Melinda cringed as Rick started to yell at her freaking out even worse now that the figure was gone. Was it so hard to ask that the spirits she actually knew NOT to freak out on her? Apparently so.
She regained her normal composure quickly however when Rick reminded her where exactly she was. She narrowed her eyes slightly at him before shaking her head and walking over to the counter. "Um, excuse me?" she said, trying to gain the nurses' attention.
"Could you tell me the status of Professor Rick Payne? Could you go check on him. I really just have a bad feeling and I just don't think I'll be able to calm down till I know he's," she paused, well okay or better wasn't quiet right....,"alive?"

The nurse looked up from her station as the young lady once more walked up to her and asked her about her friend. She had only recently checked to make sure how the patient was doing but she figured that the young lady was worried so she could oblige her once more.
“I’ll call up and check on him ma’am,” she said with a smile as she dialed up the number for the OR to check on the status of the patient. Things had apparently gone poorly during the surgery but it was almost done and for the moment he was fine; not stable but fine. The nurse looked back up at the young lady and gave her a re-assuring smile as she hung up the phone.
“He is still in surgery ma’am the doctor will be down to speak to you as soon as they are done,” there wasn’t much else she could tell her till the doctor arrived.

Rick glared at the nurse from across the waiting room as the woman got on the phone after Melinda had asked her if he was still alive.
"Take your time," Rick muttered as he watched her listen intently to whoever was on the other side.
He quickly grew impatient waiting for the woman to answer Melinda and began to pace the small area he was in and then he progressed to staring at the people in the room. He found it actually rather amusing that he could all but stand directly in front of someone and reach out and just about touch them and they wouldn't have the faintest idea.
He sat directly next to a rather large man and stared at him intently for the moment amusing himself while Melinda waited.

When the nurse came back from her phone call and told her the current status she couldn't help but relax the smallest bit. "Thank you so much," she said, before turning and looking at the room, letting out a small breathe she had been holding.
Melinda froze however when she saw Rick messing with one of the people waiting. She narrowed her eyes and scrunched her nose slightly, making a face before turning to the nurse. "If the Doctor comes down in the next five minutes I'll be in the restroom. I just need to freshen up real fast if that's alright."
She quickly turned around and headed for the hallway she'd been in when she and Payne had been bickering and gave him a look before jerking her head slightly for the hallway. Hoping that he followed she headed for the women's restroom and was relieved to find it empty. She hadn't really needed to go but she did need not to look crazy talking to a spirit!

Rick’s attention was taken off of the large man when he heard the sound of Melinda’s shoes moving away from the nurse’s desk his attention immediately focused back on her. He really hoped he wasn’t dead…really really hoped.
Rick scurried from the chair and followed after Melinda into the restroom.
“A little bathroom rendezvous? Didn’t think that was your style Melinda,” Rick commented with a smirk once the door was closed behind them.
“Hm so this is what they look like,” Rick said his eyes scanning the women’s restroom.
“Interesting,” he said before shifting on to the counter his eyes finding Melinda’s as his smile faded.
“So?” Rick asked as he waited to hear what the nurse had said.

The look Melinda sent him for his smirking comment was probably very close to a look that could kill the already deceased. "Not funny," she said, shaking her head and crossing her arms, "I really don't think that is funny."
She watched for a moment as he took in his surroundings and couldn't help but roll her eyes and fight the urge to tap her foot before his attention shifted back towards her and the situation.
"The nurse said that you're still in surgery and that the doctor is going to come down to speak to me in a few minutes. Now you can either wait somewhere in the hallway or else you can wait with me for him to come."
Melinda took a deep breathe and looked at Rick. She let out a sigh, "I'm sorry for being so snippy. It just really doesn't help that the friend I'm worried about not making it out of surgery is standing in front of me in spirit form and only I can see him." A small smile twitched at the corners of her mouth however. "Not to mention him being a crazy."

