"I can't do that."
Morgan's eyebrows stiched in confusion in regards to Cat's reply. He had not bet on a defensive stance from his friend...especially in regards to the man who had stabbed her through the hand.
"Cat..."
"There's no way I could. Dimitrie's my maker, he's basically my father in the vampire world. I couldn't kill him, not after everything we've been through. He's the only family I had for centuries."
Morgan closed his eyes for a moment taking a breath and trying as best as he could not to get extremley frusturated with Catherine. He knews this though; had seen it before. Women who were attached entirely too deep to those who caused them harm. Vampire or not Catherine was more human then she thought.
"Catherine..."
It was rare Morgan used Cat's name; hell he was rather certain he had never used it but he needed her to know how serious he was...how grave the matter was and how much she needed to listen to him.
"I know I'm not well versed in the ways of...your kind," Morgan began keeping his voice down as not to peak anyones attention in regards to their conversation.
"This guy...your maker. He's a monster. Maker or not; vampire or not anything....human or other who hurts somebody else to get what they want, to prove a point or to just get out anger isn't worth protecting. He hurt you Cat and your vocie gives you away that this isn;t the first time," Morgan ran his hands through his hair as he expelled a breath.
"He's a monster Cat and he doesn't deserve your protection and your sympathy. Please tell me you're listening to me Cat..."

Catherine waited for the other shoe to drop. She suspected she knew that Morgan would say she was crazy, and it was wrong, and-.
"Catherine..."
Uh oh, here it came. Catherine flicked her eyes up to look at Morgan and then turned them immediately back to the table. She knew he wasn't going to say she was 100% correct, there was no way she could hurt her maker.
"I know I'm not well versed in the ways of...your kind,"
No, he wasn't. And he didn't understand the maker/child connection. And Catherine wasn't about to argue that just yet.
"This guy...your maker. He's a monster. Maker or not; vampire or not anything....human or other who hurts somebody else to get what they want, to prove a point or to just get out anger isn't worth protecting. He hurt you Cat and your vocie gives you away that this isn;t the first time,"
"No, it's not the first time." Catherine told the table top. And as long as Dimitrie was alive, it wouldn't be the last.
"He's a monster Cat and he doesn't deserve your protection and your sympathy. Please tell me you're listening to me Cat..."
"I'm listening to you Morgan, and I know I sound like a damned Lifetime movie, but I just can't. I can't. Sometimes he has to be mean to me. When he first turned me, I liked to kill for fun. If he hadn't got me under control, I would have killed thousands. If it weren't for makers like him, you'd have hundreds of bodies to clean up."
Catherine looked up Morgan, shaking her head.
"Morgan, I can't. I'm sorry. I just couldn't."

"No, it's not the first time."
Morgan allowed his head to rest in his hands as Cat's words hung in the silence which had fallen over the table. This vampire; her maker apprently made a habit of using violence to get what he wanted and had been doing so for God only knew how long. And perhaps he was being closed minded but Morgan could not think of a single thing that would make it ok. It was like saying that a parent who beat the hell out of their child to keep them in line was doing so for the betterment of the kid. This was no difference...save for the lethal side effect of it all.
"I'm listening to you Morgan, and I know I sound like a damned Lifetime movie, but I just can't. I can't. Sometimes he has to be mean to me. When he first turned me, I liked to kill for fun. If he hadn't got me under control, I would have killed thousands. If it ung in the silence aweren't for makers like him, you'd have hundreds of bodies to clean up."
Closing his eyes and allowing his head to continue to sit in his hands Morgan focused on breathing since that was the only grasp at calm that he ahd going for him. He was not one to feel defeated but Morgan was beginning to feel as if this was beyond him in some sort of way. Perhaps in the sort of way that he still had a heart beat.
"I've heard this story a hundred times over Cat....same story different woman...apprently now it spans to the undead...no matter the person or the type apprently it doesn;t make it right. You're not who you used to be...if you were I would have been dead a good long time ago and I refuse to believe it is because of this douche bag," Morgan attempted to explain while keeping the bitterness out of his voice. Just the same his hands clenched his own hair within his fingers every few moments.
"Morgan, I can't. I'm sorry. I just couldn't."
"Do you hear yourself Cat?! Do you?! Because I refuse to believe you actually are ok with the shit you are saying," Morgan said finally snapping as his hands hit the table and his eyes narrowed. Technically he couldn;t see much of anything but just the same you could tell through his eyes sight or no sight when he was angry.
Pulling in a breath and chewing on the side of his lip Morgan did his best to psuh his anger away. He wasn;t mad at Cat...not entirely...he was mad at her for allowing this to continue...to simply let it happen. That was where the injustice was.
"I am gonna ask you one thing...and if you can answer me truthfully I'll let it go..." Morgan explained his voice low and his eyes focused downward.
"Stan is a good man, one who cares for you and your family adores you to no end...hell I even care about you no matter how crazy you make me...are you a better person because of us? Or because of the monster who made you lifetimes ago?"

