Name: Azrael
It is also spelled Izrail, Azrin, Izrael, Azriel, Azrail, Ezraeil, Azraille, Azryel, or Ozryel. Chambers English dictionary uses the spelling Azrael. The name literally means Whom God Helps.
Azrael is the name of the Archangel of Death in some extrabiblical traditions. He is also the angel of death in Islamic theology. It is an English form of the Arabic name Azra'il or Azra'eil, the name traditionally attributed to the angel of death in Islam and Sikhism, as well as some Hebrew lore. The Qur'an never uses this name, referring instead to Malak al-Maut (which translates directly as angel of death).
Age: What does it matter? You won't remember in a moment.
Appearence: (picture)
Hometown: Heaven
Family: See the angels; fallen and otherwise
Special Abilities: Well killing....or rather gathering souls. Many humans can kill so I suppose it isn't really a special skill.
Weapons of Choice: ....not a scythe. Stupid pop-culture.
Status: (demon hunter, witch, demon, etc) Arch-Angel
History:
Although some sources have speculated about a connection between Azrael and the human priest Ezra, he is generally depicted as an archangel whose history long predates this figure. Rather than merely representing death personified, Azrael is usually described in Islamic sources as subordinate to the will of God "with the most profound reverence." In Jewish mysticism he is identified as the embodiment of evil, not necessarily or specifically evil itself. Depending on the outlook and precepts of various religions in which he is a figure, Azrael may be portrayed as residing in the Third Heaven.
In one of his forms, he has four faces and four thousand wings, and his whole body consists of eyes and tongues, the number of which corresponds to the number of people inhabiting the Earth. Riffian (Berber) men of Morocco had the custom of shaving the head but leaving a single lock of hair on either the crown, left, or right side of the head, so that the angel Azrael is able "...to pull them up to heaven of the Last Day.
Azrael was created at the beginning with some of the more well known angels like Michael, Samael, Gabriel and Raphael. Shortly after Adam was created Azrael was passed on the full position as the Angel of Death when Samael left. Sam it seems had fallen in love with Lilith, the first woman, and had been unable to kill her when she displeased Adam (which had caused God to order her execution).
Though his brother is now living on Earth with the humans, Azrael is still close to Samael. Sam is the unofficial second in command to Azrael since he gave up being the actual angel of death.
Do not let Azrael's innocent appearance fool you. He is still the angel of death. While he may look like a sweet little boy that just needs a hug...well don't hug him. It would be easier to just warn you away. He chooses the appearance of a young boy to avoid unwanted 'feelings' with humans. His look of innocence makes it easier to calm his charges and gain their trust to bring them to let go and enter the light.
His life is a lonely one. He will be the last to die, recording and erasing constantly in a large book the names of men at birth and death, respectively.