“I thought it was funny,” Rick offered up with a small shrug as he looked back at Melinda. He listened to Melinda explain what the nurse had said and he didn’t know what he wanted to do or what was worse…waiting or hearing it first hand.
A lock of mock hurt immediately clouded Rick’s face as Melinda dubbed him as “crazy.”
“What? I’ll have you know I haven’t even reached the crazy stage of this production…I would like to think I’m still handling this whole spirit thing rather well…being as though oh I’m a spirit!” Rick snapped at Melinda his face switching from the mock look to a very real look of worry. It never really seemed true to him till he found himself saying it and then it seemed all too real.
Rick shivered slightly and he looked around the room thinking it odd that among all the other things he could feel would be cold right about now but it had suddenly become very cold. He shifted uncomfortably on the counter for a moment his entire body feeling as though it was being stabbed with pins. Again of course he wasn’t a doctor but he was willing to guess this wasn’t good.
“Mel…is it usually below freezing in here?” Rick asked shifting back down to the floor as he stood against the counter his eyes locking back on to Melinda as he flinched slightly but tried to ignore the small stabbing sensations.
His eyes widened slightly as near the entrance of the room which had seconds ago been empty there stood a woman dressed completely in black from head to toe who stood there for a moment and merely stared back at him. He wanted to believe that she was just a person who had come into the room but the way she looked at him pierced right through him and caused his entire body to shudder.
“Mel…” Rick whispered his voice panicked as he tried to back away slightly as the “woman” took a step forward but there was nowhere for him to go since he was already backed up against the sink counter.

Water poured out of the tap as Melinda began to wash her hands. She'd forgotten all about the dried blood from trying to keep pressure on Rick's wound since she'd gotten to the hospital. She probably looked a mess. Scrubbing she worked on her hands as her friend continued to 'freak out'.
“Mel…is it usually below freezing in here?”
"No it's normally a bit above freezing," she said, rolling her eyes a bit and turning off the water. She shook her hands sharply trying to get as much water off as she could and hit the hand dryer on before moving her hands underneath the heated air.
"Mel."
"What?!" she said, turning to look at him and jumped, hand moving to over her heart. "OH!" The dark figure in the doorway continued to look anything but friendly as she tried to calm down a bit from the apparent shock of seeing another ghost....spirit.....thing.
She watched as it took a step forward and felt herself want to step away. "Who are you?" she said, voice shaking slightly.

Rick’s breath seemed to freeze in his chest as the temperature in the room continued to plummet. The woman’s eyes never left his and Rick attempted another step backwards only to be met with the wall behind him and nowhere else to go. The fact that he was as good as stuck even while in the form of a “spirit” or whatever the hell he was was in no way helpful.
He was about to ask if Melinda was able to see their newest guest when Melinda’s cry of surprise sounded though the washroom. It wasn’t the fact that Melinda could see the woman which caused Rick the most trouble it was that the woman could see him which in his body and spirits current state was not a good thing.
“This is of no concern to you…” A voice, one Rick was willing to bet money on was the woman’s as it sounded through the room. The woman’s eyes turning for a moment briefly towards Melinda before snapping back on to Rick.
Rick pushed himself closer against the wall in response to the woman’s words of warning she had sent Melinda’s way.
“Melinda…” Rick managed to call out his voice barely above a whisper as the woman took several strides till she was literally standing directly in front of him. A pressure on his chest growing ten fold with every moment the woman stood in such proximity to him.
“Look…if I um happened to fail you…or offend you…or cut you off in traffic at some point in time I’m really sorry about that,” Rick explained doing his best to apologize…for what he had no idea but that wasn’t the point.
His eyes couldn’t turn away from hers though and they continue to blaze back into him almost as if she was staring into his very soul. He knew Melinda was still there pr at least he could hope she was but he couldn’t even look at her if he wanted to. Then without a word or warning of any sort the woman’s hand shot out resting upon the side of his head and pain exploded through him the very next instant forcing a scream from his lips as he tumbled to his knees.

No concern to her? Okay a creepy thing stalking her friend in the women's bathroom was definitely a concern of hers. Melinda watched as the figure came closer to Rick.
“Melinda…” Rick managed to call out his voice barely above a whisper as the woman took several strides till she was standing directly in front of him. Melinda stared at the two, confused. Who was this other spirit. It didn't seem interested in talking to her and she had a feeling this was bad. Well worse than the earlier situation at least.
She heard Rick start to babble to the spirit, “Look…if I um happened to fail you…or offend you…or cut you off in traffic at some point in time I’m really sorry about that.”
Next thing she knew Rick was screaming.
"Stop it! STOP IT!" she yelled as she took a few steps forward, fists clenched. "Leave him alone!" Melinda was furious and slightly frightened. Who did this thing think it was hurting her friend?