Cat hung her head and stared at the table. She wished it was half as interesting as the look she was giving it.
"I've heard this story a hundred times over Cat....same story different woman...apprently now it spans to the undead...no matter the person or the type apprently it doesn;t make it right. You're not who you used to be...if you were I would have been dead a good long time ago and I refuse to believe it is because of this douche bag,"
Cat raised her eyes, but didn't speak. Truthfully, she had only given up killing people because Dimitrie's punishments had gotten annoying and she was tired of being burned with silver. So in some ways, his punishments had worked, but not because of him being him.
"Do you hear yourself Cat?! Do you?! Because I refuse to believe you actually are ok with the shit you are saying,"
Cat jumped. She'd never actually seen Morgan angry before. Glancing up, she studied him. Humans were so intriguing when they were angry. Sometimes she thought it was like a kitten trying to take on a mother cat. Humans thought they could be so fierce, but really a vampire could take them out in one swoop.
"I am gonna ask you one thing...and if you can answer me truthfully I'll let it go..."
Cat nodded, then remembered that Morgan couldn't see it.
"Yes?"
"Stan is a good man, one who cares for you and your family adores you to no end...hell I even care about you no matter how crazy you make me...are you a better person because of us? Or because of the monster who made you lifetimes ago?"
"I make you crazy?" Cat laughed in spite of the situation. Deciding that Morgan probably wasn't in the mood, Cat sighed.
"Look, Morgan, I'll tell you what happened. I used to live with Dimitrie all the time. He took me away from Stan years ago and took me with him. He ran out of money a few years ago, and got this brilliant plan to kidnap another vampire for ransom. I had to take care of the man, and when his people found out, they kidnapped me. They were going to kill me, but Stan came in time."
Catherine met Morgan's eyes, giving him a faint smile even though her own eyes held their seriousness.
"It was then that I realized that Dimitrie didn't care about me. He was fine with my death. Stan was the one who valued my life. And from then on I forgot about Dimitrie and lived for those who did care about me. So yes, I guess I am the person you, Stan and my siblings make me."

It sounded weird but Morgan was positive he could feel Cat looking at him; it really wasn't the smartest thing in the world to to holler at a vampire but Morgan was rather certain that Cat was more of a fan of her current outfit then should would have been of killing him.
Morgan sat in silence listening to Catherine's story as she explained all of the details of her maker and how he seemed to make a living out of not caring about her well being. He chewed the side of his thumb nail as she continued on.
"It was then that I realized that Dimitrie didn't care about me. He was fine with my death. Stan was the one who valued my life. And from then on I forgot about Dimitrie and lived for those who did care about me. So yes, I guess I am the person you, Stan and my siblings make me."
"Then why stop now? Forget about him Kit...forget about the guy who stabs you through the hand...and pins you to trees and focus more on the stunningly handosme blind guys who let you hang out with them," Morgan explained smiling slgihtly in an attempt to lighten the air.
He didn't enjoy anger; his own included. But he also didn't enjoy his friends being hurt; whether they were undead or not. He knew there wasn't much he could do now all things considered there was very little he could do against a vampire who was hell bent on violence but there were other things he could do. Since losing his sight Morgan Caine had founds way to be useful without his eyes if the situtation called for it.
Reaching out to find her hands Morgan grasped them and squeezed them gently. There was silence for several moments and Morgan could only hope that maybe just maybe his words would sink in...if only a little bit.
"And yes you do make me crazy...on a daily bases."

