistband of his jeans. “Purely selfish reasons of course.....” she groaned again, as her hand skimmed its way over the flesh of his thigh and back up to his waistband before reaching down once more until she reached her goal with a sly smile.
A low groan escaped her and her eyes slipped closed as she felt Sam respond to her touch, entirely against his own will no doubt and she smiled back at him. “A year is too long to wait for what I want....” she groaned deep within her chest. “Be here....on the twentieth day of next month, one minute before the bells toll for midnight and I will collect my due.” The Demon's hand remained firmly rooted where she had placed it and she grinned back at Sam “Be here of your own accord....or I will send the hounds for you.....” she hissed spitefully.

Sam couldn’t help but flinch back slightly as the demon brought up his mother and the fact that she hadn’t been there to teach him or Dean anything since she had died.
“No she couldn’t…because a demonic son of a bitch killed her,” Sam hissed the words even hurting him as he said them. Sam glared down at her disgusted as she quivered beneath his touch. He had long since begun to hate this entire situation and a part of him wished he could just send the bitch back to hell and start over but in doing that there was no guarantee he would find another demon who was willing to deal with him for Dean at all. Sam’s eyes burned into the demon as she screamed and writhed beneath his touch as the Latin exorcism he had learned years ago fell from his lips. He had to stop himself though as he couldn’t send her to hell not while he still needed her. Sam’s eyes widened slightly as she proclaimed she was ready to deal…an exorcism usually caught a demon’s attention.
A crest fallen look crossed Sam’s face as she shot down the deal of 1 year immediately. That he hadn’t anticipated…
Sam jumped startled as he felt her hand upon him his breath catching for a moment as his responded to her touch before he shoved her backwards away from him.
“Get the hell off of me,” he hissed his eyes darkened by anger and disgust which wasn’t aimed solely at her in that moment. Sam stared back at her his mouth open slightly but not able to even create any words in response to her deal. A deal…if you could even call it that. She was offering him; he didn’t even know what to call it.
She was offering his brother back to him alive…in exchange for his soul in a month…9 days…23 hours…and 59 minutes…
It was insane complete and utter suicide and more then likely it was completely unheard of. That wasn’t a deal that was only rubbing salt in his wounds.
“No…” Sam whispered stepping away from her before stopping as he tried to come to terms with what he was doing. But he couldn’t make the deal…he couldn’t.
“No deal,” he whispered his voice trembled slightly in pain.

A small smile curled the Demon's lips as Sam confirmed what she already fully knew with regards to his mother and she cocked her head to the side slightly. “Hurts like a bitch doesn't it Sam....Sammy?” she cooed gently, rocking slightly on the spot as she stared back at him. “Knowing that one of my kind destroyed your life once and knowing full well I can do it all over again in an instant....” she added with an all too malicious tone to her voice.
As Sam shoved her backwards, the disgust ever evident in his eyes, the Demon allowed a small smirk to cross her lips and she laughed soft, yet deep within her chest “Why am I to get the hell off of you Sam?” she mused quietly “You enjoyed it....you relished it...if only for a mere second....” she grinned.
Watching as Sam seemed to mull over the deal she had thrown his way, the Demon could all but see the wheels of his mind turning behind his eyes and she relished in the thought that what she had offered him was nothing shy of suicide. She had offered him a pittance compared to all the rest and yet she knew that somewhere, deep down, he will have considered it, if only for a second.
Her eyes widened considerably as Sam shot her deal down and she watched rather amused as he stepped away from her and refused it again, slightly more firmly the second go around and she stepped away from the crossroads sign slowly. “Then your brother remains in limbo and you are alone in the world Sam.” she said plainly, staring back at Sam with an unamused smile upon her face.
“You knew what was to happen to Jess and you let it happen...you let her die. What I just offered you would have bought your brother back from the dead and given you time to make it all right, all better and you rejected it.....” her voice was filled with nothing but malice as she hissed the words at Sam and she stepped up directly to face him. “You couldn't save her....the girl you were meant to have loved and you just condemned your brother to an eternity in nothingness....bravo to you Sammy....” she whispered spitefully.
Turning away from Sam and beginning to make her way back down the road that led away from Sam, the Demon turned only briefly and smiled back at him. “Be sure to salt and burn his filthy corpse won't you?” she added with a small laugh.

Sam stared frozen by the demon’s words as she all but accepted the fact that he had turned down the deal. He had thought that maybe she would have fought him on it since there seemed to be so many who wanted his soul and so many goings on in hell that would have proven a benefit for her had she had the contract for his soul. But instead she had simply said no and was going to go on her way.
Sam’s eyes widened considerably as the demon brought up Jessica. He felt a familiar pain and suffocating anxiety creep through his system, it was a feeling he had grown used to feeling since the night Jessica had been torn from him.
“No…” Sam whispered his voice truly broken by the total feeling of being blind sided as the demon dared to throw Jessica into the mix.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about! I didn’t…I couldn’t…” he had no words; he had nothing any more he was truly and utterly shattered and he hated himself for the tears that streamed down his face but he couldn’t stop them as his entire body shook with grief at the reality that he was as alone as he had ever been in his entire life and he was damned to live the rest of his life this way…alone.
Sam stared desperately back at the demon as she walked away.
“Wait!” he called after her taking a step towards her but stopping as he bit his lip trying to think clearly but having no luck what so ever there were just too many things tearing at him at the moment.
“You’ll bring Dean back just the way he was before he was killed…you’ll bring him back and I get one month, 9 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes?” Sam asked just making sure that he had heard correctly even though he knew he had.
“If I accept the deal…you don’t make one with him…if he comes to you to try and save me you don’t deal with him…” Sam said his eyes staring down at the covered hole in the center of the road that he had made to start this entire mess to begin with.