"Then why stop now? Forget about him Kit...forget about the guy who stabs you through the hand...and pins you to trees and focus more on the stunningly handosme blind guys who let you hang out with them,"
Cat chuckled, shaking her head at Morgan. She enjoyed his sense of humor. He was always good for making her laugh, even in the oddest of situations like this one.
"Morgan, it's not like I want to keep him in my life. Well...." That wasn't entirely true. She did want Dimitrie in her life, just not being abusive and controlling.
"I do want him in my life. I just want him to stop hitting me and demanding I do his bidding-oh, and to stop threatening Stan."
All reasonable requests, at least in the eyes of a sane vampire.
Catherine watched Morgan's hands take hers and returned the squeeze he placed on them. She met his eyes, watching him tenderly for a long moment.
"And yes you do make me crazy...on a daily bases."
"Well then, my work here is done." Cat laughed, shrugging. "I do appreciate your concern, Morgan. You're such a good friend."

Morgan smiled lightly as Cat's laugh reached his ears. It was a nice sound and in general meant he wasn't going to die any time soon which was also a nice thing to take note of. He didn't know the difference but he would wager a guess he would look better alive then dead.
"Morgan, it's not like I want to keep him in my life. Well...."
Morgan frowned slightly..."wells" were never a good thing.
"I do want him in my life. I just want him to stop hitting me and demanding I do his bidding-oh, and to stop threatening Stan."
Morgan wasn't entirely comfortable idea that Cat wanted this crazy vampire around but he wasn't her father and he was rather certain he was quickly nearing the line which would separate friend from annoying and he didn't really want to toe that line with Cat.
"So you want him to stop being what he is?...Reasonable enough," Morgan muttered against his better judgment. But he was rather certain he would be forgiven; he was after all simply being human. He knew that Cat had enough cards on her side to protect her if she needed it and as much as he would have liked to think of himself as an active part in that group but he knew that when it came to fights among vampires he had no place.
"Well then, my work here is done."
"Lies," Morgan replied with a smile.
"I do appreciate your concern, Morgan. You're such a good friend."
"I was going more for annoying tag along but I'll take good friend," Morgan continued as he released Cat's hands. He cared for her more so then he though he ever would when he first came across the vampire in the dark alley who had literally saved his life. Life had surely changed since then. Morgan allowed his fingertips to travel along the edge of the table until they bumped slightly into the coffee Catherine had offered up to him.
Grasping the cup Morgan took a sip and grimaced as he set it down on the table.
"If you could taste that you would know how gross it is," Morgan said pushing the cup away with a small laugh.

"So you want him to stop being what he is?...Reasonable enough,"
Cat sighed. She knew it was a long shot. Dimitrie had been himself for centuries. Getting him to change now would be utterly unheard of. But she could dream, at least slightly.
"Yeah, somehow I think you and Stan would have the same opinion on that subject." Catherine sighed heavily, running her fingers idly through her long straight hair. "I don't think he'd buy this plan either."
"Lies,"
"Vamps aren't known for their honesty, sweetie." Catherine shrugged, smiling sweetly. She glanced out the window once more, feeling the uneasy feeling she'd felt before.
"I feel so weird." She looked at the window again and then back to Morgan. "I'm sure it's nothing though."
Or at least she hoped. Something simple would do he well.
"And by the way, I can't come up with an annoying tag for you." Cat watched him pick up the cup, taking a drink.
"If you could taste that you would know how gross it is,"
"Oh no, don't tell me that. It smells so good. It smells like it should be sweet, like white sugar." Catherine remembered a time when white sugar was a rarity, a finer thing. Humans didn't know about that now. Not that she had ever gone without.
"Coffee always smells so good, but I can't remember the taste of it."

"Vamps aren't known for their honesty, sweetie."
"Well now that's disappointing," Morgan explained with a small pout.
"I have to be the hardest you've worked for a snack then," Morgan continued on with a smirk as he left hand traced along the table until it came across the edge. The action really wasn't needed he just liked to be able to "see" where certain things were.
"I feel so weird. I'm sure it's nothing though."
"I'm no pro or anything but maybe just maybe it has something to do with the fact that your ex vampire boyfriend stabbed you through the hand?....Just taking a lucky guess there."
He wasn't a pro as far as vampire emotions went but even knowing Cat for as short a time as he had he had learned enough that they surprisingly felt a lot of human emotions whether they wanted to admit to it or not.
"Oh no, don't tell me that. It smells so good. It smells like it should be sweet, like white sugar...Coffee always smells so good, but I can't remember the taste of it."
"Now see that is the difference what I drink is coffee...what you pretend to drink is brown sugar water," Morgan explained with a smirk.
"How has life at the club been treating you?" Morgan had yet to venture to Cat's club but he figured he would have to make the trip one of these days if only to check out her clientele. He had long since figured out that women seemed to go for the blind guy and Morgan was not complaining in the least.

"I have to be the hardest you've worked for a snack then,"
"Please. If I wanted to bite you, I would have done it six months ago last Tuesday." Catherine smirked, running her fingers through her hair. Honestly, she'd thought of feeding from Morgan for about a month when they'd first met, and then she'd separated food from friend and it hadn't crossed her mind since.
"I'm no pro or anything but maybe just maybe it has something to do with the fact that your ex vampire boyfriend stabbed you through the hand?....Just taking a lucky guess there."
"Ex boyfriend? Oh by all means no." Cat wrinkled her nose and shook her head. "Dimitrie and I never connected like that. I can't imagine thinking of him the way I think of Stan."
Well, that was a bit like comparing apples to oranges, but that statement was a bit over done for Cat's liking.
"Now see that is the difference what I drink is coffee...what you pretend to drink is brown sugar water,"
"And whipped cream. Whatever that tastes like, but it smells divine."
Cat's other preference was for the scent of sugar. She preferred it in things like cotton candy. She wondered what foods she would have eaten if she was human.
"How has life at the club been treating you?"
"Good." Catherine nodded enthusiastically. "Very good. Fortunately for me, people still like loud noise, booze and getting too close to each other in enclosed spaces, so they're more than happy to give me their money for all three of those.....comforts."
Truthfully, Cat didn't really see the appeal. Alcohol smelled vile to her, the noise was annoying and being able to sweat on another being and having theirs on you sounded appalling. But if humans paid, she would provide.
"You should come by. I'll buy you a drink."

"Please. If I wanted to bite you, I would have done it six months ago last Tuesday."
"Oh well now look at you keeping track of our anniversary," Morgan chided with a slight smile. It was odd to put a number to the time though as it felt as if he had known Cat for ages now and known that pretty much the world as he had known it was anything but.
Honestly he had thought of figuring out how exactly one killed vampires when they'd first met and then he had seen her as a friend and any thoughts of vampire slaying had gone out the window. Not that he had much of a chance of taking on a vampire but that was hardly the point.
"Ex boyfriend? Oh by all means no. Dimitrie and I never connected like that. I can't imagine thinking of him the way I think of Stan."
"How about the way he thinks of you?" Morgan asked his finger drumming lightly against the table.
"Good. Very good. Fortunately for me, people still like loud noise, booze and getting too close to each other in enclosed spaces, so they're more than happy to give me their money for all three of those.....comforts."
"It's the American dream or well daydream these days. I think as long as people have debt, cheating partners and an obscene amount of lust you'll never go out of business Cat."
The coffee shop had grown a bit silent and Morgan could only guess that as they had visited it had emptied out a bit. He had been focused on the conversation and not on his own surroundings. Not that it entirely mattered but it bug him ever so slightly to not know his surroundings. Scrunching his eyebrows ever so slightly Morgan focused for several moments attempting to get a firm tally on the inhabitants of the shop.
"You should come by. I'll buy you a drink."
"I'll have to take you up on that; women love a blind guy. They think we don;t care about looks...little do most know there are other ways to tell how a woman looks then just by looking at them," Morgan explained with a sly grin.

"Oh well now look at you keeping track of our anniversary,"
"Of course, I never forget the important events." Catherine had always enjoyed the time she spent with Morgan-and she was not a human loving kind of vampire. There was something about Morgan and appealed to her-and not in a bedtime snack kind of way.
"How about the way he thinks of you?" Catherine considered this. Truthfully, she wasn't really sure. She didn't think Dimitrie had ever had romantic interest in her, but if he had, well, Cat shuddered at the thought.
"I don't know. And let's not ask, K?"
"It's the American dream or well daydream these days. I think as long as people have debt, cheating partners and an obscene amount of lust you'll never go out of business Cat."
"Well then I'm in luck, because those have been in fashion since I was human."
Catherine didn't complain about the human desire to get drunk and have sex. That had always been flowing around out there. Now she was just profiting from it.
"I'll have to take you up on that; women love a blind guy. They think we don;t care about looks...little do most know there are other ways to tell how a woman looks then just by looking at them,"
Catherine laughed. She enjoyed how Morgan took his vision issues. She'd never thought of the aspect of seeing someone without looking at them.
"So in that case, what do I look like?"

Dimitrie might have had a blood lust for violence but his self control and patience were almost at a zen level. He was content with waiting as long as it took for the pair to separate from one another. In the past hour he'd left briefly and fed on a drunken man who'd taken it upon himself to harass a young woman walking home.
Chivalry is not dead, only undead, he amused himself with his own joke. He was once again in the darkened doorway across the street watching his protege and her company. The conversation had moved from him on to trivial matters, not that he cared. As soon as they were done talking and separated Dimitrie would be having his own conversation with the blind human.
The small coffee shop was slowly filing out by ones and twos as couples and what he guessed to be college students left for the night. Soon enough the man would grow tired and Catherine would go back to her... whatever the Davis man was to her. Dimitrie fought the urge to spit out the foul taste in his mouth that came from thinking of the man that had stolen his Catherine. He was more interested in the blind man at the moment anyway and he was already planning how their meeting would go.

Morgan allowed several moments to pass by in silence until he was relatively comfortable with his surroundings and who he had found himself surrounded by inside the coffee shop. Though truth be told with Cat around he hardly had a thing to worry about considering the fact that she could rip out anyone’s throat who looked at them the wrong way. Running his fingers lightly over the face of his watch he was able to deduce the lack of patronage. It was just about closing time for the café; time seemed to fly by when Cat was around that was something else he had noticed long ago. It either flew by or he didn’t waste much time focused on it. Either explanation worked.
Morgan allowed a smile to crawl across his face in response to Catherine’s laugh.
"So in that case, what do I look like?"
Morgan would be the first to admit he loved this game; depending on how he wanted an interaction to go was usually in direct correlation which how honest he was going to be. Since Cat was a friend and also a deadly weapon he would be extra nice.
“Since I’ve known you you spend pretty much every other moment adjusting your appearance so right off the bat we can deduce your well dressed and extremely well maintained…could mean you’re a bit high maintenance but small price to pay no doubt. The sounds of your walk suggests you either have long legs or high heels…sometimes both,” Morgan continued on his fingers continuing to drum ever so slightly as he focused on the items he had picked up on about Cat since they first met.
“The easiest way to see you though without ever having to see you is all about how others talk to you. Waiters stumble over your order, sales ladies try to get you to buy everything under the sun and at times you can even pick up on the quick intake of air if you take somebody off guard…usually a man,” Morgan finished up.
“So in the long run you’re strong and gorgeous and your voice had a nice ring to it,” Morgan concluded with a smirk.
“But I think even with your stunning good looks and my charm the staff will still kick us out in about 10 minutes time,” Morgan explained pushing the coffee Cat had offered him a bit further away from him.

Catherine still felt an uneasy tug yanking at her. She felt like something was lurking just out of sight and she gave a quick scan of the coffee shop just to make sure she wasn't missing a poisonous snake sitting under the table. But still, there was nothing around she could call out.
“Since I’ve known you you spend pretty much every other moment adjusting your appearance so right off the bat we can deduce your well dressed and extremely well maintained…could mean you’re a bit high maintenance but small price to pay no doubt. The sounds of your walk suggests you either have long legs or high heels…sometimes both,”
"High maintenance?" Cat reacted momentarily to the statement, and then shrugged her shoulders. She imagined it was pretty true.
"All right, I guess that's a fair statement."
“The easiest way to see you though without ever having to see you is all about how others talk to you. Waiters stumble over your order, sales ladies try to get you to buy everything under the sun and at times you can even pick up on the quick intake of air if you take somebody off guard…usually a man,”
Catherine's natural arrogance kicked in as a smirk began to play faintly across her lips. It was nice to be complimented, but Morgan's compliments were touching. It was nice that a friend cold come up with such compliments for a girl. Cat liked it.
"Darling, you're too sweet." Catherine reached across the table and squeezed his hand.
“But I think even with your stunning good looks and my charm the staff will still kick us out in about 10 minutes time,
"Fair enough." Catherine took another deep inhale of the scent of coffee. "Guess I'll just have to go home and light a candle then. Do you want a ride home? I don't want you out in the dark by yourself."
Cat didn't want to admit that her unease was making her feel a little off tonight, or else she wouldn't have made the statement sound so insistent. But with the recent addition of Dimitrie into her life, she trusted nothing.
